Queremos comenzar este tercer número de
la Revista Saludhable felicitando a la Clínica
Vistahermosa ya que cumple 50 años. Y es que
un hospital que cumple 50 años siempre es
una buena noticia ya que demuestra su saber
hacer en el tiempo.

congratulating
Vistahermosa Clinic for its 50 years. A hospital
that has been around for 50 years is always
good news as it demonstrates its expertise in

Un aniversario muy especial que conmemora
medio siglo desde que un equipo de médicos,
fundamentalmente
ginecólogos,
aunara
esfuerzos para fundar una clínica destinada
especialmente a maternidad, hoy convertida
en un gran complejo hospitalario.
A very special anniversary commemorating
half a century since a team of doctors, mainly
gynecologists, join efforts to find a clinic
designed especially for the motherhood. A
maternity Clinic converted into a large hospital

La exposición El Reino de la Sal. 7.000 años de

Viena y el MARQ, para presentar, por primera
vez en España, los resultados más recientes de

de sal y en su interior, no sólo expone piezas
inimaginables por su estado de conservación,
sino todo un cúmulo de información de especial
interés para un público ávido de conocer su
pasado.

The exhibition El Reino de la Sal (The Kingdom
of Salt) 7,000 years of history of Hallstatt, comes
thanks to the efforts of the Natural History
Museum in Vienna and the MARQ, to show for
the first time in Spain the most recent results of
the rigorous multidisciplinary research carried
out in the most famous prehistoric salt mines in
Europe.
The MARQ seeks to bring visitors to the life of an
extraordinary civilization that flourished around
Lake Hallstatter, in the Austrian Alps, providing
in its three temporary exhibition halls, modules
which recreates salt blocks outside and inside,
not only exposes unimaginable pieces for its
condition, but a whole wealth of information of
special interest to an audience eager to know
their past.

Con motivo de la inauguración el pasado
mes de la Unidad de Medicina Deportiva
Traumavist-Montemar, alianza entre
el Club Atlético Montemar y la Clínica
Viostahermosa, realizamos una entrevista al
Doctor César Cobián, profesional reconocido
internacionalmente en medicina deportiva y
responsable de esta unidad que comienza
ahora a dar servicio en las instalaciones del
complejo deportivo alicantino.
Due to the opening last month of
the Sports Medical Unit TraumavistMontemar, an alliance between
Club Atlético Montemar and
Vistahermosa Clinic, we interviewed
Dr. César Cobián, great eminence in
sports medicine and responsible for
this unit that will start its service in
the premises of the sport centre.

REVISTA SALUDHABLE: Doctor Cobián,
cuéntenos un poco sobre su trayectoria
profesional a lo largo de los últimos años.
REVISTA SALUDHABLE: Doctor Cobián, could
you please tell us about your professional
career over the years.
DR. COBIÁN: He dedicado prácticamente
toda mi vida profesional al deporte, al trato
de los deportistas. Desde el año 1990 y
hasta el 2007 fui médico del Club de Fútbol
Deportivo de la Coruña. Con ellos tuve la
suerte de vivir no sólo más de 100 partidos
de competiciones europeas, sino también la
conquista de 3 Supercopas y ser campeones
de liga en el año 2000, entre otras victorias.
Fue una época de máximo nivel de fútbol.
DR. COBIÁN: I spent almost my entire
professional life in sport, the treatment of
athletes. From 1990 to 2007 I was the doctor
of the Deportivo de La Coruña Football
Club. With them I was fortunate to live not
only more than 100 European competition
matches, but also the conquest of three
Super Cups and being champions league in
2000, among other victories. It was a time of
the highest level in football.

