20 TIPS PARA SABER SI TU PAREJA ES INFIEL
Por muy segura que estemos en nuestra relación siempre tenemos
miedo a la infidelidad. Hay unos cuantos factores que pueden
decirnos que nuestra pareja nos engaña y que no los percibimos.
Cómo saber que mi pareja me es infiel.
Para que resulte más fácil vamos a presentarte un test de 20
preguntas que tendrás que responder sinceramente. Agarra lápiz
y papel y apunta tus resultados:
1. ¿Has notado algún cambio significativo en su comportamiento?
¿Está más distante pero te dice que no le pasa nada si le preguntas?
2. ¿Se preocupa más por su aspecto
últimamente? ¿Se ha apuntado a un
gimnasio, se ha puesto a dieta, se
compra más ropa o usa productos de
belleza?
3. ¿Se muestra reacio o perezoso a
tener relaciones sexuales?
4. ¿Pasa más tiempo fuera de casa que
antes? ¿Suele tener reuniones, viajes
de trabajo o queda con sus amigos él
solo?
5. ¿Se ducha cuando llega a casa?
6. ¿Has notado movimiento extraños
en vuestras cuentas o gastos que no
puedes justificar?
7. ¿Llaman a tu casa y cuelgan sin decir
nada?
8. ¿Se esconde para hablar por
teléfono o le llegan mensajes al móvil
que no lee delante de ti?
9. ¿Apaga el móvil por las noches o
cuando está contigo “para que no
molesten”?
10. ¿Ha subido mucho su cuenta del
móvil y hay algún número de teléfono
que se repita demasiado?
11. ¿Te dice que estás obsesionada o
loca cuando le preguntas si te engaña
y cambia rápidamente de tema?
12. ¿Evita las conversaciones sobre ustedes y sobre su futuro en
común?
13. ¿Hace mucho que no tiene un detalle contigo o te dice que te
quiere?
14. ¿Pasa muchas horas frente al ordenador, escribiendo mails o
chateando y tiene mucho cuidado para que tú no veas lo que hace?
15. ¿Le has pillado aluna vez sonriendo el sólo o te da la impresión
de que está de buen humor cuando llega a casa y luego se pone
serio?
16. ¿Te ha regalado alguna vez flores inesperadamente y luego se
ha acurrucado en tu regazo para que le hagas mimos como si
hubiera hecho algo malo?
17. ¿Le has pillado alguna mentira, se contradice en cosas o se
equivoca con las horas, los nombres o los días?
18. ¿Ya no le apetece hacer planes juntos o salir de viaje?
19. ¿Te insiste en que hagas planes o viajes por tu cuenta con tus
amigas?
20. ¿Le has olido alguna vez a un perfume de mujer diferente al
tuyo, le has encontrado restos de maquillaje en la ropa o alguna
factura de hotel o restaurante?
Solución:
Lo sentimos, pero si la mayoría de tus respuestas a las preguntas
que te hemos planteado son afirmativas, todo apunta a que tu
pareja te está engañando. Aunque es muy difícil afirmar que estos
indicios aseguren que tu pareja te engaña, sí ponen en evidencia
una situación anómala. Las actitudes detalladas sólo se convertirán
en una verdadera señal de alarma si se producen a la vez y durante
un tiempo prolongado.
Si has contestado afirmativamente más de cinco preguntas deberías
plantearte si él o tú estás descuidando la
relación. Seguramente no haya ocurrido nada
pero parece que su atención se empieza a
desviar un poco de ti y, de no tomar medidas,
tal vez pueda acabar en una infidelidad.
Si todas tus respuestas son negativas, que
bien, tu chico sólo tiene ojos para ti.
Aunque recuerda que veces, nuestra propia
inseguridad puede jugarnos una mala pasada,
y malinterpretamos señales que no quieren
decir nada. Tal vez simplemente tú pareja
está preocupado por algún tema y no quiera
llenarte la cabeza con sus problemas. Por eso
es importante demostrarle que puede contar
contigo y que tú estás a su lado y así lograr
una buena comunicación.
Hay veces también que sabemos dentro
nuestro que Algo ocurre con nuestra pareja,
pero lo negamos porque tenemos miedo
de enfrentar la verdadera realidad. Esto en
mi opinión no sirve de nada, porque a la
larga todo termina saliendo a la luz, y no es
saludable guardarse las cosas dentro de uno
mismo. Siempre es mejor hablar las cosas y
tratar de enfrentarnos con lo que de verdad
ocurre, porque la mentira nos lleva a caminos
que no existen, porque la realidad es otra y no el camino ese en el
que uno quiere estar transitando.
PARA TRATAR DE EVITAR LA INFIDELIDAD es importante
mantener una buena comunicación, luchar contra la costumbre
y rutina, mostrar un carácter alegre y jovial, ser sincero con
uno mismo y con los demás, conocerse íntimamente (gustos,
fantasías, deseos, personalidad, etc), expresando el amor hacia el
otro, demostrándole su importancia para ti, dedicándole tiempo
para mantener la relación y que crezca y no desvanezca, hablar
de temas que no sean siempre los mismos, buscando momentos
íntimos, el perdón es importante (puede servir en ocasiones para
salvar la relación).
Y sobre todo en este mes démonos la oportunidad de retomar
los mejores momento con nuestras parejas y amigos!!

