Dear Parishioners,
Queridos feligreses,
As you read this message, I will be in the Naval Base
in Newport, Rhode Island for two weeks attending the
direct commission officer’s course. Since May of
2014, I was commissioned as a U.S. Navy Officer
(working as a Reserve Chaplain). In the Military
Chaplaincy Corps, there is only an 8% Catholic priest
presence. As a reserve Chaplain, I help in a very limited capacity in assisting those who work full time in
the Military Chaplaincy, especially the Catholic priest.
Once again, I thank all the priests (Fr. Ben, Fr. Jamie,
and Fr. Emmanuel) our deacons, parish staff and our
parishioners for allowing me to serve as a reserve
Chaplain. Let us pray for all those who serve in the
Military here and abroad.
Al leer este mensaje, voy a estar en la Base Naval en
Newport, Rhode Island durante dos semanas asistiendo
al curso de oficiales de comisiones directas. Desde mayo
de 2014, fui comisionado como oficial de la marina de
guerra de Estados Unidos (trabajando como capellán de
la Reserva). En el Cuerpo de Capellanía Militar, sólo hay
una presencia de 8% de sacerdotes católicos. Como
capellán reserva, ayudo en una capacidad muy limitada
para ayudar a los que trabajan a tiempo completo en la
Capellanía Militar, especialmente el sacerdote católico.
Una vez más, agradezco a todos los sacerdotes (Padre
Ben, el Padre Jamie, y el Padre Emmanuel) nuestros
diáconos, personal de la parroquia y los feligreses por
permitirme servir como capellán de reserva. Oremos por
todos los que sirven en las Fuerzas Armadas aquí y en el
extranjero.
I would like to thank Sr. Kathleen Long O.P., and her
staff as well as those who helped in the Candidates
forum yesterday. As you well know, on April 7 there
will be an important election to choose members for
the Waukegan School District School Board. I hope
and pray that we will get out and vote and to choose
candidates that will bring about educational reform for
our children. Please get to know the candidates and
vote following your conscience. As I mentioned in my
last article, it is interesting to get to know about
school choice that advocates for the use of voucher
for the education of our children. This program gives
the parents the option to choose a particular school
that caters to the personal education needs of their
children. Let us pray that we will be guided by the
Holy Spirit in choosing the right candidates to serve
our people, especially in advocating quality education
for our children.
Today is the third Sunday of Lent. I hope and pray
that we continue to be more focused in our discipleship with the Lord as well as attentive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. The season of Lent is a season
of renewal and conversion. It is a journey from the
old self to the new self in Christ Jesus. The season of
Lent is a season to renew our friendship with our Lord
through our Lenten observance of prayer, fasting and
almsgiving.
May our Lenten journey lead us to the joy of Easter.
As St. Paul tells us, only those who share in the sufferings of Christ will certainly share in his glory. Let us
follow the way of the Lord. Let us recognize that the
Lord is always resurrecting us as we carry our crosses
daily.
Me gustaría darle las gracias a la Hermana Kathleen
Long OP, y su personal, así como a los que ayudaron en
el foro de candidatos ayer. Como ustedes ya saben, el 7
de abril, habrá una elección importante para elegir a
miembros para la Junta de Educación del Distrito Escolar
de Waukegan. Espero y rezo para que salgamos y votemos y elijamos a los candidatos que traerán reforma
educativa para nuestros hijos. Por favor, llegue a conocer los candidatos y vote según su conciencia. Como
mencioné en mi último artículo, es interesante conocer
mas acerca de Opción Escolar que aboga por el uso de
vales para la educación de nuestros hijos. Este programa le da la opción a padres a escoger una escuela particular que atiende a las necesidades educativas personales de sus hijos. Oremos para que seamos guiados por
el Espíritu Santo al escoger a las personas correctas para servir nuestro pueblo, sobre todo en la defensa de
una educación de calidad para nuestros hijos.
Hoy es el tercer domingo de Cuaresma. Espero y rezo
que continuemos a estar más enfocados en nuestro discipulado con el Señor, así como mas atentos a la inspiración del Espíritu Santo. La temporada de Cuaresma es
un tiempo de renovación y conversión. Es un viaje de la
vieja naturaleza a la nueva naturaleza en Cristo Jesús.
La temporada de Cuaresma es un tiempo para renovar
nuestra amistad con el Señor a través de nuestra observancia Cuaresmal de oración, ayuno y limosna.
Peace!
Que nuestro camino cuaresmal nos lleve a la alegría de
la Pascua. Como San Pablo nos dice, sólo los que participan en los sufrimientos de Cristo, sin duda compartirán en su gloria. Sigamos el camino del Señor. Reconozcamos que el Señor siempre nos está resucitando mientras llevamos nuestras cruces de cada día.

