To all community members of Wright Elementary,
I would like to thank the parents who attended the meet and greet on Wednesday evening. It was nice
talking with you and getting your input on expectations you have for the new Principal. A great big
thank you to the PTO parents for meeting with me and providing information regarding school
activates and fund raisers. You were a pleasure to meet with and have made an incredible
commitment to Wright Elementary. I would also like to thank the students and staff of for your warm
welcome. Though I have only been here for one week, I am beyond impressed with the dedication all
our staff have to our school and community. Lastly, thank you to the office and custodial staff for
assisting me with the day to day operations of the building; your help has been invaluable!
The second round of PARCC testing (EOY) will be April 27, 28, and 29. Though the testing times are a
bit shorter, the testing schedule will be similar.
Again, I deeply appreciated the warm welcome I have received from everyone and I look forward to
getting to know you better in the near future. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and please don’t
hesitate to reach out to me at any time.
Sincerely,
Dawn Reig
Family, school and community coming together to create students who are
Respectful, Responsible and Ready
Dear Parents and Families:
Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills children learn, it is the one you can
influence the most.
We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair and experience a celebration of reading that provides families
the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission: encouraging kids to read every day so they can lead
better lives.
Our Scholastic Book Fair theme encourages students to celebrate reading with hundreds of fun, engaging,
affordable books for them to discover. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose their
own books will motivate them to read more. And like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the
better they’ll get.
Reading is vital to every child’s success, and raising kids to love reading means getting involved while
they’re young. Now is the time. Since there will never be a substitute for a parent’s direct involvement in
his/her child’s education, please make plans to visit our Book Fair. Hope to see you there!
Book Fair Dates: May 4 – May 7
Student Preview Days: May 4 and 5
Buying Days: May 6 and 7
Shopping Hours: 8:00 AM – 2:15 PM
Before you visit the Book Fair, be sure to download the FREE Book Fairs App to help you find the right fit
books for your child. For more information, visit: scholastic.com/apps/bookfairs. If you’re all booked up
during Book Fair week, be sure to visit the Book Fair online at scholastic.com/fair. Our Online Fair is
available for an extended time from April 25 to May 15.
We look forward to having you participate in our Fair, and remember, all purchases benefit our school.
Sincerely,
Don Wicker

your children.

Younger children should be reminded that drivers may be distracted for a variety of reasons, they
should always be careful crossing the street.
Nationally, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of children who have been struck by
motor vehicles that illegally pass school buses. There has been no definitive reason offered for
this rash of accidents. Remind children they must always cross in front of their school bus and be
sure that traffic has stopped for them before they proceed across the street. The driver will signal
them when it is safe to cross.
Spring weather brings out the euphoria in children. Behavior problems can distract the driver
which could result in an accident. This is a good opportunity for us to remind them to respect your
driver and the other students on the bus, talk using your inside voice and always remain seated
while the bus is in motion.
Check your child’s clothing and backpack for the presence of long drawstrings or other dangling
items. These items can get snagged in the bus door as the child gets off the bus and should be
removed from clothing and bags.
Insist that your child wait for the bus safely and in an orderly fashion, back away from the roadway.
Behavior problems and horse play at the bus stop can create hazardous conditions for children.
Make sure that your child arrives at the designated bus stop five minutes prior to the scheduled
pick up time. Children who are late for the bus may panic and chase after the bus, or run into the
road.
Have a plan for what your child should do if they were to miss the bus in the morning and what they
should do if they arrive home and can’t get into the house.
A Few Reminders for Drivers of Motor Vehicles
A school bus’ flashing yellow lights are a warning the bus will soon be stopping to load or unload
passenger.
The extended STOP signal arm and flashing red lights advise motorists the bus has stopped and is
loading/unloading passengers. Motorists coming from either direction MUST STOP when they see
these signals displayed. The majority of children injured or killed in pupil transportation are injured
outside the bus, struck by motorists who fail to stop for the flashing red lights and extended stop
arm.
State law requires school buses to stop for all railroad crossings. If you are approaching the bus
from the front, you may proceed past with caution. If you are approaching the bus from the rear,
the law prohibits driving over the center line to pass if the bus is within 100 feet of a railroad
crossing.
There are penalties for illegally passing a school bus. First offense is a mandatory minimum fine of
$150 and a 3 month suspension of driver’s license. Second offense is a mandatory minimum fine
of $500 and one year suspension of driver’s license. A motorist cited for illegally passing a school
bus is not eligible for court supervision.
A bus driver can sign a complaint with the local police department against the owner of the
violating vehicle. The owner of the vehicle is responsible for identifying the driver at the time of the
violation. Failure to do so will result in the transfer of the violation to the registered owner.
Finally, please use extreme caution when driving on a school campus. Children can come from
any direction and easily forget to watch for moving vehicles. Drivers are often in a hurry; it only
takes a second or two to save a life.