As long as we are in a relationship, we will always worry if our partner
is being faithful.There are a few factors that can tell us if our partner is
cheating without us knowing. How do I know if my partner is unfaithful?
To make it easier we are going to offer a test of 20 questions that you
must answer honestly. Get a pencil and paper and record your results:
1. Have you noticed a significant change in behavior? Are they more
distant, but they say nothing is going on if you ask?
2. Does he or she worry more about their appearance lately? Have
they joined a gym, started a diet, or purchased more clothes or beauty
products?
3. Are they reluctant or uninterested in having sex?
4. Do they spend more time away from home? Do they tend to have
meetings, business trips, or do they hang out with friends, or alone?
5. Do they take a shower when
they get home?
6. Have you noticed strange
activity in your bank account
or expenses that you cannot
explain?
7. Does anyone call your house
and hang up without saying
anything?
8.Do they seek privacy when
on the phone, or receive text

at night when they’re with you

they have done things for you or
told you they love you?
14. Do they spend many hours on the computer, writing emails or
chatting, always being careful that you don’t see what they are doing?
15. Have you caught them smiling alone, or do you get the impression
they are in a good mood when they get home and later become more
serious?
16. Have they given you flowers unexpectedly and later curl up in your
lap so you can console them, as if they have done something wrong?
17. Have you caught them lying, contradicting themselves or being
wrong about times, names, or dates?
18. Have they lost the desire to make plans together or go on trips?
19. Do they insist you make plans or go on trips with your friends?
20. Have you ever smelled a perfume other than your own, or found
traces of makeup, or receipts from a hotel or restaurant?
Solution:
We are sorry, but if the majority of your answers to these questions
were affirmative, there is a very good chance that your partner is
cheating. Although it is difficult to be sure, this is a strong indication that
something is inconsistent in your relationship. Keep in mind that these
indicators are only alarming if they happen at once and over a long
period of time.
If you have answered yes to more than five questions you should
consider whether you are neglecting your relationship. Surely nothing
has happened, but it appears that you are starting to slip apart, and
if you aren’t careful, it could result in cheating later on. If all of your
answers were no, then wonderful – your partner only has eyes for you.
But remember, sometimes our
own insecurity can play with us
and cause us to misinterpret
signs that really mean nothing.
Maybe your partner is worried
about something and doesn’t
want to fill your head with
their problems. For this reason
is it important to show them
that they can count of you and
that you will be by their side,
and in this way improve your
communication.
Sometimes, also, we know inside
that something is happening
with our partner, but we deny it
because we are afraid to face the
truth. This, in my opinion, doesn’t
work at all, because over time

not healthy to keep such things
hidden. It is always better to

WHAT YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT CITIZENSHIP
BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLYING FOR
CITIZENSHIP
1. To be a permanent resident of the United States with a mínimum of
five years (with some exceptions; for example, for permanent resident

of their family via the current immigration system. For example, a
citizen can ask for his or her brothers, sisters, or married children, but a
permanent resident does not have these options. Furthermore, in most
cases the waiting period is shorter when the sponsor is a citizen.
3. A citizen has the right to vote in elections. The election results
determine who will serve in politics and our local and national laws. By
way of voting, immigrants can have more influence with those who have
political power, and in this way affect immigration laws.
4. Only citizens have the right to serve a national political office.
Furthermore, only citizens have the right to apply for certain jobs with
the state and national government.

