If "more" equals better, the 13th edition of Art Basel Miami Beach and the surrounding art
week events may go down as the best ever. More new art fairs and just-to-see shows.
More record-breaking sales at Art Basel Miami Beach. More CEOs - from watchmakers
Hublot and Omega, luggage brand Rimowa, hotel companies Starwood and Marriott
opening luxury properties. And if not more - who can keep track? - then certainly plenty
of celebrities, including actors Leonardo DiCaprio, James Marden and Owen Wilson;
musicians Usher, Miley Cyrus, Russell Simmons and Joe Jonas; supermodel Heidi Klum
and the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt.
There was another kind of "more" as well - more spillovers, touch points and art for all
manner of South Floridians, from entrepreneurs to pre-teen fashion designers, stretching
from Pinecrest to Coconut Grove, Overtown to Fort Lauderdale.

If the aim is "to make art general," as Knight Foundation President Alberto IbargUen told
attendees Monday at the foundation's annual announcement of Knight Art Challenge
awards, this year's art week put South Florida well on its way. Proclaimed National
Endowment for the Arts chairman Jane Chu on a whiplash art tour to downtown, Miami
Beach and Opa-Iocka, "Art is entwined in Miami's DNA."
Even as the Perez Art Museum Miami celebrated its first year anniversary, a new permanent museum building for the Institute for Contemporary Art Miami was announced for the Design District. Overtown hosted its first Art Africa fair of works created by artists from the African Diaspora. Joining it on the list of first-year events are an impressive exhibition of monumental works in the vast Mana-Miami Wynwood space on NW 23rd Street and Pinta, a fair focusing on Latin American art that moved from New York to Midtown. The festivities reach far, far beyond the traditional art crowd. On the Mana campus, the
Savannah College of Art and Design is presenting "i feel ya," an exhibition that includes
jumpsuits designed by Andre 3000 for Outkast's reunion tour. The nearby ArtHaus tent is
surrounded by food trucks and a sound program where Beethoven is definitely not on the
playlist.
This year, more than a half-dozen student exhibits are on the art agenda. At FusionMIA,
student photographs hang near works by masters Rashid Johnson and AI Loving; all
were curated by Miami's N'Namdi Contemporary gallery. A few blocks north, at
Wynwood's House of Art, a dozen students ages 5 to 15 from the DesignLab program
showed off their creations at a Friday night "vernissage."
Among them was 13-year-old Yael Bloom, wearing a flounced party dress she made from
shrink wrap. No matter that the first-time event was a little-known spinoff. "Art Basel is
pretty hard for adults to get into," Bloom said. "For kids to get into it is very cooL"
As in years past, free events abound, from performances by Chinese artist Shen Wei at
Miami-Dade College and artist Theo Jansen's Strandbeest demonstrations on the sand to
official Art Basel events, including films on the New World Center Wallcast and the Art
Public sculptures in Collins Park. New is free Art Week shuttle service between Midtown
and Miami Beach - a government cooperative effort - that dovetails with trolley service
to art venues on both sides of Biscayne Bay.

Weapons of cllOice were beaches, super·high heels, dinners for everyone you have ever heard of, cocklail

Honestly, this show is unusual. The evening's V IP preview kicked up buzz th at vibrated throughout the week.
"It's a big day in the art market," noted Amy Cappellazzo, though she wasn't talking about Marino's show but

The subject of a New Yorker profile published last week, Obrislled Instagram-accented panels almost every

Some collectors were also dOing double-duty . I found William Bell trading stocks on his iPad while looking al

In fact, it was so homey around the bungalows that I was almost sad to depart for the Design Miami dinner
honoring Marino . Cocktails took place In the far-from·domestic, Marino-designed luxury mall developed by
Craig Robins. Christie's America chair Marc Porter denied he ever wanted Murphy's Job, while Florian Baier
and Nina Blscl10fberger described the new complex they're buitding to house Bruno Bischofbergers Immense
collection outside of Zurich
As dinner began at tables in the street. I raced to gated La Gorce island, where a Cuban band was playing at
Maria Baibakova 's housewarming for her fathers new Miami digs- a 1953 Spanish-style mansion once
owned by Cher. (Provenance I) This was an entirely pleasant affair, with a delicious buffet served under the
nearly full moon over Biscayne Bay. Speedboats returned guests to South Beach just in time for the Miley
Cyrus concert at Tommy Hitfigers Raleigh Hotel.
Those who didn't get the emait earlier in the day instnucting them to pick up wristbands in the lobby that
aftemoon stood in a crush at the door as the potty-mouthed, silver-wigged performer, working hard to
overcome her Child-star image and inhabit the role of-wait-an artist, began a set accompanied by the
Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, What can I say? He sounded great and she'll never be street. But the
crowd went wild, raising iPhones and iPads to the sky to capture the spectacte of silver co nfetti, a dancing
penis, and magic mushroom, presented by Jeffrey Deitch. "Your life will never be better than it is right now," I
heard one person in the crowd say as Cynus covered Led Zeppelin . Others were less adoring . "LCD Sound
System was mucl1 more exciting," one man commented, recalling a Deitch/Raleigh/Basel concert from the
past. "Irs fascinating. Here's this avant-garde visionary coming out of the mainstream:' said Deitcl1 , who
informed an inquisitor that he was "retired" from dealing art, After the crowd dispersed , he went to bed ,