Now is not too early to begin scheduling important physical and immunization
appointments! All students must be up-to-date with physical examination and
immunization requirements and all forms must be turned into the School Health
Office prior to August 1st to ensure students can begin school on the first day of
attendance. Students will not be able to attend school until all required health
information is on file.
Important Health Requirements for 2015-2016
All students entering Early Childhood, Kindergarten, Sixth and Ninth grades are required to have a
current physical examination completed on the approved Illinois Department of Public Heath Form. A
sport physical does not meet the requirement. A current physical is one that was completed within one
year of August 2015. The parent portion on the upper back side of the form must be completed and
signed. All students must be up-to-date with the State of Illinois immunization requirements including
the following:
Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year all students entering sixth grade must show proof of
receiving one dose of meningococcal vaccine (meningitis).
Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year all students entering twelfth grade must show proof of
receiving two doses of meningococcal vaccine (meningitis) unless the first dose was given after
the age of 16, then only one dose is required.
All students entering grades six through twelve must show proof of receiving one dose of Tdap.
All students entering kindergarten, first, sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth grades must show proof
of receiving two doses of varicella (chickenpox).
Immunization dates can be viewed through the Parent Infinite Campus Portal.
D300 together with Greater Elgin Family Care Center offer physical and immunization clinics onsite at
D300 schools throughout the year. Please visit the D300 Health Services website or contact any D300
School Health Office for dates and locations.

Eagles girls’ and boys’ tennis programs. Coach Betts, entering his eleventh year as a head
coach, is a 2005 graduate of Knox College where he was a 4-year varsity letter winner and allconference selection in both tennis and soccer. In addition to being a 4th grade teacher at Liberty
Elementary, Coach Betts, a USPTA-certified tennis teaching professional, was selected as an
IHSTCA Regional Coach of the Year following the girls’ conference championship season.
Coach Betts will be assisted by a number of current college tennis players and former high
school stand-outs. Participants may expect a low student-to-instructor ratio.
The Golden Eagles’ tennis camps are a great way to learn tennis, improve your game, make new
friends and, most importantly, HAVE FUN! No prior tennis experience is required. All
aspects of the game will be covered during the camps. Each camper receives a camp t-shirt.

There are many, many factors that influence
behavior. Addressing those factors and how
they impact student learning is never a simple
endeavor. A Functional Behavior Assessment is
a comprehensive, individualized strategy to
identify the purpose or function of a student’s
problem behavior. A Behavior Intervention
Plan is then developed to teach skills the
student can use to replace the behavior.
This free program will provide valuable
information about Functional Assessments and
Behavior Intervention Plans and how they are
developed and implemented. Learn the
difference between skill deficits and
performance deficits and how changing things
like environment, antecedents and
consequences are used to improve student
outcomes. How is data collected and used?
Join us for what is sure to be an informative
evening. Bring a friend as well as any questions
you might have. There will be ample time for a
Q&A session after the presentation.

preguntas. Después de la presentación habrá tiempo
suficiente para una sesión de Preguntas y
Respuestas.