amount of time. When a permanent resident lives outside the US for
extended periods, they run the risk of losing their residency.

Escoge el día de tu boda. ¡Así como lo oyes! Todas las personas
saben más o menos la fecha de su boda. Si no me crees, haz el
siguiente ejercicio: Imagínate a la edad de 50 años, ¿estás casada o
todavía soltera? Ahora visualízate a los 40, a los 30, a los 25. En el
momento que puedas percibirte casada es porque tú ya decidiste
que alrededor de esa edad te vas a casar. Tu subconsciente acepta
lo que quieras creer. Lo que escojas pensar acerca de ti y de tu
vida, se convertirá en realidad.
Conoce al indicado
Familiarízate con él antes de conocerlo. Haz una lista de las
cualidades que deseas en esa persona. Por ejemplo: Alguien que
sepa bailar, que tenga sentido del humor, que te apoye en tu
carrera, que le gusten los animales, los niños, que no sea fumador,
etcétera. Esta lista atraerá a los prospectos indicados y te ayudará
a filtrar los que no te convienen.
CÓMO ENCONTRAR TU
ALMA GEMELA
Tu suerte en el amor depende de ese "rótulo invisible" que

and the HBA has the privilege of being associated with companies
and organizations in order to help them achieve their academic and
professional goals by way of scholarships.
We encourage our Hispanic students to take advantage of these
excellent opportunities.
Kirby Ortiz, Scholarship Chair of the Hispanic Business Association,
announced the 2010 HBA Scholarship Program. Scholarships totaling
$30,000 will be awarded to Hispanic youth from Southwest Idaho and
Eastern Oregon for the purpose of pursuing a higher education at an
accredited university or vocational training institute.
Scholarships will be awarded to area high school seniors with additional
grants being awarded to students currently attending colleges or
universities. The number of scholarships and the individual amounts
will be determined by the number of responses received. Students are
encouraged to contact their career counselors or financial aid offices for
application packages.

counselors. Application responses must be postmarked by March 1,

Every ten years, Census data funds block grants, social services and
programs that help residents of Idaho every day. Every missed count
defers $1,400 in Federal funding of the $400 billion allocated, based
upon Census data, that could have come into our state and community
to help.
Spanish speakers are among several hard-to-count populations.
The Census is a count of all residents (not just citizens). The Mexican
Consulate publically supports the U.S. Census and encourages
participation. The decennial Census is easy, important and safe –
individual data is not shared with any other law enforcement or
government agency – not even the president of the U.S.A has access.
El Censo 2010 contiene 10 preguntas y en ninguna de ellas se
pide número de seguridad social o status migratorio. Por cada
persona que participe y sea contada se distribuirán 1,400 dólares

