The playground is supervised by Vassar staff members at 8:25 a.m. Student may not be on
the playground before this time. All students will go to the back playground before school.

website. Students with a sack lunch can buy milk for $.75

Kids Connection Daycare at Vassar
Kids Connection Daycare provides before and after school care for Vassar students.
We have a summer program and are open for breaks and in-service days. We are
licensed by the state of Colorado and are employees of Aurora Public Schools.
Before School: 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. $7.25 per day
After School:
3:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. $9.25 per day

Knowing who is in the building maintains a safe environment. Staff
members are required to wear identification at all times. Visitors, parents
and volunteers are required to sign in at the front office and wear a visitor
pass. Parents who frequently come to the school to volunteer, must
register with Aurora Public Schools, Risk Management.

Vassar serves breakfast to students before
school from 8:25 to 8:45 a.m.
Students who ride the bus will arrive in time to eat breakfast
The cost is $1.10 cents and includes a ½ pint of milk.
Parents can fill out the Free/Reduced Lunch application in the office.
Students pay for breakfast and lunch out of
the same account.
Breakfast increases children’s ability to
focus and concentrate.

Who may check out students?
Students shall be released only to the person(s) designated on the student’s registration except
when the principal/designee has reasonable assurance that the release to a person is authorized
by the legal custodian or by a court order. Appropriate identification must be provided. Under no
other circumstance shall a person not listed be allowed to pick up a student. Students must
always be checked out through the school office.
PTO – Parent Teacher Organization
The PTO provides support to the school and community. In addition to fundraising for
field trips, assemblies, technology equipment, and classroom materials, the Vassar PTO
provides a forum for parent input and discussion. Meetings are held every other month.
Look for meeting dates on the school website and the Vassar newsletter.
Accountability Committee:
The Vassar Accountability Committee is a wonderful opportunity for parents to become
involved with their child’s educational program. Accountability committee members are
responsible for informing and advising the building administrators and staff regarding the
educational program, school budget and school goals. This committee serves as an
advisory group to the school and plays an integral part of the School Improvement
Plan. We cordially invite all parents and community members of all cultural backgrounds
to become a part of our Accountability Committee. Meetings are held every other month.
Friday Folders
Please remember to check your student’s Friday Folder. The Folder may contain
homework, student’s work, school information and flyers. This is also the teacher’s way
to send home important communication about the classroom and other information you
may need.
No Animals at School
Animals at school are restricted by board policy. Since we
cannot predict the behavior of animals around large
groups of children, we ask that you not bring animals on
school grounds.
CAFETERIA PROCEDURES
Money must be deposited in student lunch account before school in the cafeteria.









Beginning at 8:25 a.m., students may enter the cafeteria to deposit money.
Children may buy hot lunches or bring a cold lunch.
Milk may be purchased for students who bring cold lunch.
No bottles or cans are allowed in school lunches. Pop is not allowed.
Please let us know, in writing with a doctor note, of any food allergies
your child might have.
A computerized system keeps track of purchases.
You will be notified when your child needs more lunch money, (a stamp on
their hand means one more day left).
Parents are invited to eat in our cafeteria at any time. We do request that you make a lunch
reservation prior to 9:30 a.m. on the day you wish to visit.
Students will not be allowed to charge cafeteria purchases.

Vassar Dress Code
Dress code standards were developed by our staff and parent leaders. These standards help ensure a
safe, distraction-free learning environment for our students. We ask all parents to help their children
use good judgment in deciding what is appropriate school attire.
The following items are not allowed:
 Flip-flops. Sandals must have heel straps.
 Shorts, skirts, or skorts if they are not as long as the child’s fingertips reach.
 Tops or dresses with thin straps (spaghetti straps), halters or tube tops.
 Shirts and blouses must be long enough so that neither skin nor navel shows.
 Makeup, perfume, fingernail products, or hair products are to be used at home.
 Pants must be worn at the waistline (no sagging). Belts should be worn to keep pants up.
 Pants that are excessively baggy so as to interfere with safe movement are not allowed.
 Tank tops, sleeveless shirts, underwear type or shirts with wide arms.
 Any clothing with suggestive, offensive, violent language or pictures.
 Hats, baseball caps, scarves, bandanas, or “do rags” may not be worn inside.
 Hair may not be dyed an un-natural color.
 Excessive jewelry (anything very large or distracting).
 Clothing that does not adequately cover the body is not allowed.
The Staff at Vassar reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of student dress. Students in violation
of this dress code will be asked to call their parents for more appropriate clothing.
Parent Volunteer Procedures
To ensure that our volunteers enhance the safety, security, well-being and success of
our students, Risk Management is now registering all volunteers and providing them
with ID badges. In addition, a background check is performed on each volunteer who is
not a parent or legal guardian of a student in the school where he or she is
volunteering. Background checks will not be performed on parents who wish to
volunteer in their own child's school. If the volunteer is committing to only a one-time
event, he or she will simply need to register at the front office of the school or site.

