M ass I ntentions
This year of 2016, our parish theme is
I know well the plans I have in mind
for you, says the LORD, … plans to
give you a future full of hope.
Jer 29:11
All Saints is a tithing parish, giving of our time, talent,
and treasure so as to give glory to God.
On this Independence Day, July 4th, we thank God for the
many freedoms that we enjoy in the United States. This is
freedom to serve God and others, not freedom from God.
May we use our freedoms wisely to worship God and serve
the needs of others. In this upcoming election year, we reflect
upon how we use our freedom in accord with God’s plan for
us, as found in the teachings of Christ and in the natural law
which we can know through our reason. Enjoy this holiday
and the summer season with the many opportunities that it
presents for rest and restoration.
In today’s Gospel, the Lord sends out the 72 disciples to
begin his mission. Jesus uses others to lead people to him.
Vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life as a sister
or brother don’t come out of a vacuum. Families that pray,
sacrifice, love, and share time with each other are places in
which God can call forth these vocations. Is this your family
or your grandchildren’s family? Say Yes to God today.
It’s not too early to think about being a catechist in our
Religious Education program beginning in September. I went
to a Catholic elementary school and a public high school. In
high school I participated in CCD (Confraternity of Christian
Doctrine). One of my CCD teachers was a fine man, a lawyer
whose son, a good student and athlete, was in my grade.
Many years later, this teacher was in a serious bicycling
accident which left him critically disabled. I don’t know why
God allowed this to happen to him. I do know that it caused
me to think about what he had done in trying to teach us and
the fine example of Catholic living which he exemplified in
his family and professional life. Looking back, I don’t see
how this man had the time to teach CCD, but now I see that
he made the time because he considered it important. How
about you? Please contact Samantha Welsh, Director of
Religious Education, if you would like to be considered to
be a catechist in our religious education program. Our young
people need you.

Readings: 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dt 30:10-14; Col 1:15-20; Lk 10:25-37
Next Sunday’s 2nd collection is for the Solidarity Fund for
the Church in Africa. While the Church in Africa is growing,
many still lack access to basic resources and pastoral care.
Many suffer due to high rates of poverty and unemployment,
illiteracy, and poor education. This collection supports
pastoral projects that foster lasting peace and reconciliation
in a continent often marked by division and tension.

Mercy
Freedom gives us the
ability to extend mercy to
others. How will you do
that this week?
Fortnight for Freedom, June 21 - July 4. A closing Mass
will be celebrated by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, with homilist
Bishop David Zubik of Pittsburgh, at 12:10 pm on Mon., July
4, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception in Washington, DC. Veneration of the relics of
Saint Thomas More and Saint John Fisher will be possible
after the Mass.
Families with lots of children are no longer considered
examples of generosity, but rather irresponsibility. [Our culture
says that] children with severe disabilities are not special
angels sent to us by God, but drains on the economy; better
that they were not born. And the elderly are burdens. But if we
succeed in pushing away everyone who is dependent, then
we’re left with ourselves, our ego-centric, sin-rationalizing,
defensive, irritable and vain selves. If we never learn to give
till it hurts, till the painful reality that we’re not the center of
the universe sinks in, we will fail at marriage, at parenthood,
at citizenship, even at simple neighborliness.

TESTIGO DE LA LIBERTAD
BTO. OSCAR ROMERO
USCCB Fact Sheet
A pesar

amistades, reparar olvidos, subsanar malos entendidos,
reduce a “campo, mar o montaña”.
zonas.