"Aunque YouTube ofrece una vía de difusión fácil y económica
para los directores, así como para otro tipo de creadores,
y para conectar instantáneamente con sus fanáticos en
todo el mundo, muchos de ellos nos han dicho que el
modelo de insertar publicidad no resuelve sus necesidades
de distribución ni monetarias", agregó la compañía en su
página web.
Google dice que, en las próximas semanas, se ampliará el
número de socios dispuestos a que sus creaciones puedan
alquilarse a través de YouTube.
La compañía aún no definió cuál será el costo de los
alquileres, pero si anunció que en las próximas semanas
sumaría a la cartelera contenidos de empresas con las que
ya habría alcanzado otros acuerdos.
Se comenzará a probar el servicio con filmes
independientes del Festival de Cine Sundance.
En una información facilitada a través de la página web de la
compañía, Google informó que a partir del 22 de enero, los
usuarios de YouTube podrán alquilar para ver cinco películas del
festival de cine independiente de Sundance de 2009 y de 2010.
"Además de estos cinco filmes, una pequeña colección de vídeos de
alquiler de diferentes socios, procedentes de diferentes industrias,
incluida la salud y la educación, estarán disponibles en las próximas
semanas" para los usuarios, explica la compañía.
En los últimos años, Google ha explorado diferentes vías para
lograr la rentabilidad de Youtube, si bien hoy reconoció que la
inserción de publicidad es un modelo que, para muchos usuarios,
no tiene sentido.
Para realizar la operación, los usuarios deberán registrarse en
Google Checkout, medio por el que hará efectivo el pago. Lo
que YouTube confirmó es que dejará librado a consideración

The company still has not defined what exactly will be the rental
cost, but they announced that in the coming weeks the list of offerings
will increase as they reach agreements with other companies.
The service will begin with the independent filmes from the Sundance
Film Festival.
In a bulletin on their company website, Google announced that as of
January 22,YouTube users will be able to rent and view five movies from
the 2009 and 2010 Sundance Film Festivals.
“In addition to these five movies, a small collection of videos for rent
from various partners, coming from various industries, including health
and education, will be available in the next few weeks,” for users,
explained the company.
In recent years, Google has explored different ways to increase the
profitability of YouTube, since many users these days do not see the
sense in inserting advertising links.
“Although YouTube offers an easy an economical way for the directors
to share information, as well as for other kinds of creators, to instantly
connect with their fans around the world, many have said that the
model of inserting ads does not meet their distribution or financial
goals,” added the company on their website.
To complete the operation, users will need to register with Google
Checkout as a means of payment. YouTube confirmed that they leave
the price and duration of rental to the producers.
With the opening of the movie rental service, Google is embarking in
an industry already exploited by other operators, like Netflix, Amazon,
and Apple.

Mucho se ha dicho entorno al lamentable caso Salvador Cabañas
y mucho se ha escrito en el bajo mundo de las redes sociales.
Opiniones de todo tipo, conjeturas penosas algunas burlescas
otras más objetivas. Nadie más que las autoridades serán las
encargadas de poner orden a este asunto con el veredicto final.
Lástima que esas autoridades no sean necesariamente las más
capaces y elocuentes en un país que cada día se pone peor. Un
país donde se genera un desenfrenado movimiento mediático y
social porque el agredido en turno resultó ser una figura pública.
Imágenes como la Cabañas tendido en el suelo esperando auxilio,
decenas, quizá cientos se registren en México sin que nadie diga
nada.
Escuché todo tipo de comentarios, desde los que piden paciencia
y oraciones hasta los más vergonzosos al pensar que el atentado
fue lo mejor para Cabañas por ser americanista.
No somos quiénes para juzgar si hizo bien o mal estar en plena
madrugada en un sitio amado por la farándula. No nos corresponde
señalar si el delantero debía o no poner en riesgo su profesión en
medio de un entorno con olor a alcohol y tabaco. Sólo él sabrá la
razón por la cual decidió celebrar o simplemente pasar un buen
rato dentro del afamado bar.
No olvidemos que detrás de un ídolo, de un goleador, de una
estrella, de un profesional, de un seleccionado, se esconde la figura
de un ser humano como todos nosotros.

authorities have the right to give this issue the

are left lying on the floor waiting for help.There are
dozens, perhaps hundreds in Mexico, but nobody
says anything.
I have heard every kind of opinion, from those
who call for patience and prayers, to those who
feel his attacks are well justified for being such an
Americanist.
We are not the ones to judge if he did well or not,
choosing to be in such place in the early morning,
favored by fans. We can’t really say if the forward
should have been put his profession at risk hanging
out in a place so full of alcohol and tobacco. Only
he knows why he decided to celebrate or simply
hang out in that famous bar.
Let’s not forget that behind every idol, goal-keeper,