Next morning brought VIPs to routine visits to Miami's publicly private collections. I opted for a Ruinart
sponsored, Public Art Fund brunch at the Shelbome feting artist Georgia Russell's special packaging for the
brand . II was the only proper breakfast I had all week, but I missed the lunch that the Argentine Faenas were
giving to announce the cultural center development they're building on Collins Avenue, centerpiece by Rem
Koolh aas (According to the Miami Herald's Alastair Gordon, Miami has no less than 280 new buildings in the
works, with many apartments starting al $10 million . What?)
I missed lunch because I was immersed in the NADA fair at the Deauville Hotel. which was as close as I
would get to a beacl1. NADA is like Williamsburg to ABMB 's Manhattan : hip, relaxed and scnuffy, and a little
too much . I reached my limit halfway through, though I wished Sergei Tcherepnin, voted the winner of the
Artadia/NADA Award by judges Massimiliano Gioni and Cecilia Alemani, had appeared at Lisa Overduin's
booth to give promised massages. I missed him because t went back to the Edition for a panel (moderated by
Obrist) that pitted singer (and Robert Pattinson squeeze) FKA Twigs against Alex tsrael. Immediately
afterward, Obrist appeared yet again at ABMB's Art Salon with Instagram's Kevin Systrom, auctioneer Simon
de Pury, artist Amatia Ulman, and MoMA PS1 director Klaus Biesenbach .
That night. I missed Daniel Arsham's opening at locust Projects, a cocktail on a yacht co-hosted by Deitcl1,
the preview of a Shen Wei exhibition at the Miami Dade College's Museum, the more underground
"Autobody" show, and probably dozens of other things-including Biesenbach's "Zero Tolerance : Miami" at
YoungArts, one exhibition that actually went in for prolest politics. Now my dance card was full, but I didn't
want packaged glamour. I didn't want fashion. I'd seen enough art. So I traded Aby Rosen 's dinner at the W
for the casual ESlher Schipper/Mendes Wood/Mehdi Chouakri/Meyer Riegger gallery dinner at Puerto Sagua,
where the Americans left earliest. the Brazilians arnved last. and Franco Noero never did eat his salad
Back in New York, I slept for three days.

Doral's stunning Our Lady of Guadalupe church) , perhaps the most important
detail is that the museum and two accompanying residential towers are intended
for a full block site on 5th Avenue & Biscayne Boulevard, between the
AmericanAirlines Arena, the Freedom Tower, and Miami Dade College.
The model provides a great sense of scale and more accurately depicts the
rather large ground level plaza-a true "public" plaza that would ideally activate
Biscayne Boulevard in a way no other building currently does (outdoor seating
for the museum cafe, permanent and rotating public art installations, and
hopefully more trees). -Intended for the site. The model also does a great job
of expressing the vertical screen system used throughout the building, which
seems to play with pattern density in order to control daylight, as well as views
from the exterior.
According to a video released by FR-EE, the museum itself is a play on the
compression of a single mass, and its subsequent expansion through terraces
that twist slightly at each level. The first level would house a museum shop and
cafe, as well as an exhibition space for young emerging artists. The second level
would house temporary exhibitions, and the permanent collections would be on
the third. A restaurant would be located on the fourth level overlooking Museum

15 Park, the arena, Bayfront Park, and Biscayne Bay beyond, assuming SkyRise
Miami doesn't block the view,
According to The Next Miami, the 90,000 SF museum is scheduled to open
sometime in 2016 at a cost of $50 million, with the 300-unit residential towers
following after (according to FR-EE, the lowers will have only 111 units, although
this is likely still in the early stages of planning, and 111 does seem like quite a
low number for two huge lowers), Aside from a few "this could be anywhere"
interior and balcony renderings, unfortunately there wasn't much information on
the towers (even the model is completely generic), Sketches senl in by a Curbed
reader, however, do appear 10 show how Ihe placement of the public plaza and
museum towards the slreet, with the towers set behind, would preserve the all
important vistas of the Freedom Tower next door.-Margina Demmer

DMN Newswire--2014-12-4
Sunnyvale, CA, December 4,2014-- Cogswell College, a leading educational instilution

Sadowski has been named Cogswell's "Entrepreneur in Residence," after Sadowski

Cogswell is one of only a handful of colleges and universities in the U.S offering an advanced degree
in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. With the addition of Sadowski to the school's faculty roster,
Cogswell becomes uniquely positioned to provide an immersive learning experience , by capitalizing on
his years of start-up experience and insight from having interviewed hundreds of entrepreneurs across
the United States.

