Parents and Guardians at MLK,
We wanted to make you aware of an incident that took place today. At approximately 11:57, three non-MLK teens
stepped onto campus and loitered for 10-12 minutes. Once identified that they were not in fact MLK students, the
Principal approached the students and asked them to leave the campus. At approximately 1P.M., two of the teens
return to campus and continue to loiter. At this time, MLK’s Security Resource Officer approaches the teens and asks
them to leave. One of the teens refuses the SRO’s instruction and his resistance led to physical activity between the
teen and the SRO. The teen continued to resist as the SRO attempted to restrain them. During the altercation, the teen
lost and regained consciousness.
Once the teen was restrained, additional Denver Police arrived for backup and an ambulance was called as a
precautionary measure for the teen.
Safety is a top priority at Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College. We have a Security Resource Officer on site to ensure and
reinforce that our students are safe especially to any potential external threats. Our students are aware that if they are
non-compliant with authorities that physical force may take place.
The Denver Police Department will continue investigation of this situation further and the necessary disciplinary actions
regarding laws broken will be handled with the authorities.
We are in crucial times where we are losing our precious youth in confrontation situations with authorities. We want to
encourage continued communication between parents and your children about how to properly deal with authorities
and reminding them how to prevent a situation from potentially escalating to where everyone’s safety may be
compromised.

Padres y tutores de MLK,
Queríamos hacerle consciente de un incidente que tuvo lugar hoy. Aproximadamente a las 11:57AM, tres adolescentes,
no de MLK, estuvieron en campus y merodeando por 10-12 minutos. Cuando fueron identificados que no eran
estudiantes de MLK, la directora se acercó a los estudiantes y les pidió que se fueran de campus. Aproximadamente a las
1PM, dos de los adolescentes volvieron a la escuela y continuaron a merodear. En este momento, el Oficial de Recursos
de Seguridad de MLK se acerca a los adolescentes y les pide que se vaya. Uno de los adolescentes se niega la instrucción
de el SRO y su resistencia llevó a la actividad física entre el adolescente y el SRO. El adolescente continuó resistiéndose
mientras el SRO intentó detenerlo. Durante la altercación, el adolescente perdió y recuperó la conciencia .
Una vez que el adolescente fue restringido, Policía de Denver adicionales llegaron para apoyo y una ambulancia fue
llamada como medida de precaución para el adolescente.
La seguridad es una prioridad máxima en Martin Luther King, Jr. Early College. Tenemos un oficial de recursos de
seguridad en el sitio para asegurar y reforzar que nuestros estudiantes estén seguros, especialmente para las posibles
amenazas externas. Nuestros estudiantes son conscientes de que si no se cumple con las autoridades de que la fuerza
física puede tener lugar.
El Departamento de Policía de Denver continuará la investigación de esta situación más allá y las acciones disciplinarias
necesarias en relación con las leyes rotas serán tratadas con las autoridades.
Estamos en momentos cruciales en que estamos perdiendo nuestra juventud preciosa en situaciones de confrontación
con las autoridades. Queremos fomentar que la comunicación siga entre los padres y sus hijos acerca de cómo lidiar
adecuadamente con las autoridades y recordándoles cómo prevenir una situación de potencial escalada hacia donde la
seguridad de todos puede verse comprometida.