No se presentaron todos los jugadores debido a que tuvieron que asistir
a otras ciudades, pero presenciamos a uno de los mejores Kyle Wilson

resolución para mantener saludable el musculo más importante

Cada año aproximadamente 700.000 personas mueren debido a
enfermedades cardiacas. Por eso, es importante entender cómo
cuidar nuestro corazón. También es importante tomar una actitud
de prevención contra enfermedades cardiacas para una vida más
saludable. Es por eso que, la Asociación Americana del Corazón
ha proveído las siguientes preguntas y respuestas para que
empecemos a tomar acción.
Recuerden, en este mes del amor y la amistad, no hay nada más
hermoso que cuidar nuestro corazón y la de nuestros seres

¿Cómo mantener sano el corazón?
El corazón humano puede compararse al motor de un auto:
ambos son fuentes de alimentación que mantienen cuerpos en
movimiento. El corazón actúa como una bomba que impulsa la
sangre hacia los órganos, tejidos y células del organismo. La sangre
bombeada por el corazón suministra oxígeno y nutrientes a cada
célula y recoge el dióxido de carbono y las sustancias de desecho

¿Que son enfermedades cardiovasculares?
Las enfermedades cardiovasculares son aquellas que afectan al

para informar a la gente sobre sus causas y su prevención siguen
siendo la principal causa de muerte en los EE. UU. tanto en
hombres como mujeres. Las enfermedades cardiovasculares matan
a una persona cada 33 segundos en los EE.UU., es decir, unas 2.600
personas por día, más que el cáncer, el sida y los accidentes juntos.
¿Cuales son los factores que influyen los padecimientos
de una enfermedad vascular?
Ciertos factores influyen significativamente en las probabilidades
de que una persona padezca una enfermedad cardiovascular.
Algunos factores de riesgo pueden ser controlados pero otros no.
Aunque no es posible controlar factores tales como el sexo, la
edad y la herencia, sí es posible cambiar los factores relacionados
con el estilo de vida, a fin de prevenir o retrasar la aparición de

¿Que puedo hacer para evitar el riesgo cardiovascular?
También es posible reducir el riesgo cardiovascular con sólo
implementar unos pocos cambios sensatos en la dieta y estilo de
vida. Los estudios médicos demuestran que es posible reducir el
riesgo si se come una dieta baja en grasa (especialmente grasa
saturada), sal y colesterol (carnes rojas grasas, leche entera, quesos
elaborados con leche entera y platos a base de crema), no se
consume ningún tipo de tabaco, se hace ejercicio por lo menos
tres veces por semana, se mantiene un peso sano y se reduce la
presión arterial.
La dieta debe consistir principalmente en fruta, verdura, cereales,
carnes magras y pescado.

Cadiovascular diseases kill a person every 33 seconds in this country,
which is to say 2,600 every day, more than cancer, AIDS, and accidents
combined.
What are the factors that increase the risk of heart disease?
Certain factors significantly increase the probability that a person will
contract a cardiovascular disease. Some risk factors can be controlled
and others cannot.
Although it is not possible to control such factors as gender, age, and
genetics, it is possible to change the factors that relate to lifestyle, so as
to prevent or reduce the chance of heart disease.
What can I do to avoid the risk of heart disease?
It is also possible to reduce the risk of heart disease by just implementing
a few easy changes in diet and lifestyle. Medical studies show that it
is possible to reduce the risk if we eat less fat (especially saturate fat),
salt, and cholesterol (red meats, whole milk, cheese made with whole
milk, and cream based dishes), avoid tobacco in all forms, and exercise
at least three times a week, maintaining a healthy weight and low blood
pressure.
Our diet should primarily consist of fruits, vegetables, cereals, lean
meats, and fish.
At the beginning of each year, we propose many resolutions to improve
our health. But very rarely do we make a resolution to maintain the
health of the most important muscle in our body, the heart.
Every year roughly 700,000 people die as a result of heart disease.
So, it is important to understand how to care for your heart. Also, to
lead a healthy life, it is important to adopt an attitude of heart disease
prevention. For this reason, the American Heart Association has provided
the following questions and answers so we can begin to take action.
Remember, during this month of love and friendship, there is nothing
more beautiful tan caring for our hearts and for those of our loved ones.
How can I maintain a healthy heart?
The human heart can be compared to the motor of a car: both are
sources of power that keep the body moving. The heart acts like a
pump that moves blood to the organs, tissues, and cells of the body.The
blood pumped by the heart brings oxygen and nutrients to every cell
and carries away carbon dioxide and other materials produced by the
cells. But if the blood flow from the heart is decreased or if the rhythm
changes, it can place our lives in danger. As happens with the motor of
a car, the way the heart works will determine how long and how well
the body runs.
What are cardiovascular diseases?
Cardiovascular diseases are those that affect the heart or the veins
and arteries. Although there has been a lot of public information about
the causes and prevention of these diseases, they remain the principal