En el 2007 me trasladé a Valencia donde
trabajé en el centro de rehabilitación
deportista La Calderona, trabajo que
compaginaba con la atención al Club de
Fútbol Deportivo de Castellón.
In 2007 I moved to Valencia where I worked
in the athlete’s rehabilitation center La
Calderona, a job that I managed to have
a part from assisting the Deportivo de
Castellón Football Club.
En el 2011 me asenté en Alicante, donde
resido en la actualidad, y fui médico del
Hércules de Alicante Club de Fútbol. Soy
miembro del grupo de Traumavist, la unidad
de traumatología de la Clínica Vistahermosa,
y desde este grupo colaboramos con el
equipo de Rugby de La Vila y Ontinyent Club
de Fútbol.
In 2011 I settled in Alicante, where I now live,
and was doctor of the Hercules de Alicante
Football Club. I am a member of Traumavist,
trauma unit at Vistahermosa Clinic, and
from here we collaborate with the rugby
team La Vila and Ontinyent Football Club.
RS: ¿Qué vivencias le han colmado de mayor
satisfacción?
DR. COBIÁN: A lo largo de mi trayectoria
profesional he vivido muchas situaciones
emocionantes. La competición europea con
el Deportivo de la Coruña fue un gran reto
en cuanto a formación y responsabilidad
que, sin duda, me colmó de plena
satisfacción. Recuerdo cuando, en algunas
ciudades europeas, nos encontrábamos
con estudiantes españoles que estaban

RS: What experiences have filled you with
most satisfaction?
DR. COBIÁN: Throughout my career, I have
experienced many exciting situations. The
European competition with Deportivo de la
Coruña was a big challenge faced in terms of
training and responsibility. It definitely filled me
with satisfaction. I remember when, in some
European cities, we met with Spanish students
who were pursuing their scholarship Erasmus
and greeted us so warmly and with admiration;
because meeting us was like meeting a part of
their home, and we felt the same.

cursando su beca Erasmus y nos recibían
con tanto cariño como admiración, pues
encontrarse con nosotros era como hacerlo
con una parte de su hogar, y a nosotros nos
pasaba lo mismo.
RS: You are the doctor responsible for the
new Sports Medical Unit. What makes you
different with respect to other specialized
clinics?
RS: Usted es el médico responsable de la
nueva Unidad de Medicina del Deporte.
¿Qué le hace diferente con respecto a
otras clínicas especializadas?
DR. COBIÁN: Our intention in creating this
specialized clinic was simply to take the
hospital to athletes, closer to its own area,
for this reason the clinic is located in the
Club and not Vistahermosa.
DR. COBIÁN: Nuestra intención al crear esta
clínica especializada era sencillamente
llevar el hospital a los deportistas, acercarlo
a su propio ámbito. Por este motivo la clínica
se ubica en las instalaciones del Club y no
en Vistahermosa.
First we want to emphasize on PREVENTION,
whether injuries (muscle, bones, etc.) or
diseases (respiratory, cardiovascular, etc.)
that may arise with the practice of sports. Of
course, we will work both on RECOGNITION
and REHABILITATION.
En primer lugar hacemos hincapié en la
PREVENCIÓN, ya sean lesiones (musculares,
óseas, etc.) o enfermedades (respiratorias,
cardiovasculares, entre otras); que puedan
originarse con la práctica de algún deporte.
Por supuesto, realizaremos un trabajo
tanto de RECONOCIMIENTO como de
REHABILITACIÓN.
As for recognition there will be two
programs: basic and advanced. The basic
is aimed at both children and adults who
play sports recreationally. These tests are
aimed primarily at detecting respiratory,
cardiovascular or motor risks or problems.
En cuanto al reconocimiento habrá dos
programas: básico y avanzado. El básico
está orientado tanto para niños como para
adultos que practican el deporte de forma
recreativa, estas pruebas están enfocadas
principalmente a la detección de riesgos o
problemas respiratorios, cardiovasculares
o motores.
El programa avanzado se centra en los
deportistas profesionales o
aquellas
personas que se dedican al deporte
de forma más intensa, y las pruebas
que se realizan requieren de un mayor
nivel e intensidad: prueba de esfuerzo,
espirometría, analíticas…
Con
respecto
a
la
rehabilitación,
contaremos con los mejores profesionales
y las técnicas más punteras en el ámbito
de la Traumatología que ofrece la Clínica
Vistahermosa.
With regards to rehabilitation, we will
have the best professionals and the
most advanced techniques in the field of
traumatology that Vistahermosa Clinic
offers.
Everything is about preparing and making
people aware of doing any kind of sport
in a safe way. For those who are starting
a sport the aim should be to exercise in a
proper way. For the most experienced ones,
to prevent from having injuries.
Se trata de preparar y concienciar a la
gente para practicar cualquier tipo de
deporte de forma segura. A los iniciados
con objeto de ejercitarlo adecuadamente
y a los experimentados para prevenir
lesiones.
The advanced program focuses on
professional athletes or those who are
dedicated to sport in a more intense way,
and the tests performed require a higher
level and intensity: exercise test, spirometry,
analytical...

