JOIN ST. ANDREW PARISH IN SERVING HOMELESS FAMILIES!
Beginning March 2016, our parish will have an opportunity to follow Jesus by
serving the poor and vulnerable in a practical way. We will be partnering with
the Family Promise program to provide temporary housing and other assistance
to homeless families in our local region.

WHAT IS FAMILY PROMISE?
There are 178 Family Promise affiliates in 41 states across the country. Family
Promise’s mission is “to help homeless children by assisting their families to stay
intact and to regain stable housing and employment within a supportive, volunteer-driven community.” Family Promise holds dear the core values of hospitality, empowerment, compassion, mobilizing communities, and hope.
OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO SERVE TOGETHER
This is a great opportunity for us as parishioners to serve together. It’s a wonderful way for our families to participate in ministry, instilling in our children the
care and respect that God has for the poor and vulnerable. We are also asking
that different parish ministries sponsor a day on which to provide meals and
other materials or services for the families who will be staying with us. This is a
chance to exercise any gifts or talents you might have for the benefit of neighbors
who are trying to transition out of a difficult situation.
If you’re interested in helping, please come to one of the upcoming meet and
greet sessions Thursday, November 12th at 7:00 PM or Sunday, November 15th
at 10:45 AM at the St. Andrew School Social Hall.

UPCOMING ST. ANDREW PARISH PROJECTS
CHURCH DOORS:
Fr. Paul Sustayta, our Pastor, recently met with a representative
from Morisset Construction to evaluate the condition of all of
our church doors. Some have wood rot, others need new hardware and some do not close properly. An estimate on the work
will be sent to Fr. Paul within a couple of weeks. Thank you for
your patience and we will keep you posted.
WHY HAVEN’T YOU HEARD OUR TOWER BELLS RING?
The Bell Tower is currently under maintenance and the scope of
the work is currently being assessed. It has come to our attention that pigeons and other fowl are currently roosting up in our
beautiful tower. We need to address this issue with screens and
other preventative measures before an investment is made on
the chimes. In order to preserve our beautiful chime system, we
need to carefully select a vendor which will take care and pride
in our treasure. We hope to complete this work in the near future
and we thank you for your patience as we move forward on this
endeavor and repair our beloved bell tower.
BATHROOMS
We will be replacing all the toilets from both the men and women’s restrooms in the church within the next month. We hope that
our advances into bettering our church create a much healthier
and satisfactory environment to all who visit.

them body safety rules and steps they can take to ensure their
own safety. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles currently offers
age-appropriate prevention programs for children by VIRTUS®.
All of the programs encourage parent involvement in reinforcing
what their children learn by providing parent information and
materials so that parents may fulfill their role as the “primary

“CELEBRATING YOUNG ADULTS IN MINISTRY”
November 14, 2015 marks the 19th annual “Celebrating Young
Adults in Ministry,” an event which recognizes the contributions that young adults make to the life of our local faith communities. This year our parish has chosen to honor: Jonathan
Hembree, Yuritzi Vargas, Griselda Saucedo, and Irma Gallegos.
The “Celebrating Young Adults in Ministry” Recognition Mass
is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Cathedral
of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles. The celebration begins promptly at 5:30PM. Archbishop Jose H. Gomez will preside at the Eucharistic Celebration. All are welcome to attend.

Parent’s Corner: More on what your teen is learning in One8 Confirmation!
Year 1: This month we talked about the existence of God and the implication this has on our lives. Teenagers will likely have a discussion with someone who does not believe in God or who challenges their
belief in God at sometime during high school. This month we began to give teenagers some practical
reasons why there is a Creator, and that Creator is God. We also challenged them to make an important
distinction; we challenged them to ask if they just believed there was a God or if they believed in God.
Belief in God requires trust and self-surrender, whereas belief that there is a God, doesn’t necessarily
require our response. Teens discussed how they lived their lives currently, and struggles they faced with
living a life trusting completely in God. The question of how fully we believe in God is an important
one, and is worthy of further discussion after this session. Some questions you can ask to continue this
discussion with your son or daughter are:
•Have you ever been in a discussion with someone about the existence of God? What happened?
• If someone were to ask you why you believed in God, what would you tell him or her?
This is a great time to share reasons why you believe in God and some of your faith experiences with your
son or daughter.
Year 2: This month we discussed the importance of the Nicene Creed in our Catholic faith. This statement of Truths was formulated to combat heresy (incorrect teaching) within the Church. All of us have
beliefs we hold to be true; the Creed gives us the measure by which we must formulate our beliefs. Over
the centuries, many people have defended the beliefs we profess in the Nicene Creed and even died for
them. We challenged the candidates to understand that they will be strengthening their commitment to
defend their Catholic faith when they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Take some time to process
this session with your son or daughter. Some questions to begin your discussion are:
• Why is it important to have a Creed? How does it help our Church?
• What are practical ways that you can defend our Catholic faith in your life?
• What challenges are there to defending our faith? How can we overcome them?