Fill out the Volunteer Approval Request form and have it signed by the principal.
Complete a volunteer registration form, available in both English and Spanish.
Go to the Risk Management office to submit the registration and get an ID card.
Report to the front office at the school their child attends for scheduling and
assignment of duties.

TRUANCY (attendance/tardiness)
Students who miss more than 10 days (excused or unexcused) of school
are considered truant.
Vassar Elementary notifies parents in the first letter if attendance or tardiness becomes a
concern. At the second letter a meeting is requested with the Assistant Principal to come up
with a plan for the students/parents to help improve attendance/tardiness. If attendance
continues to be a concern, Social Services is called and/or we recommend the
parent/student attend a district CARB (Colorado Attendance Review Board) meeting
where a committee of members assist the parents in many ways to help students
improve on their attendance. If attendance/tardiness continues, the truancy is then reported
to the district lawyer and he/she will set up a court date. It is up to the discretion of the principal
or assistant principal to approve an absence. Just calling in the absence does not necessarily
mean a student is excused, especially if absences are excessive. Communication is the key. The
important issue is that our students are in school and learning.
BRINGING MEDICINE TO SCHOOL
Written permission from a parent and a
Doctor’s signature is required for all medication
given at school.

Vassar will have three scheduled class room parties during the school year.

Please do not bring whole cakes – only individual treats. All cupcakes, cookies or
treats brought to school must be store bought and not homemade.
Parents wishing to bring treats for their child’s birthday need to notify the teacher
the day before. Please no balloons or gifts for the birthday child. We appreciate
that you want the classroom to celebrate your child’s birthday, but we want to keep
any learning disruptions to a minimum.
What is ELD?
English Language Development - ELD classes help your child develop a solid foundation in
the English language. It is a block of time in your child’s day that students practice oral and
written language. Your child will be taught according to his or her needs in reading, writing,
speaking, and listening.
The 40 minutes of instruction provides extra practice with vocabulary, grammar and
developmentally appropriate sentence structures. Your child will be provided with individualized
instruction based on his or her language level. The small group environment gives him or her
safe place to learn language with other students who are also practicing at the same level.

Parents who drive their children to school will enter the parking lot loop and go around until they
get to the student pick-up/drop-off zone. The loop is a no parking area – parents please stay in your
car and keep moving forward. For your child’s safety, please have them exit or enter the vehicle on
the passenger side only. Proceed south and exit by turning right (west). School Bus and Daycare
Van parking will be in the front of the school. No U-turns allowed in front of the school or
school parking lot. You may not park in the staff parking lot to drop off or pick up your child.

the quarterly assembly.

PTO – Parent Teacher Organization
Organización de Padres y Maestros - El PTO presta apoyo a la escuela y la comunidad. Además
de recaudar fondos para excursiones, asambleas, equipos de tecnología y materiales de aula, el
PTO de Vassar proporciona un foro que los padres den su opinión y discusión. Las reuniones se
celebran cada dos meses. Busque las fechas en el sitio web de la escuela y el boletín de Vassar.
Comité de rendición de cuentas:
El Comité de rendición de cuentas de Vassar es una maravillosa oportunidad para que los padres
se involucren con el programa educativo de sus hijos. Los miembros del Comité de rendición de

Recuerde que debe revisar el folder de su hijo cada viernes. El folder puede
contener tareas, trabajos del alumno, información escolar y volantes. Esta es una
forma también del profesor de enviar comunicación importante a casa sobre el
aula y otra información que necesite.
No se permiten animales en la escuela
Animales en la escuela están restringidos por la
Directiva de la Junta directiva. No podemos predecir
el comportamiento de los animales alrededor de
grandes grupos de niños, pedimos no traer animales
al área de la escuela.
REGLAS DE LA CAFETERÍA
Para depositar dinero en la cuenta para un estudiante, se debe hacer antes de clases en
la cafetería.
A partir de las 8:25, los estudiantes pueden ingresar a la cafetería para depositar dinero.
 Los niños pueden comprar comidas calientes o traer un almuerzo frío.
 Puede comprar leche para los estudiantes que traigan almuerzo Frio.
 No botellas o latas en los almuerzos escolares. Las sodas no están permitidas.
 Por favor, háganos saber, por escrito con una nota del médico, de cualquier
alergia alimentaria que podría tener su hijo.
 Un sistema computarizado registra todas las compras.

