Sir Robert Malpas Scholarship in Engineering, Science and Technology
Dear parents,
The prestigious “Sir Robert Malpas Scholarship” was established by the “Fundación Educacional San Jorge” in 2003. It was made
possible thanks to a commitment made by an Old Georgian, Sir Robert Malpas (’41-’44, Agar House) to the Fundación to maintain
a scholarship fund. The scholarship is open to current and new students entering Secondary 5 at St George’s College and St
George’s College North in 2016 and who will study at least two IB science subjects leading to careers in the areas of Engineering,
Science and Technology listed below. Mathematics must be studied at a level higher than Studies.
The following list of careers serves merely as a guideline, so if you have any questions, please call the school:
- Engineering: Civil; Food; Electrical & Electronic; Industrial; Mechanical; Naval Chemical; Telecommunication;
Aeronautical.
- Mining; Physics; Chemistry; Mathematics; Statistics; Computer Science
There are two scholarships, one for each school. It is one of the highest academic awards made by the College and the student who
achieves this distinction will be described as a Scholar in the records of the School. The Scholarship represents a discount of 25%
of school fees for a period of two years. The award of the Scholarship is reviewed annually and may be withdrawn if the student
does not maintain their level of academic performance.
The winner will be the student who obtains outstanding grades in a specially prepared examination. The examination consists of
questions on Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Information Technology.
The examination will take place on Friday 9 October 2015 in the College. Students who have demonstrated an interest and ability
in the science subjects at the College have been individually invited to sit for the scholarship. Although your child has not been
invited specifically they may sit for the examination if they are considering the careers outlined above. If you would like to sit for
the examination please confirm that by contacting myself by 4.30 pm on Friday 2 October 2015 either by e-mail
([email protected]) or by letter.
On the day of the examination all candidates should attend school in their blazer. The successful candidate will be informed of the
award of the Scholarship by letter and a public announcement of the award will follow at Speech Day on 10 December 2015.

Beca Sir Robert Malpas en Ingeniería, Ciencias y Tecnología
Estimados Padres:
La prestigiosa “Beca Sir Robert Malpas” fue establecida por la “Fundación Educacional San Jorge” en el año 2003. Se ha hecho
posible gracias al compromiso asumido por un Old Georgian, Sir Robert Malpas (1941-1944, Agar House), para con la
Fundación, con el propósito de mantener un fondo para becas. La beca está abierta a los alumnos actuales y a aquellos que
ingresen a ES 5 de St. George’s College y St. George’s College North en el año 2016, quienes deberán tener previsto estudiar dos
ciencias del IB que conduzcan a las carreras en Ingeniería, Ciencias y Tecnología, que se mencionan abajo, y planear cursar
estudios universitarios en uno de estos campos. Matemática se deberá cursar a un nivel superior al de “Estudios Matemáticos”.
La lista de carreras universitarias que figura a continuación es simplemente enunciativa y en caso de duda es importante que
consulten al colegio:
- Ingeniería: Civil; en Alimentos; Eléctrica y Electrónica; Industrial; Mecánica; Naval Química; en Telecomunicaciones;
Aeronáutica
- Minería, Química; Física; Matemáticas; Estadísticas, Informática
Se otorgarán dos becas, una para cada sede. Es el más alto honor académico que St.George’s College confiere y el estudiante
favorecido figurará como “Scholar” en los registros del Colegio. La beca representa un descuento del 25% en los aranceles
educativos y cubre un período de dos años, se revé cada año y puede ser retirada en el caso del alumno que no mantiene su
nivel de desempeño académico.
Resultará ganador quien obtenga calificaciones sobresalientes en un examen especialmente preparado para esta beca. El
mismo consta de preguntas referidas a Biología, Química, Física y Tecnología Informática.
El examen tendrá lugar el viernes 9 de octubre de 2015 en el colegio. Los alumnos que han demostrado especial interés y
habilidad en materias de la rama de las ciencias han sido invitados a rendirlo Si bien su hijo/a no ha sido específicamente
invitado, podrá rendir el examen en caso de que esté considerando seguir alguna de las carreras mencionadas. Si ustedes así lo
desean, les rogamos confirmar su intención enviándome un email ([email protected]) o una carta, antes de las 16.30
del día viernes 2 de octubre de 2015.
El día del examen todos los candidatos deberán asistir al Colegio vistiendo el uniforme con blazer. Quien haya obtenido la beca
será informado por carta y su nombre se anunciará públicamente durante la ceremonia de Speech Day el día 10 de diciembre
de 2015.