OUR SECOND LIFE NIGHT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
More than 45 high school teens came to join our Halloween themed night, “Lights Out!” We played
blacklight-dodgeball, enjoyed pizza, and had a lot of fun! Thank you to everyone who came and joined
in on the fun!

A partir de Marzo 2016, nuestra parroquia tendrá la oportunidad de servir a si como Jesús sirvió a los pobres y vulnerables.
Vamos a asociarnos con el programa Family Promise para proporcionar alojamiento temporal y otro tipo de asistencia a las
familias sin hogar en nuestra región local.
¿QUÉ ES LA PROMESA DE LA FAMILIA?
Hay 178 afiliados a Family Promise en 41 estados de todo el
país. La misión de este ministerio es “ayudar a los niños sin hogar y a sus familias a permanecer intactas mientras recuperan
una vivienda estable y un empleo dentro de una comunidad de
apoyo, totalmente dirigida por voluntarios.” Family Promise
tiene muy centrados los valores fundamentales de la hospitalidad, de empoderamiento, compasión, movilización de las comunidades, y la esperanza.
UNA OPORTUNIDAD PARA SERVIR JUNTOS
Esta es una gran oportunidad para nosotros, como feligreses
para servir juntos. Es una manera maravillosa para nuestras familias participen en el ministerio, inculcando en nuestros niños
el cuidado y respeto que Dios tiene para los pobres y vulnerables. También estamos pidiendo que los diferentes ministerios
parroquiales patrocinen un día donde puedan dar comida y
otros materiales o servicios para las familias que se alojen con
nosotros. Esta es una oportunidad para ejercer cualquier regalo

Nuestro Párroco el padre Paul Sustayta, recientemente se reunió con un representante de Morisset Construcción para

tienen la pudrimiento de madera, otros necesitan nuevas herradura y algunas no cierran correctamente. Una estimación
sobre el trabajo será enviado al P. Pablo dentro de un par de

NUESTRAS CAMPANAS?
Nuestra torre de campanas se encuentra actualmente en mantenimiento. Esperamos que los avances de restaurarlas sean
completados muy pronto. Les damos las gracias por su paciencia mientras tratamos de reparar todas las necesidades de
nuestra parroquia.

Estaremos reemplazando todos los toilets de los baños de

DE JÓVENESRINCÓN DE LOS PADRES

AÑO 1: Este mes hablamos de la existencia de Dios y la implicación que esto tiene en nuestras vidas. Los adolescentes tendrán probablemente
una discusión con alguien que no cree en Dios o que desafía la creencia en Dios en algún momento durante la escuela secundaria. Este mes comenzamos a darles a nuestros adolescentes algunas razones prácticas por las cuales hay un Creador, y que Dios el Creador. También los desafiamos a
hacer una distinción importante; a preguntar si simplemente creían que había un Dios, o si creían en Dios. La creencia en Dios requiere confianza
y entrega completa, mientras que la creencia de que hay un Dios no requiere necesariamente nuestra respuesta. Los adolescentes discutieron cómo
viven sus vidas en el presente, y las luchas que enfrentan a una vida confiando completamente en Dios. La pregunta de cómo creemos plenamente
en Dios es muy importante, y es digna de una discusión después de esta clase. Algunas preguntas que puede utilizar para continuar esta discusión
con su hijo o hija son:
• ¿Alguna vez has estado en una discusión con alguien acerca de la existencia de Dios? ¿Que pasó?
• Si alguien le preguntara por qué usted cree en Dios, ¿qué le dijera?
Este es un buen momento para compartir razones por las que cree en Dios, y un poco de su fe experimenta con su hijo o hija.
AÑO 2: Este mes hablamos de la importancia del Credo de Nicea en nuestra fe católica. Esta declaración de Verdades fue formulada para combatir la herejía (enseñanza incorrecta) dentro de la Iglesia. Todos tenemos creencias que creemos ser verdaderas; el Credo nos da el ejemplo de cual
podamos formar nuestras creencias. A través de los siglos, muchas personas han defendido las creencias que profesamos en el Credo de Nicea e incluso an muerto por ellas. Desafiamos a los candidatos a entender que ellos serán fortalecidos en su entendimiento de la fe católica cuando reciben el
Sacramento de la Confirmación. Tómese su tiempo para entender esta sesión con su hijo o hija. Algunas preguntas para comenzar su discusión son:
• ¿Por qué es importante tener un credo? ¿Cómo ayuda a nuestra Iglesia?
• ¿Como defendieran su fe católica con formas practicas en sus vidas?
• ¿A qué retos hay en defender nuestra fe? ¿Cómo podemos superarlos?