Algo personal.
Yo nací en la Habana, Cuba.Viví allí hasta los 15 años.Yo salí de Cuba
y dejé a mi familia e inmigré a Madrid España en búsqueda de mi
libertad personal y religiosa la cual no existía en mi país debido al
régimen comunista. Después de vivir en España por un año yo fui
patrocinado como un refugiado político por Caridades Católicas
e inmigré a los Estados Unidos cuando tenía 16 años, no hablaba
ingles y fuí restablecido en los Ángeles, CA. Conocí a mi esposa
Janice en la Universidad y nos casamos cuando teníamos 19 anos.
Tenemos cuatro hijos y dos nietos.

Qué consejo les daría a los latinos que andan buscando su
posicionamiento en la América corporativa?
La clave para un futuro brillante para nosotros es la educación;
nosotros somos personas que trabajamos duro, y necesitamos
crear las oportunidades para ellos.
Cuáles son las principales motivaciones en tu vida, las que
te han hecho exitoso?
Cuatro décadas atrás, me encontraba viajando a una tierra
desconocida para ser miembro de una cultura desconocida, dejando
mi hogar en Cuba. Caridades Católicas patrocinó mi paso seguro a
Los Estados Unidos como refugiado político. Como un adolescente
sin mucha confianza en mí mismo. Caridades Católicas hizo una
gran diferencia, introduciéndome a un nuevo estilo de vida a través
de la compasión y generosidad de otros, le debo mucho a esta
organización por convertirme en la persona quien soy hoy día.
He tenido la buena fortuna de tener buenos mentores y maestros
en mi vida. Me enfoco en lo positivo y creo que podemos hacer una
diferencia. Es con este espíritu con el que debo servir constantemente
a la comunidad. Tengo raíces profundas en la comunidad Latina así
como en el mundo de negocios. Soy bilingüe y bi-cultural, porque he
andando en la línea entre dos culturas toda mi vida.
Tienes algo más que decir?
La salud de los Latinos es un asunto de mucha importancia en
mi trabajo con Regence y estoy muy comprometido en dirigir las
discrepancias de la salud que existen entre poblaciones de color
y la población en general. En fin, la salud de los Latinos afectará el
éxito de nuestra economía y nuestra habilidad de realizar nuestros
sueños.
Empecé mi involucramiento con la comunidad en los EEUU
siendo voluntario en la prisión Chino en California, como capellán
católico. Ese fue un gran desafío para mí con todos los problemas
del ambiente de la prisión. En los años recientes he dedicado mi
tiempo para enseñar inglés como segunda lengua a los inmigrantes
recientes en St. Pius en Portland, lo cuál ha sido muy divertido y de
mucho beneficio.
Cómo llegaste a conocer de Idaho?
Las áreas de servicios de Regence incluyen Oregon, Washington,
Utah y Idaho. Yo me vine a involucrar con la comunidad Latina de
Idaho a través de mi trabajo con Regence. Estoy muy impresionado
con el compromiso que la gente de Idaho ha demostrado entre sí
y el alto nivel de involucramiento con la comunidad de negocios
Latinos.
Organizaciones como Big Brothers y Big Sisters agradecen mucho
las presentaciones sobre competencia cultural así que lo hago una
prioridad ofrecerles estas capacitaciones para sus nuevos empleados.