Código de vestimenta de Vassar
Las normas del código de vestimenta fueron desarrolladas por nuestros dirigentes de personal y de los padres.
Estos estándares ayudan a garantizar un entorno de aprendizaje seguro, libre de distracción para nuestros
estudiantes. Pedimos a todos los padres para ayudar a sus hijos a utilizar el buen juicio para decidir lo que es
la indumentaria escolar adecuada.
No se permiten los siguientes elementos:
 Huaraches y Sandalias deben tener correas de talón.
 Pantalones cortos o faldas si no son tan largos como el alcance de la mano del niño.
 blusas o vestidos con tirantes delgados (correas de espagueti).
 Camisas y blusas deben ser lo suficientemente largos para que no muestre ni piel ni ombligo.
 Maquillaje, perfume, productos de uña o productos para el cabello que son para ser usados en casa.
 Se deberá llevar pantalones a la cintura (sin flacidez). Deben usarse cinturones para sostener pantalones.
 No se permiten pantalones que son excesivamente holgados para interferir con un desplazamiento seguro.
 Camisetas sin mangas, tipo de ropa interior o camisas con mangas amplias.
 Cualquier ropa con lenguaje sugerente, ofensivo, violento o imágenes.
 Sombreros, gorras, pañuelos, bufandas o "ropa hechiza" no puede ser usada..
 Cabello teñido de un color no-natural.
 Joyería excesiva (nada que distraiga o muy grandes).
 Ropa que no tape adecuadamente el cuerpo no está permitida.
El personal de Vassar se reserva el derecho de determinar la conveniencia del vestido del estudiante. A los estudiantes en
violación de este código de vestimenta se les llamara a sus padres para que usen una ropa apropiada.
Procedimientos de Padres Voluntarios
Para garantizar que nuestros voluntarios ayuden a mejorar la seguridad, bienestar y
éxito de nuestros alumnos, la administración de riesgos está registrando a todos los
voluntarios y les está proporcionando las acreditaciones. Además, se realiza una
comprobación de antecedentes sobre cada voluntario que no es un padre o tutor legal
de un estudiante en la escuela donde él o ella es voluntario. No se realizará controles
de antecedentes sobre los padres que deseen ser voluntario en la escuela de su hijo. Si
el voluntario está participando en un evento solo una vez, él o ella simplemente tendrá
que registrarse en la Oficina principal de la escuela o el sitio.
Para registrarse, padres voluntarios tendrán que:
1. llenar el formulario de solicitud de aprobación de voluntarios y tenerlo firmado
por el director.
2. Completar un formulario de registro voluntario, disponible en Inglés y Español.
3. Ir a la Oficina de manejo de riesgos para enviar el registro y obtener una tarjeta
de ID
4. Informar a la dirección de la escuela donde su hijo asiste.

Ausentismo escolar (asistencia y ausentismo)
Los estudiantes que falten más de 10 días (permitidos o no) de la escuela
se consideran un faltista.
Nuestra escuela notifica a los padres en la primera carta si la asistencia o tardanza se convierte
en un motivo de preocupación. En la segunda carta una reunión se solicita con la directora para
idear un plan para los estudiantes y padres para ayudar a mejorar la asistencia y tardanza. Si la
asistencia sigue siendo una preocupación, se llama a los servicios sociales y
recomendamos al estudiante de primaria asistir a una reunión de CARB (asistencia
Colorado Review Board) del distrito donde un Comité de miembros ayuda a los
padres en muchas formas para mejorar la asistencia de los estudiantes. Si continúan
las faltas/tardanzas, a continuación, se informa al abogado del distrito y se establecerá una
fecha de corte. Corresponde a la discreción del director para aprobar una ausencia. Llamar solo
en la ausencia no significa necesariamente que un estudiante se le permitió, especialmente si
son excesivas ausencias. La comunicación es la clave. Lo importante es que nuestros estudiantes
estén en la escuela y aprendiendo.
MEDICINA EN LA ESCUELA

Cumpleaños y fiestas en la escuela
Vassar tendrá tres fiestas en los salones programadas durante el año escolar.



