Ramsey Memorial United Methodist Church 5900 Hull Street Road Richmond VA 23224 ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED Our Mission: “To Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World” Nuestra Misión: “Hacer Discípulos de Cristo para la Transformación Del Mundo” Non Profit Org. U. S. Postage PAID Richmond VA Permit No. 2045 Ramsey Memorial United Methodist Church 5900 Hull Street Road Richmond, VA 23224 804-276-4628 From the Pastor: Just These Lines My Friends… Thanksgiving Prayer Children of all ages enjoy the funny pages and holiday classics. In a Peanuts’ comic strip, Lucy’s feeling sorry for herself and she laments, “My life is a drag. I’m completely fed up. I’ve never felt so low in my life.” Her little brother Linus tries to console her and he says “Lucy, when you’re in a mood like this, you should try to think of things you have to be thankful for; in other words, count your blessings.” To that, Lucy says, “Ha! That’s a good one! I could count my blessings on one finger! I’ve never had anything and I never will have anything. I don’t get half the breaks that other people do. Nothing ever goes right for me! And you talk about counting blessings! You talk about being thankful! What do I have to be thankful for?” Linus says, “Well for one thing, you have a little brother who loves you.” With that, Lucy runs and hugs her little brother Linus as she cries tears of joy. And while she’s hugging him tightly, Linus says, “Every now and then, I say the right thing.” We are about to share in the national celebration of Thanksgiving. Soon we’ll worship into the holy season of Advent and Christmas. Perhaps more than any other season of the year, this is a time we ‘count our blessings.’ When we think of our blessings, we often focus on material, physical things: A nice warm house, more good food to eat than we need. Clothes in the latest fashion colors and techno gadgets with the most power. In all of these things, we neglect our most important blessings.- the personal, the spiritual. Our relationships with loved ones, our relationships with God and God’s community of faith are truly life’s most important blessings. I am thankful to be your Pastor & friend. Pastor Deb Gracious God, you who supply your people with every blessing in abundance, lift up our hearts in gratitude and thanksgiving this day. Help us, we pray, to thank you for the gifts we seldom notice, to praise you for the bounty we often take for granted, and to glorify your name for how you have watched over us through another year of seedtime and of harvest. For all that you have done, for that you are, and for all that you will ever do, we lift up our voices in praise to you. Hear our hearts- we ask it in Jesus’ name. Amen. Thanks for being there for me—I am truly blessed to be part of such a caring church family. In Christian Love, Betty Lou Brame -Sue Newman- Dear Ramsey Church, Many thanks to everyone for all of your phone calls, cards, e-mails and especially prayers after the passing of my father. We are so blessed to have a loving church family. This Advent Season we will be offering a study entitled “Under Wraps – The Gift We Never Expected”.