3er Domingo de Cuaresma
"While he was in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, many began to believe in his name when
they saw the signs he was doing." How we would
love to see those signs! How easy it would be for
us to believe if we too could witness Jesus healing the sick, feeding the multitudes, calming the
storm. It's tempting to imagine that faith was a
simple thing back in those days. We might be inclined to think that we don't have the same benefits as those first believers, and so faith is harder in our day and age. But is it, really?
A mediados de la Cuaresma se nos presenta una
lectura sobre los diez mandamientos. Pero, ¿para
qué escucharlos? ¿Qué nos indica el Señor mediante esta lectura? Todos por lo menos los escuchamos y aprendimos al hacer nuestra primera
Comunión. Sin embargo, no es lo mismo escucharlos o leerlos que ponerlos en práctica en
nuestra vida. Por medio de ellos Dios da a conocer a su pueblo lo que pretende y lo que espera
de ellos y de nosotros, si es que deseamos aceptar una alianza con Dios. Lo que pasó en el Monte Sinaí es para nosotros una luz para comprender lo sucedido con la venida de Jesús. Dios
siempre manifiesta su amor y preocupación por
los seres humanos. Pero al enviar a su Hijo nos
revela, en plenitud, su amor.
In truth, we have an advantage that none of
those people had: two thousand years of Church
history! Two millennia of faithful, prayerful Christians believing in Jesus and spreading the Gospel; the collective witness of the saints--many of
whom have also worked "signs" in Jesus' name;
the effects of the Church on culture and the
world through its schools, its hospitals, its spiritual movements, and religious institutions; the unbroken line of apostolic succession that traces
back to the time of Christ. Just the fact alone
that the Church is still alive and well in spite of all
of its sinful members ought to be miracle enough
for us.
But even with all of this testimony, it's important
to remember that seeing signs and believing in
Jesus are not the same thing. Even those who
witnessed Jesus' miracles had to take the next
step by choosing to accept him as their Lord. Ultimately, all of these convincing details are not
the point. The point is to encounter Jesus on a
personal level. The signs may open the door to
bring us closer to him, but it's up to us to walk
through that door. May we walk so as to come
"to believe the Scripture."
La alianza del Sinaí, la cruz y la Resurrección,
¿qué semejanza tienen? Sencillamente el que
comprendamos el por qué Jesús no tolera que el
templo, casa de su Padre, se convierta en cueva
de ladrones y cambistas. Es decir, ya la humanidad estaba comprometida a responder lo revelado por Dios. ¿Cómo responderemos al llamado de
Dios en este domingo? ¿Qué debe Jesús echar
fuera de mi vida? El participar fielmente en la Eucaristía puede iluminar nuestros corazones y darnos la fuerza necesaria para comprender su mensaje y dar una respuesta positiva. Se trata de hacer obras buenas, para que al vernos, la gente
crea en el mensaje de Jesús. Reflexionemos en
las palabras finales del Evangelio: "Mientras estuvo en Jerusalén para las fiestas de Pascua, muchos creyeron en él, al ver los prodigios que hacía". ¡Quédate, Señor, en mí!

Waukegan Little Fort Lions Club Fundraiser
The Waukegan Little Fort Lions Club is having their annual
STEAK & EGGS fundraiser Sunday, March 15th at the
Waukegan Yacht Club at Harbor Place & Clayton St. in
Waukegan (down by the lake front) from 8:00am to 1:00pm.
Tickets are $12.00. Funds raised go to help sight and hearing impaired individuals, particularly children in our local school system. Further information about the Lions Club can be
obtained by calling Frank Kuzmickus at 847-573-0168.
CATHOLIC WOMEN'S CLUB OF LAKE COUNTY
All women of faith are invited to attend on Thursday, 12 March, 2015 at St Dismas Church in
Waukegan the Catholic Women's Club meeting. We pray the Rosary at 11:30AM followed by
lunch, program and business meeting. This month we are collecting for our veterans such personal
items as shaving cream, dental floss, shampoo and deodorant, new boxer briefs and tees sizes M,
L and XL as well as gently used shirts, sweaters and slacks. Our program is to be a beautiful video,

parish office for a reservation. Baptisms are Saturdays at
9:00 am.
