THIS WEEK IN CONFIRMATION & YOUTH MINISTRY
FROM OLL YOUTH MINISTRY:
The Convent is OPEN this Summer: All high school teens ar e welcome to join OLLYM on Thur sday
nights, 7-8:30pm, for food & fellowship. We hope to see you there!
WORK OPPORTUNITIES: OLL YOUTH MINISTRY will be sending 25 young people to this year’s
Steubenville San Diego conference this Summer from July 23-26. We need your help getting there and we’re
willing to work for it! While we will be fundraising in the months to come, each family is responsible for contributing $500 – this works out to be about 2/3 of their total trip cost. We have already had requests from parishioners looking to hire out yard help, set-up/clean-up for events, etc. If you have any opportunities for our
teens, please contact the youth ministry office. ([email protected]; 897-2171 x277) Thanks! If you are interested in learning more about what our teens will experience during this powerful weekend, please visit
www.allforgodcatholic.org and click on the “Steubenville San Diego” tab.
Dear Friends –
Today is Pentecost Sunday, the birthday of the Church. Pentecost
on Greek means “fifty”: it has been 50 days since we celebrated the great
feast of Easter. In order of importance, Easter is our most important feast,
followed by Pentecost and Christmas. Yes, after Easter our most important
feast is Pentecost! Pentecost ends the Easter Season and beginning tomorrow, we go back to Ordinary Time and the wearing of the green. This is
probably the least celebrated of our major feasts. In a personal way, I always treasure Pentecost because on a Pentecost Sunday 15 years ago, I
celebrated my first Mass as a priest. I leave you with this Pentecost Prayer.
“Come Holy Spirit”
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of
your love. Send forth your spirit and they shall be created. And you shall renew
the face of the earth.
Oh God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the
faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy
His consolations, through Christ Our Lord. Amen
Happy Pentecost ,
Father Brian

KID SAFETY - TEEN SAFETY
In 2003 the U S Conference of Catholic Bishops wrote a charter for the protection of children and young people titled “Promise to Protect, Pledge
to Heal”. This charter was written in response to the clergy sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church. We value the trust you put in us in placing
your children in our care. Keeping them safe is of utmost importance to us. We cannot take back the past, but we can put programs and procedures
in place that keep our children and young people as safe as possible. In support of this effort the Archdiocese is providing online training for grades
4-12 students as follows:
Kids Safety (online) 4th – 8th Grade - Completed in Class
Teen Safety (online) 9th - 12th Grade – Completed in Class
We affirm parents as the first educators of their children. 4th – 12th Grade parents and students are encouraged to take the online training. These
courses are accessed by going to www.shieldthevulnerable.org
All teens are encouraged to take the online courses. If you do not have access to a computer, please contact the OLL Parish School of Religion and
we will arrange for you to take the course at the parish.