“NOCHE DE VIDA”
Nuestra segunda noche de “Noche de Vida” era un gran éxito! Más de 45 adolescentes de secundaria vinieron a acompañarnos para la dinámica
“Lights Out!” Jugamos dodgeball en luz negra, disfrutamos pizza, y tnos divertimos bastante! ¡Gracias a todos los que vinieron y se unieron a la
diversión!

Nuestro próximo evento de “Life Teen” será el sábado 7 de noviembre, para la noche de inspiración en Six Flags! Este evento está abierto a todos los

VENTA GUADALUPANA
El grupo Guadalupano estará ofreciendo su venta de cada mes el
domingo 15 de noviembre de 7:30AM – 4:00PM en el Auditorio de
la escuela San Andrés. Vengan y disfruten mientras apoyan a nuestra parroquia!
“CELEBRACIÓN ANUAL DE JÓVENES
ADULTOS EN MINISTERIOS”
Este 14 de noviembre del 2014 marcará la decimonovena “Celebración Anual de Jóvenes Adultos en Ministerios” en la cual se honra a los participantes en este ministerio. Este es un acontecimiento
que reconoce las contribuciones que Los Jóvenes Adultos hacen a la
vida de nuestras comunidades locales de fe. Este año nuestra parroqui ha elegido a: Jonathan Hembree, Yuritzi Vargas, Griselda Saucedo y Irma Gallegos. El “Reconocimiento a Los Jovenes Adultos en
Ministerios” esta programado para el dia Sabado 14 de noviembre
del 2015 en la Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Los Angeles. La celebración comenzara puntualmente a las 5:30pm. El Arzobispo Jose
Gomez presidirá esta Celebracion Eucaristica. Todos los que quieren asistir serán bienvenidos.
EL MINISTERIO DE LA DIVINA MISERICORDIA
Les invita al CENÁCULO de la misericordia. Venga y hágase parte
de este apostolado, puesto que Jesucristo quiere que este mensaje se
difunda por todo el mundo comenzando en las parroquias, aquí el
señor le espera con los brazos abiertos para que conozca de su amor
misericordioso y a conocer a los demás. Estamos en nuestro nuevo
sitio, la Capilla del Centro Pastoral todos los jueves de 6:00pm a

MINISTERIO DE ADULTOS
JÓVENES DE SAN ANDRÉS
El Ministerio de Adultos Jóvenes (en Inglés) sigue con su
estudio de la Biblia cada miércoles a las 7:30 p.m. en el
Centro Pastoral. Hablamos y reflexionamos sobre las lecturas para este domingo próximo y tenemos una cena de
potluck después. Por favor entre a través de la puerta lateral.
EL PROGRAMA RCIA
Para todos los adultos interesados en convertirse a un
Católico o para aquellos de ustedes que necesitan completar sus sacramentos. El programa RICA ya ha comenzado.
Las clases de Español son todos los Domingos a las 9:30 de
la mañana en la escuela de St. Andrew.

UNA hora a Jesús Sacramentado, cada Primer Viernes, de
9:00 p.m. a las de 7:00 a.m. del sábado. ¡La invitación es