Ya con un año de edad el ritmo circadiano
está totalmente establecido, lo que
implica que el niño tiene un sueño
nocturno continuo, durmiendo una media
de 10.5 a 12 horas y que las siestas se van
a ir reduciendo. Los estudios demuestran
que a partir del año de edad disminuye
progresivamente la cantidad
de sueño diurno, siendo esto más
evidente a partir del
segundo año.

When children are a year old the
circadian rhythm is already fully
established, which means that the
child has a continuous nocturnal sleep,
sleeping an average of 10.5 to 12 hours
and that naps are going to start
reducing. Studies show that from a
year-old the amount of daytime sleep
decreases, this being more evident
after the second year.
Casi todos los niños a la edad de dos años
todavía hacen una siesta (después de
comer), desapareciendo ésta en la mayor
parte de los casos sobre los 4-5 años de
edad.

son frecuentes. Se piensa que es una
interferencia
del
ritmo
ultradiano
característico de los niños más pequeños.
Hasta el 10% de los niños se despiertan al
menos una vez por noche y el 50% al menos
una vez a la semana. Los padres tienen que
conocer que estos despertares forman
parte del desarrollo del niño y que sean
más persistentes y se conviertan en un
problema va a depender de la capacidad
del niño para volver a dormirse solo, sin la
presencia de los papás.
Almost all children at the age of two years
still have a nap (after eating), disappearing
in most cases about 4-5 years old.
Nighttime awakenings are still frequent.
It is thought to be an interference in the
ultradian rhythm in younger children. Up to
10% of the children wake up at least once a
night and 50% at least once a week. Parents
need to know that these awakenings are
part of the child’s development. For these
awakenings to be more persistent and
become a problem will depend on the child’s
ability to return to sleep by him or herself,
without the presence of parents.

También son frecuentes los terrores
nocturnos: son episodios que ocurren a
las pocas horas de haberse dormido. El
niño que dormía plácidamente de repente
chilla y cuando acudimos a su dormitorio
lo encontramos agitado, sudoroso, con
taquicardia y con cara de miedo. Intentamos
consolarlo pero no responde a nuestros
estímulos pues realmente está dormido. Lo
que debemos hacer es permanecer a su
lado, para asegurarnos de que no se golpee
o lesione y esperar a que pase el episodio,
con lo que el niño volverá a dormir tranquilo.
A la mañana siguiente no recordará nada
de lo sucedido.
Los terrores nocturnos son episodios
benignos, edad-dependientes y que, en
muchas ocasiones, se desencadenan tras
una privación de sueño, como puede ser
el hecho de quitarles la siesta. Suele haber
un componente genético, habiendo algún
familiar que tuvo episodios similares o de
sonambulismo en la infancia.
At this age nightmares are frequent: they
are episodes that occur between one and
two hours after sleep. The child who was
sleeping pleasantly suddenly screams and
when we go to the room we find the child
agitated, sweating, with tachycardia and
a scared face. We try to comfort him but
he does not respond to our stimulus as
the child is really asleep. What we must
do is to stay by his side, to make sure that
he does not hit or injure himself and wait
until the episode finishes, so the child will
sleep peacefully. The next morning he won’t
remember anything of what happened.
Nightmares are harmless episodes, age
dependent and in many cases are triggered
after sleep deprivation, such as taking their
nap time away. There is often a genetic
component, having a family member who
had similar episodes or sleepwalking in
childhood.
El ronquido y la apnea del sueño también
son frecuentes a esta edad. De hecho
hasta el 12% de los niños roncan aunque
la prevalencia de la apnea del sueño en el
niño se estima en el 2%. Se trata de cierres
de la vía respiratoria superior durante el
sueño que pueden conllevar a un descenso
de oxígeno en sangre y que asocian un
microdespertar que altera y fragmenta la
continuidad del sueño.
El niño con apnea del sueño presenta una
respiración ruidosa mientras duerme,
frecuentemente respira por la boca e
incluso puede llegar a adoptar posturas
raras mientras duerme en un intento de
abrir la vía respiratoria (hiperextensión
del cuello, dormir semisentados). Son
niños que frecuentemente presentan
parasomnias, como los terrores nocturnos,

