Nouns; definite and indefinite articles
Nouns (sustantivos) in Spanish are either masculine or feminine. Things
that are biologically male are masculine; things that are biologically
female are feminine. Nouns that end in -o are almost all masculine. Also
masculine are those nouns that end in the consonants -l, -r, -s, and -z.
Nouns that end in -a are almost all feminine. Also feminine are all nouns
that end in -dad, -tad, -ción, -sión, and -umbre. Nouns that end in -e
can be either masculine or feminine. You just have to learn these on an
individual basis.

B. The plural forms of Spanish nouns are extremely easy to make. If the
noun ends in a vowel (a, e, i, o, u), just add an -s to make the plural. If
the noun ends in a consonant, add -es to make the plural.
You have a friend who likes to tease you. Today, you decide to turn the
tables on him by changing every singular item in his shopping list into
the plural and every plural item into the singular.