Fiesta de invierno: 18 de diciembre
Fiesta de San Valentín: el 13 de febrero
Celebración de fin de año el 20 de mayo
Por favor no traigan pasteles: solo regalitos individuales. Todos los cupcakes, cookies o
golosinas que traiga a la escuela deben ser de tiendas no hechos en casa.
Los padres que deseen algo para el de cumpleaños de su hijo, deben notificar a la profesora
el día antes. Por favor no traiga globos o regalos para el niño que cumple años. Agradecemos
que desee celebrar el cumpleaños de su hijo en el salón, pero queremos mantener cualquier
interrupción del aprendizaje a un mínimo.
Que es ELD?
Desarrolló del idioma Ingles (ELD) es un programa que utiliza una parte del tiempo del
niño donde se practica el lenguaje oral y escrito. Las clases de ELD también ayudan a su hijo a
desarrollar una base solida del idioma Ingles. A su hijo se le ensenara de acuerdo a sus
necesidades en lectura escritura conversación y comprensión.
Cuáles son los beneficios de la enseñanza del ELD?
Los 40 minutos de enseñanza les da extra práctica con vocabulario, gramática y el desarrollo
apropiado de las estructuras de las oraciones. A su hijo se le dará enseñanza individual basada en
el nivel de conocimiento del idioma Ingles. Creando pequeños grupos de aprendizaje le dará la
manera de aprender el idioma con otros estudiantes que tienen el mismo nivel.

Dejar y recoger la zona - no hay ninguna zona de aparcamiento
Los padres que traigan o recojan a sus hijos de la escuela entrarán alrededor del estacionamiento y
esperaran ahí hasta que lleguen a la zona donde recogen o dejan al estudiante. Esta no es una zona
de estacionamiento: padres por favor permanezcan en su coche y sigan avanzando. Para seguridad
de su hijo, déjelos salir o entrar en el lado del pasajero solamente. Continúen hacia el sur y salgan
por la derecha (oeste). El estacionamiento de del autobús escolar estará al frente de la escuela.

en el estacionamiento de los empleados para dejar o recoger a su hijo.

responsabilizarse, siempre estar seguro, respetuoso).
Meta de reconocimiento para el estudiante:

250 estudiantes cada dos semanas
Cómo funciona:




Todo el personal reconocerá el comportamiento positivo de los estudiantes.
Una vez que los estudiante reciben un ticket se colocara en en el mural en la pared
enfrente de la dirección.
Cuando la cantidad de SOAR tickets está llena (aproximadamente 250 boletos) se
sorteará 6 nombres.
A continuación, se retiraran los tickets SOAR y se pondrán en un conteiner para la
Asamblea trimestral.
Cómo los padres pueden apoyar en casa:
• Preguntándole a su hijo que comparta lo que significa SOAR.
• Hable con su hijo sobre cómo se ve la mejoría en diversas áreas de la escuela (por
ejemplo: ¿cómo se mejora en la cafetería vs en el patio?)
• Pregúntele a su hijo si ha recibido un billete SOAR y por qué.

Permanecer sentados y para su propia protección sentarse hacia adelante. Las
distracciones de comportamiento ponen en peligro su seguridad y la de los demás.
Sólo utilizar la puerta para entrar o salir del autobús a menos que obtenga
instrucciones diferentes del conductor.
Hablar con voz baja. No utilice palabras GROSERAS.
Mantener las manos, cabeza y todos los objetos dentro del autobús y no bloquear
cualquier salida de emergencia.
Ser Cortés con sus compañeros y el conductor. Tratar a todos personas como le
gustaría ser tratado.
Cuidar el autobús y su equipo. NO PARTICIPAR EN VANDALISMO.
No encendedores, cerillos, petardos, tabaco, drogas o alcohol.
No alterar las puertas de emergencias, agarraderas o cualquier otro equipo del
autobús.
No se permiten artículos peligrosos, animales, artículos destruibles, instrumentos
grandes de banda musical, patinetas, lapiceros con láser, armas, etc.
EL CONDUCTOR DE AUTOBÚS ESCOLAR PUEDE ASIGNAR ASIENTOS.
PARA SU PROTECCIÓN SE PODRIAN UTILIZAR LAS SIGUIENTES MEDIDAS Y
DISPOSITIVOS DE SEGURIDAD EN EL AUTOBÚS: CÁMARAS DE VIDEO, PERROS
POLICÍA Y DETECTORES DE METALES.
NO PIERDA SUS PRIVILEGIOS DE VIAJAR EN EL AUTOBUS ESCOLAR. La mala
conducta puede resultar en prohibirle viajar en autobús de 1 A 60 días.