La fragmentación del sueño provoca
alteraciones del comportamiento y de
la conducta (muchos de estos niños son
etiquetados erróneamente de trastorno
por déficit de atención e hiperactividad),
problemas de aprendizaje e incluso fracaso
escolar.
En casos severos pueden producirse
problemas cardiovasculares. La causa más
frecuente de la apnea del sueño en los niños
es la hipertrofia (agrandamiento) de las
amígdalas y/o adenoides. Es conveniente
establecer un buen diagnóstico para
proceder con un correcto tratamiento.

children is hypertrophy (enlargement) of

treatment.

Constituida el 12 de diciembre del
año 1960 como Clínica Maternal e
Infantil Vistahermosa, e inaugurada
en noviembre de 1963 como CLÍNICA
VISTAHERMOSA fue un proyecto
liderado por un grupo de médicos,
fundamentalmente ginecólogos,
para dar respuesta al aumento de la
natalidad de los años 60. Es por ello que
el centro guarda un lugar muy especial
en el recuerdo de miles de alicantinos.
Set up on 12th December 1960 as
Maternal and Child Vistahermosa
Clinic, and opened in November
1963 as VISTAHERMOSA CLINIC was
a project led by a group of doctors,
mainly gynecologists, to respond to the
increased birth rate in the 60s. That
is why the center holds a very special
place in the memories of thousands of
people from Alicante.

La Clínica Vistahermosa es más que un
centro sanitario para muchos alicantinos
y alicantinas. Es un lugar al que tienen
un gran cariño ya que fue allí donde
nacieron o dieron a luz a sus hijos e hijas.
Este sentimiento común se ve reflejado
en una campaña de comunicación bajo el
título “Yo nací ahí” y que el usuario puede
seguir en la web

La clínica fue diseñada por el arquitecto
D. Juan Antonio García Solera, entre cuyas
obras podemos destacar el complejo
Vistahermosa o más recientemente el
Auditorio de la Diputación de Alicante.
Solera concibió la clínica como un “nítido
prisma que, aunque de pequeña escala,
destacó en la arquitectura alicantina

Juan Antonio García Solera, whose works
are the complex Vistahermosa or more
recently the Auditorium of the Alicante
Provincial Council. Solera conceived the
clinic as “a clear prism that, although in

por la coherencia de su lenguaje”.
Una arriesgada apuesta por una
nueva arquitectura alejada de los
planteamientos de la época. El edificio
demostró una gran soltura en el diseño
de escala media en los que el usuario
llegaba a sentirse “como en casa”· pese
al uso público.
Este planteamiento fue básico a la hora
de realizar la remodelación en los años
90. A cargo de D. Enrique Bardají Álvarez,
D. Francisco Ramón-Borja Badías y D.
Luis Guillén Barona, la clínica queda
finalmente compuesta por 6 plantas:
plantas inferior, baja, primera, segunda,
tercera y cuarta.

medium scale design in which the user
came to feel “at home” despite the
public using it.

This approach was essential when
making remodeling in the 90s. Mr.
Enrique Bardají Alvarez, Mr. Francisco
Ramón-Borja Badías and Mr. Luis Guillén
Barona were in charge and the clinic
was finally composed of 6 floors: lower
floors, ground, first, second, third and
fourth.

Las obras de ampliación supusieron un
incremento de 3850 m2 sobre el total de la
superficie construida pasando de tener
66 habitaciones a 96 hábiles. A pesar
de la ampliación, sigue conservando el
espíritu acogedor y la cercanía por su
atención personalizada superando la
prueba más difícil: mantener altos los
niveles de fidelidad.
Es evidente que la Clínica Vistahermosa
ha sabido adaptarse a cada etapa en
estos 50 años de vida, sobre todo desde
que la compañía aseguradora ASISA se
hizo cargo de su gestión en el año 1989.
Ese mismo año comienza el proceso de
modernización y de cambio de imagen
para pasar de “clínica maternal” a un
gran complejo hospitalario. Proceso
que finaliza 12 años después.
Entre los cambios podemos mencionar
una
mejor
dotación
tecnológica
orientada a la innovación, creación
de áreas de especialización, unidades
específicas con equipos integrados,
incremento de la capacidad hospitalaria
o convenios de colaboración con
entidades y programas de formación e
investigación, entre otros muchos. Todo
ello con un objetivo claro: convertir a la
Clínica Vistahermosa en un referente de
medicina de calidad para la provincia y
alrededores.
Expansion works represented an

