3. LOS ADJETIVOS. A DJECTIVES
Existen distintos tipos de adjetivos, como veremos a continuación. En primer lugar, hablaremos
de los adjetivos calificativos. Esta clase de adjetivos nos dicen cómo es el nombre. Lo califican,
determinan y muestran la cualidad del sustantivo.
3.1. USO DE LOS ADJETIVOS. USES OF ADJECTIVES
•
Siempre va en singular: A nice picture - Nice pictures.
•
Se coloca siempre delante del sustantivo: A poor man.
•
ONE / ONES: Usa adjective + one / ones en lugar de adjective + noun.
Which bag do you prefer, the blue one or the red one?
¿Qué bolsa prefieres, la azul o la roja?
Which shoes are you going to buy? The cheap ones?
¿Qué zapatos te vas a comprar? ¿Los baratos?

Complemento del nombre: Es un sustantivo con función de adjetivo. Se utilizan las mismas
reglas que para los adjetivos. Cuando se trate de personas, debemos utilizar el genitivo sajón.

3.2. A DJETIVOS TERMINADOS EN –ED E –ING
Los adjetivos acabados en -ed hacen referencia a estados de ánimo y, por lo tanto, a personas:
I’m interested in American cinema
Estoy interesado en el cine americano
I’m excited about going on holiday
Estoy emocionado con las vacaciones
Los adjetivos acabados en -ing hacen referencia a los objetos (o personas) que producen un
estado de ánimo.
This is a very interesting book
Este es un libro interesante
Our holiday in Tanzania was exciting
Nuestras vacaciones en Tanzania fueron emocionantes
NOTA:
Los adjetivos acabados en -ing no deben confundirse con el participio presente que forma el
progresivo en inglés.
This is a tiring exercise (adjetivo)
Este es un ejercicio agotador
He is tiring everybody with his constant questions (presente continuo)

Se pueden colocar más de un adjetivo delante de un nombre, a menudo 2 y ocasionalmente 3.
