August 27, 2014 -­‐ Back to School Night is tomorrow, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The schedule will be as follows: •

5:00 to 5:35 Meet and Greet All Teachers o K-­‐4: Cafetería o 5-­‐8: Playground Asphalt o 9-­‐12: Think Tank on HS side 5:45 to 6:15 1st Round of Classroom Circles 6:25 to 7:00 2nd Round of Classroom Circles Because of the focus on the relationship building of the adults that surround your child, -­‐ we ask you to not bring your children. If you must bring your children, they must be with you during the meetings, but we do not want students wandering the building for safety reasons. Thanks for all that you do as a parent and we look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night! September 1, 2014 – Labor Day Holiday – NO SCHOOL September 8, 2014 – First Crew Parent meeting , 6pm. Crew Parents are parent leaders that help create community and support the school. If you are interested in participating, come and join us! Childcare is provided. One example of the work Crew Parents accomplished last year, is that they planned and executed the Night Under the Stars fundraiser that raised $10,000 for our school! Contact Maritza Ortiz at 510-­‐562-­‐8225 for more information Library We invite and encourage students and families to take advantage of our open library hours every Monday between 3:30-­‐6:00. This is a great way to make reading fun for the whole family and support your students to be successful scholars! The first day of the program will be Monday, 9/1/14. As usual, the library is also available to students and families every morning between 8:00-­‐8:30. We hope to see you there! After School Program The first day of After School Program (ASP) for grades 1st through 12th was on Monday, Aug 25th and for Kindergarten students, the first day is on Monday, September 8th. We are excited to begin a new year of engaging students in community activities, enrichment classes and homework support. All families that have applied for the ASP received notice this week, via mail, of whether your child was accepted or not. (NOTE: The High School ASP is available to all High School students on a drop in basis. The acceptance form is not necessary for students in grades 9-­‐12) If your child has not been accepted into ASP, their name has been placed on a waiting list. If a space becomes available, we will contact families directly to inquire about enrollment. We are looking for materials of all kinds to support student making projects! Cardboard, paper, plastic, fabric, yarn, wood, paint, and more (new, used or scrap) are all welcome! Donations can be dropped off at the Creativity Lab (on the K-­‐8 side of the school below the library) from 8:00 to 8:30AM daily the week of September 8th. Arts, music, home language, physical education -­‐-­‐ these are not extras at Lighthouse, but part of a comprehensive, high-­‐
quality education. Thanks to you, our students are able to not only excel academically, but also to enrich their lives. If you supplied a credit card at the time of joining, it will be charged on a monthly basis. If you pledged to pay by cash or check, please return your pledge by the 5th of each month to the front desk or to the development office.