Estamos en el amanecer del mayor crecimiento económico de la
comunidad Latina de Idaho. Somos una fuerza política y económica
significante a nivel nacional y estatal. Eso aumentará a medida que
aumente nuestra población. Yo creo que debemos enfocarnos en la
salud y educación. Como una comunidad debemos unirnos y crear
el futuro por el que vinimos a tener aquí. Tenemos que ayudar a
nuestros niños a permanecer en la escuela y a recibir la educación
que algunos de nosotros no pudimos recibir.
Soy miembro de la directiva de la Cámara Hispana Metropolitana
de Portland y generalmente soy muy activo en los eventos de la
comunidad Hispana, como la Ventanilla de Salud y la Semana de
Salud Bi-Nacional. Para el “Race for the Cure” de Susan G. Komen,
fui asesor de estrategia de media Latina y ayudé en el evento ser
compañero con el consulado Mexicano para recaudación de fondos.

Francisco is the leader and content expert for Regence’s Latino initiative.
Regionally recognized for building relationships among the Latino
community, Francisco has delivered an astute marketing strategy to help
Latinos access the healthcare system. He currently serves on the board
of directors of Catholic Charities and the Oregon Hispanic Chamber. His
competency is proven in guiding companies and their people through
periods of growth in evolving markets.
We would like initiate your interview with a short narration
of your life; including your arrival to the US. Something more
personal.
I was born in Habana, Cuba. And I lived there until at the age of 15
I left Cuba and my family and immigrated to Madrid Spain in search
of personal and religious freedom which was nonexistent in my country
due to the communist regime. After living in Spain for over a year I was
sponsored as a political refugee by Catholic Charities and immigrated to
the US. I was 16 spoke no English and was resettled in Los Angeles Ca. I
meet my wife Janice, in college and we were married at the age of 19.We
have four children and two grandchildren.
How did you come to know Idaho?
The Regence footprint includes Oregon, Washington, Utah and Idaho. I
became involved in the Latino community in Idaho though my work with
Regence. I am very impressed by the commitment the people of Idaho
have demonstrated to each other and the high level of involvement of the
Latino business community
Can you speak to the potential of Idaho’s Latino community in
terms of economic development?
We are at the dawn of the major economic growth for the Idaho Latino
community. We are a significant economic and political force in the state
and at the national level. This will only increase as our numbers continue
to increase. I believe we need to focus on education and health. As a
community we must come together and create the future we came here
to experience. We have to help our children to stay in school receive the
education some of us were not able to receive.
What advice would you give to latinos finding their way around
corporate America?
The key to a brighter future for us is education; we are a hardworking
people we need to create our opportunities by being prepared for them
when they present themselves.
What are the driving forces in your life that have made you
successful?
Four decades ago, I found myself travelling to an unknown land and
becoming a member of an unknown culture, leaving my home in Cuba.
Catholic Charities sponsored my safe passage to America as a political
refugee. As a teenager who wasn’t so sure of himself at the time, Catholic
Charities made all the difference in introducing me to a new way of
life through the compassion and generosity of others, I owe a lot to this
organization for making me the person I am today.
I have had the good fortune of having had great mentors and teachers in
my life. I focus on the positive and believe that we can make a difference.
It’s with this spirit that I feel it’s my duty to constantly give back to the
community. I have deep roots in the Latino community as well as the
business world. I am bi-lingual and bi-cultural as I have walked the line
between two cultures my whole life.
Anything else you want to add or say?
The health of Latinos is an issue at the forefront of my work at Regence
and I am fiercely committed to addressing the health disparities that exist
between populations of color and the general population. Ultimately, the
health of Latinos will affect our economic success and ability to fully realize
our dreams.
I began my community involvement in the US through volunteering at
Chino Prison in California as a Catholic Chaplain. This was a veritable
trial by fire as the challenges in a prison environment definitely tested my
resolve. In recent years I have devoted my time to teaching ESL to recent
emigrants at St. Pius in Portland which has been very rewarding and fun.
I find that organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters consider it
extremely valuable to receive cultural competency presentations so I
make it a priority to make myself available to them for new employee
orientations and out of town staff training sessions.
I am very active in Big Brothers Big Sisters as a whole, having been a big
brother myself I know the power that a mentoring relationship can have
on a child and am also focused on incorporating the Latino community
into the vision of Big Brothers Big Sisters, playing an active role in the
Latino Mentoring Advisory Council.
I am a board member to the Portland Metropolitan Hispanic Chamber
and am generally very active in events in the Latino community such as
Ventanilla de Salud or Bi-National Health Week. For Susan G. Komen’s
“Race for the Cure”, I have helped guide the Latino media strategy and
helped the event partner with the Mexican consulate for greater outreach
and fundraising. I currently serve on the board of directors of Catholic
Charities of Portland.

