keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may that they also may be consecrated in truth.”

Acts 1:15-17, 20a,20c-26,; 1 Jn 4:11-16; Jn 17:11b-19
Since the sixteenth century, this chapter has been
called the "high priestly prayer" of Jesus.
Today’s passage comes from the middle segment of
this prayer. Jesus speaks as intercessor, with
words addressed directly to the Father and not to the
disciples. Yet the prayer is one of petition, for
immediate and future disciples. Many phrases reminiscent of the Lord's Prayer occur. Although still
in the world, Jesus looks on his earthly ministry as a
thing of the past. Whereas he has up to this
time stated that the disciples could follow him, now
he wishes them to be with him in union with the
Father. This prayer for unity recalls the interconnectedness between the Father and the Son, and
the Son and his disciples. Jesus spoke of it in the metaphor about the vine and the branches that
we read on the 5th Sunday of Easter. Knowing the
difficulties the disciples will face in their mission,
Jesus prays that through his death, the disciples might
remain firm in the truth.

En aquel tiempo, levantando los ojos al cielo, Jesús
verdaderamente santos”.

diste: que todos sean uno como nosotros. Cuando
estaba con ellos, guardaba en tu nombre a los que tú
me diste y cuidaba de ellos, y ninguno se perdió sino
el que debía perderse, cumpliéndose así la Escritura.
Ahora vuelvo a ti y les digo estas cosas mientras estoy
en el mundo para que tengan en sí mismos la plenitud
de mi alegría. Les he dado tu Palabra, y por eso los
odia el mundo porque ellos no son del mundo, como
yo tampoco soy del mundo. No te pido que los saques
del mundo, sino que los guardes del Maligno. Ellos no
son del mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo.
Hazlos santos según la verdad: tu Palabra es la verdad.
Así como tú me enviaste al mundo, así yo también los
he enviado al mundo, y por ellos voy al sacrificio que
me hace santo, para que ellos también sean
Reflexión Dominical
Desde el siglo XVI esta oración se conoce como la “Oración Sacerdotal.” El texto que leemos hoy está en el
centro de ella y encontramos que Jesús habla como intercesor al Padre, no a los discípulos. Cristo, antes de
morir, ofrece en sacrificio su propia vida, y ruega por los suyos y por todos los que se le juntarán viniendo de
todas las naciones, para que sean el nuevo pueblo santo, o sea, consagrado a Dios en la verdad. La palabra
santificar tenía entonces dos usos: el sacerdote se santificaba, o sea, se preparaba para ser digno de ofrecer el
sacrificio, y también hacía santa la víctima al sacrificarla. Jesús cierra el culto del Antiguo Testamento que los
judíos rindieron a Dios en el Templo durante siglos. Ese pueblo era santo, es decir que había sido escogido
para ser entre las naciones el servidor de Dios al que conocía en forma especial. Pero ahora, Jesús va a
derramar sobre todos los que crean en él el Espíritu de la verdad que había sido prometido a Israel, y este
Espíritu los instruirá interiormente. Este es el momento en que Cristo ruega por aquellos que seguirán su
misión. No basta con que se predique a Cristo: es necesario que todos vean en medio de ellos la Iglesia unida,
universal, donde ninguno se sienta extraño. Iglesia guiada por un mismo Espíritu y por la unión visible de sus
miembros.
