President’s Message
Happy New Year!!!! I hope everyone had a healthy and merry Christmas. With all the bad
weather around the country I hope everyone got to their destinations safe and sound. With the new
year approaching, the Chamber will be anticipating a number of new board members. We had our
election and I am disappointed in the number of ballots that we received from our members. But,
we have some extremely talented people that will serve on the board this coming year. I expect this
to be an exciting year for the Chamber. The board has already been making plans for the upcoming
year. The Fall Fashion Show and Holiday Home Tour were great successes. And changes are already being discussed to make them bigger and better next year. We will bring back the Jack and
Jill, so any of you golfers out there that would like to chair this event please step up. So stay
tuned… we are anticipating great changes for this new year.
The Helendale Chamber of Commerce will also be sponsoring a “Meet the Candidates” night
on Monday, January 11th. There are a number of people running for the Silver Lakes Board and this
is your chance to ask questions and meet the candidates. It will be
held in the Library at the Silver Lakes Clubhouse at 7:00pm.
Helendale Chamber of Commerce 10th Annual Holiday Home Tour
Whew! It’s over and we leave the event behind us with a sense of pride, accomplishment, appreciation,
humbleness, and relief. There are so many people to thank for our success, and we

Anty’s Deli
Aloha, from Anty’s Deli. Owner’s Lorrie Dean & Amparo Mercado have plans to open
by February 2010. Exact date will be announced prior to grand opening. Lorrie Dean is a native
of California, married to her husband Gary Dean for 20 years, they have two children and three
grandchildren. Lorrie got her start in the food service business seven years ago when she and her
family moved to the beautiful Island of Kona, Hawaii. As they settled into their new home on the
Island, they were invited to many B.B.Q ’s where everyone brings a dish. Lorrie having a passion
Lorrie Dean Amparo Mercado
for cooking and making people happy, she prepared recipes that her mother taught her to cook as
a young girl growing up. To Lorries’ delight their friends said she needed to open a restaurant.
A few months later while flying back to the Island from California, she decided to investigate what other people
thought of her food. She began cooking favorite family dishes out of her kitchen and with ice chest in hand; hit the streets of
Kailua-Kona. The response was so incredible; she started a small home business, visiting local job sites, office buildings and
then whole selling to a local deli. Within one month she was offered a lease to the deli she had been servicing. Lorrie accepted
and named the deli “The Kosher Taco” in honor of her Father and Mother. Inspiration for the deli came from when she was
young girl, the kids at school asked what was her nationality? Puzzled, she asked her father and he said with delight, “you are a
Kosher Taco!” (My mom Mexican and my dad Jewish). The name got a lot of attention as you could imagine. After the first
year her husband was able to quit his job and start working for The Kosher Taco. Husband Gary and son Gary Jr. quickly took
over the outside sales and as a result they became very well known for delicious, unique food and great customer service. After
seven years, missing her daughter and grand children, they decided to give up the Kosher Taco and move back to California.
They chose your great community Silver Lakes to call home.
While planning a trip back to Kona Lorrie discovered the same type of deli she owned, was just what Silver Lakes
needed. Knowing she wouldn’t be able to run the deli on her own she offered the opportunity to her life long friend, Amparo
Mercado, who shared her great passion for cooking. Lorrie and Amparo were excited and confident they could bring a little bit
of paradise to the Oasis (S.L) in the High Desert. Anty’s will be a Food on the Go restaurant, with the twist of Hawaiian atmosphere. Ante’s will offer Kona Coffee, breakfast, lunch and home delivered dinners. In addition specialties will include dishes
for diabetics, and heart friendly foods, Hawaiian, Mexican, Porto Rican and good old American Comfort foods. You can also
find specialty gifts and pictures from Hawaii. We are very excited to bring a great service to the community with Aloha!
Anty’s will be located at the North Lake Plaza, Lorrie and Amparo are looking forward to serving all of the community.
Mahalo, from Anty’s!