ASUNTOS HISPANOS DE IDAHO
La Comisión de Asuntos Hispanos de Idaho está encarando
momentos muy difíciles como agencia estatal que representa
y defiende a la gente Hispana. Esta Comisión, la cual fue fundada
en 1987 por estatutos, provee un foro único en el que dirige las
necesidades cambiantes de un segmento importante de nuestra
población. Hoy, la Comisión trabaja en conjunto con otras
agencias estatales, organizaciones sin fines de lucro, instituciones
educacionales, y con negocios privados para influir y evitar que se
dupliquen los recursos y esfuerzos; modelo que ha trabajado, está
trabajando, y está de acuerdo con lo que el gobierno de nuestro
estado quiere ver de unas de sus agencias.
El 11 de enero de 2010 el gobernador presentó sus recomendaciones
para el presupuesto del año fiscal 2011. Unas de las recomendaciones
son de eliminar el sustento estatal a La Comisión de Asuntos de
Hispanos. Para el 2014, la Comisión no recibirá dinero estatal para
las operaciones de la agencia.
Todas las recomendaciones del gobernador necesitan ser aprobadas
por la legislatura.
Esta propuesta reversa sobre 23 años de arduo trabajo preparado
por numerosos líderes Hispanos en Idaho y tendrá un serio y
negativo impacto en la habilidad de la Comisión en hacer el trabajo
por las persona Hispanas en Idaho.
Como directora ejecutiva, me mantengo comprometida a servir a
nuestro Hispanos Idahoenses y a trabajar con mis comisionados,
legisladores, y la oficina del gobernador para responder a los retos y
marcar el curso para que la Comisión no pierda la visión de nuestro
cargo.

COMMISSION ON HISPANIC
AFFAIRS
The Idaho Commission on Hispanic affairs faces hard challenges ahead
as a state agency representing and advocating for our Hispanic people.
This Commission, which was established in 1987 by statute, provides a
unique forum in which to address the changing needs of an important
segment of our population. Today, the Commission works closely with
other state agencies, non-profit organizations, educational institutions,
and private businesses to leverage resources and avoid duplication of
efforts; a model that has worked, is working, and emulates what our
state government wants to see from one of its agencies.
On January 11, 2010 the Governor released his budget recommendations
for FY 2011. One of the recommendations is to phase out the Idaho
Commission on Hispanic Affairs from receiving state funding. By
2014, the Commission will receive no state money to keep the agency
operational.
All Governor Recommendations will need to be approved by the
legislature.
This proposal reverses over 23 years of hard work done by numerous
Hispanic leaders in Idaho and will have a serious and negative impact
on the ability of the Commission to do its work for the Hispanic people
of Idaho.
As the Executive Director, I remain committed to serving Hispanic
Idahoans and will work with my Commissioners, Legislators, and the
Governor's Office to respond to this challenge by charting a course for
the Commission that doesn’t lose sight of our charge.

ser mejores. El grupo Musical Impacto
Latino; me dio la oportunidad de
presentarme con ellos, fue una muy
grata experiencia.
Estoy abierta a invitaciones de otros
grupos para aprender y así rodearme
del cariño de mi gente. Considero
que soy un ejemplo para muchos,
porque tuve que convertirme en
adulta rápidamente, más sin embargo