Enrollmenl in Cogswell's Masters Degree program in Entrepreneurship & Innovation will be limited to a
cohort of 25 students for the Spring 2015 semester, beginning January 20. Interested prospective
students should call (855) 361-5930 or visit hltpllwww.cogswell.edu/entrepreneurship/masters.htmlto
apply , while space is still available.
The maiden voyage of this program began as a campus-based program during Fall 2012, with students
graduating in Spring 2014. Under Sadowski's leadership, the program will now be offered exclusively
online. "By offering this program online, it eliminates all borders and allows students from anywhere
around the world to participate in this truly one-of-a-kind Silicon Valley experience . These students will
then have the ability to apply this invaluable experience to their own ecosystems," Sadowski says.
Sadowski made national headlines during the summer of 2014, when he and two colleagues rode
bicycles from the west coast of Oregon to the east coast of Virginia to meet with and document the
stories of 100 entrepreneurs in 100 different U S cities. Much like Sadowski's cross-country tour,
Cogswell's MA program provides opportunities for students to cultivate and vet their own business

The Cogswell MA program has been developed to help students apply entrepreneurial principles and
innovative decision-making both in and outside of existing organizations. Many people dream of "firing"
their boss and owning their own thriving business. Others want to be more innovative and empowered
in their current line of work - or learn skills that will add value to their current employer. This program
allows for that flexibility in expanding each student's careers goals. A Cogswell MA Degree in
Entrepreneurship & Innovation, less costly than one might think, is designed to help students develop
the qualities and skill sets of successful entrepreneurs, and to directly apply those qualities and skills to
achieving their career aspirations.
[>
Said Dr. Snyder, "The Cogswell Master's Degree program in Entrepreneurship & Innovation is a truly
unique and highly interactive one. The program offers students the opportunity to learn and practice
concepts necessary to helping them accomplish their career dreams. It provides additional tools to the
graduate's professional tool kit. Our curriculum is designed to motivate students to go out into the 'field,'
meet and interview entrepreneurs from a variety of fields, and discover how entrepreneurs 'do what
they do' to make companies successful. In addition to approaching local entrepreneurs, developing
relationships, and learning by their example, students will also get a better understanding of how they,
themselves, fit into their entrepreneurial ecosystems. Ours is a soup-to-nuts program, one that is
certain to help our students plot the course to their own career destinies."

Long Live Freedom (Viva la liberta) LONG LIVE FREEDOM (Viva la liberta)
A film by Roberto And6
Cast : Toni Servillo, Vale rio Mastandrea, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi
Italy 12013194 min , 1Comedy, Drama 1Not Rated
Italian with English subtiUes
In this elegant and ch illing story about world politics, the great Toni Servillo defies expectations playing two roles, imbuing each character with brilliant nuance and astonishing
attention to detail. In the first, he personifies political failure in the role of the disgraced ideologue and party leader, Enrico Oliveri. In the second, he embodies the shrewd genius
of a madman as Oliveri 's unhinged twin brother who seizes control of the nation amidst the void of his brother's disappearance, As the national election approaches , Enrico
Olive ri has plummeted in the polls and his supporters and adversaries alike begin to acknowledge his impending downfall. Unwilling to face the failure of his party and his
nation , Oliveri vanishes into the night The party leadership tries to hedge for time by concealing Oliveri's disappearance with a series of acrobatic sidesteps, In a desperate
move, right hand man Andrea Bottini seeks out Oliveri's look-alike twin brother, Giovanni Ernani , a prolific author and philosopher who is freshly released from an insane
asyfum, Slowly and steadily, Giovanni insinuates himself into his brother's public persona , impersonating Oliveri 's every tick and mannerism exquisitely- yet slightly imperfectly,
Giovanni quickly surpasses his brother's political prowess with an eerie talent for rallying the masses through fearless and heroic speeches, As And6 shifts between the failure
of the sincere intellectual and the heroics of a madman , he probes the driving forces beh ind our contemporary global political reality leaving behind a rich web of questions in
this unpredictable and provocative thriller.
