Born in the heart of her country, San Salvador,
Alejandra was destined for success from a young
age. Her father was a successful businessman

two children. “My mother is a very disciplined

“I try to help people understand that the industrial
age is over, and network marketing is the smartest
business that they can develop,” says Federico
Sarmiento, one of Zrii’s newest 10-Stars from
Bogotá, Colombia. And he should know, coming from
a family rich with successful business experience.
Federico’s dad is a pensioned civil engineer. His
mom is a pensioned physical therapist, and now a
9-Star member of his team! The youngest of four
siblings, Federico has had great examples to look up
to. His oldest sister, Juana, obtained a law degree,
and later opened her own consulting company with
her husband, Rodolfo. Federico’s brother, Pablo,
owns his own publishing company. His other sister,
Catalina, lives in Paris and is an accomplished artist.

through his veins, it’s no surprise that Federico has

After finishing his studies at Colegio Helvetia, a
private Swiss school in Bogotá, Federico went on

Phillips. Thanks to smart phones and laptops, he
manages the growth of his Zrii business between
performing on movie sets and sailing off to exotic
ports of call in the Pacific.
How does his workday compare to yours?
“Today I surfed 15 foot waves for two hours, had
a break on my boat, answered a few calls, did a
three-way call, and then went back out for some
more action,” he says, smiling broadly.
Born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, his father prospered
as the owner of a textile business and his mother achieved fame as
New Zealand’s top model. He grew up sailing and exploring the south
Pacific Islands and climbing iconic mountains, surrounded by natural
beauty and the cleanest ocean in the world. In school he excelled in
sports, math and English.
After graduating from Saint Kentigern College with a degree in
business management and marketing, he set out to follow his bliss.

Success is a magic word, and I believe in it too.
When people are given the opportunity, almost all
will pursue some kind of success. But matching
opportunity with success is trickier than one might
suppose. If Bill Gates had had the opportunity to fill
Mother Teresa’s shoes, or vice versa, what would have
happened? We spend a lot of time testing out different choices,
walking down paths that don’t work out as we had hoped. Some people
wind up with a misfit existence, and then the possibility of the worst kind of
failure—being a failure in your own eyes—becomes a real possibility.
In India there’s a term for the life that leads a person to the right path of success:
dharma. The word comes from the Sanskrit verb “to uphold,” implying that the
universe will support you when you find the path that is right for you. How do
you know if you are in your dharma? It’s a delicate matter, because everyone is
complex enough that mind, personality, interests, education, and background
pull in different directions. Even in India, where the concept of dharma is
commonplace, the traditional way to follow your dharma was to do whatever your
family always did, whether it was making shoes, farming, or ruling a kingdom.
Modern life gives far more latitude for choice, and yet external opportunities, important as they are, don’t solve
the question of how to find your dharma. The whole issue quickly dissolves into confusion. We may ask, If the
universe or God or destiny wants me to live the best life, why doesn’t it send a sign I can follow? Actually, it
does. In the midst of everyday life, we constantly receive signals that will direct us towards the best existence.
Here are some of the positive signals that you’re on the right track:
n You welcome the next challenge and feel confident you can meet it.
n You enjoy what you’re doing.
n You feel freer today than you were a year ago.
n There’s a potential inside you that’s blossoming into reality.

n You are being true to yourself.
n External rewards are secondary to inner fulfillment.

For many generations, these signals didn’t pertain to the work a person did; they fit retirement. After holding
down a job that brought only a fraction of personal fulfillment, people looked forward to getting out of the
rat race and really living. However, it’s fair to say that most of us want everything on this list today, not
somewhere in our distant “golden years.” On the other hand, contrary forces still pull the other way.
Here are the negative signals that you aren’t on the path of fulfillment:
n You can't wait to go home from work.
n You feel underused and under-appreciated.

n Don’t coast or settle—keep exploring and trying new things.

in Tegucigalpa, Honduras for twoyears in missionary service. I saw
a lot of people who didn’t have as
much opportunity as me. I saw it