began to move from being “a maternity
clinic” to becoming a large hospital. The

Among the changes we can mention

technological
equipment
oriented to innovation, creation of
areas of expertise, specific units with
integrated teams, increased hospital
capacity or collaboration agreements
with organizations and training and
research programs, among many
others. All this with a clear objective: to
make Vistahermosa Clinic a benchmark
for quality medicine for the province
and surroundings.

Dentro de su marcado ámbito de
asistencia maternal, constituyó un hito
histórico de relevancia la firma del
Convenio de Diálisis con la Seguridad
Social en 1979.
Su imagen era la de un hospital privado
Materno-Infantil y se desconocía el
resto de servicios que ofertaba. Hasta
ese momento el centro estaba dirigido
por inversores particulares y el trabajo
lo realizaba la orden religiosa “Siervas
de Jesús”.

Within its maternal care marked scope,
the signing of the Dialysis agreement
with the Spanish Social Security in 1979
was an important milestone.
Its image was of a private MaternalChild hospital and the other services
offered were unknown. Until that time
the center was run by private investors
and the work was done by the religious
order “Servants of Jesus”.

Ya en el año 2000 comenzaron a
funcionar unidades de referencia que
se han expandido a lo largo y ancho de
toda la geografía española: Oftalvist,
Unidad de Reproducción Asistida y en el
año 2002 Traumatología.

Parking subterráneo.

In 2000 some reference units, already
expanded throughout the whole of Spain,
began operating: Oftalvist, Assisted
Reproduction Unit and Traumatology in
2002.
In 2003, the new complex was inaugurated
with renovated and innovative areas
such as operating rooms, Intensive
Care Unit, Haemodialysis service, Nests,
Radiology, Pharmacy, Cafe, Restaurant
or underground parking.

En el 2005 se amplía toda la zona de
consultas externas y urgencias con
servicio 24 horas de Urgencias Médicas
y Pediatría, incluyendo laboratorio y
Anatomía Patológica.
Al comenzar 2010 las consultas
externas crecen exponencialmente
y el hospital comienza a quedarse
pequeño. Por ello, se decide buscar
otro enclave donde ubicarlas. De
esta manera nace Vistahermosa76,
un edificio de especialidades muy
cerca del hospital donde atender a los
pacientes en primera persona con unas
instalaciones modernas, espaciosas y
dedicadas íntegramente a las consultas
ambulatorias.

and emergency with a 24-hours Medical
and Pediatric service were expanded,
including laboratory and Pathology.
At the start of 2010 the outpatient
visits grew exponentially and the
hospital started being too small.
Therefore, it was decided to look for
another location where to place them.
Thus Vistahermosa76 was born, a
specialtized building near the hospital
where patients are met in person with
modern and spacious facilities and fully
dedicated to outpatient visits.

Tras muchos años de inversión
ininterrumpida, la Clínica Vistahermosa
es, hoy por hoy, la clínica de vanguardia
de la Costa Blanca.
La Clínica Vistahermosa ha venido
desarrollando desde el año 2001 una
política de cambio y modernización
mediante el desarrollo de un sistema
de gestión de la calidad centrado en
una certificación mediante la Norma
ISO 9001:2000, que en una primera
fase abarcó el proceso de admisión y
hospitalización del paciente, así como el
laboratorio de la clínica.
Posteriormente, se certificó el área
de Nefrología, tanto en Clínica
Vistahermosa, como en las instalaciones
en Dénia (Clínica San Carlos).
En el año 2.004 se certificó la unidad
de Reproducción Asistida, con la misma
norma ISO y la Unidad de Genética.
Actualmente el centro posee una nueva
certificación en control medioambiental
con la norma ISO 14.001
El objeto último de estas iniciativas es
prestar una asistencia de la más alta
calidad en todas sus dimensiones a
los pacientes de la clínica y dotar a la
organización de los mecanismos más
adecuados para que profesionales que
desarrollan su trabajo en la misma se
sientan plenamente satisfechos.

Vistahermosa Clinic has been developing
