¿Que es DreamCatchers?
DreamCatchers es un programa gratis, después de la escuela que da tutoría a todos estudiantes de ingreso bajo
quienes están en middle school en el distrito de Palo Alto. Estudiantes reciben ayuda con tarea y participan en
actividades diseñadas para mejorar la confidencia de su estudiante en la clase en la escuela, mejorar las rutinas de
estudios y las habilidades socio-emocional, y ensenar estudiantes sobre comida sana. Emparejamos cada de
nuestros estudiantes con un tutor privado quien es un estudiante de Stanford o unas de las escuelas de high
school locales. Estas parejas trabajan juntas durante todo el año para instilar en nuestros estudiantes una pasión
para aprender durante cual también mejoran en la escuela.
Trabajamos juntos con los maestros y consejeros de Palo Alto para que, con familias también, podremos
colaborar como un equipo para proveer apoyo individualmente personalizado para cada uno de nuestros
estudiantes.
¿Quién puede ser un DreamCatcher?
DreamCatchers es GRATIS para todos estudiantes de PAUSD quien cumplen con nuestros requisitos basados en
ingreso de familia. Creemos que todos los estudiantes de Palo Alto deben tener acceso a los recursos que
necesitan para lograr académicamente, a pesar del nivel de ingreso de su familia.
• Necesita ser un estudiante de middle school (grado 6-8) en Palo Alto Unified School District – Jordan, JLS, o
Terman
• Necesita ensenar prueba de nivel de ingreso (como papeles de Lunch Gratis, Medi-Cal, CalFresh, Palo Alto
Housing Corp, etc.)
• Deben poder cometer para todo el año y atender clase regularmente y tomar responsabilidad de su propio
aprendizaje
• Que esten teniendo dificultades en la escuela o que sean estudiantes perfectos, todos son bienvenidos
¿Como funciona el programa?
• Por todo el ano, cada estudiante esta pareado con un tutor individual de Stanford, Paly, Gunn, o Castilleja.
• Parejas de estudiante-tutor forman grupos de 15 parejas quienes están en la misma clase, dirigidas por
estudiantes de Stanford que se llaman Directores de Clase.
• Cada estudiante llega dos veces a la semana, por dos horas cada clase (Lun/Mier 4-6 o 6-8, Mar/Jue 4-6 o 6-8)
• El programa re encuentra en PALY, en el edificio de ciencias.
¿Quien dirije DreamCatchers?
Los Directores de Clase y los tutores son supervisados por el Director de Programa Miguel Fittoria. Miguel habla
español, nació y todavía vive en East Palo Alto, y atendió PAUSD cuando era joven y graduó del distrito. Él
trabaja con empleados de educación profesionales, incluyendo la Directora Ejecutiva Barbara Sih Klausner, quien
era una maestra de PAUSD, un especialista en matemática, y miembro de la mesa del distrito.

What is DreamCatchers?
DreamCatchers is a free, after-school tutoring and mentorship program open to all low-income middle school
students in PAUSD. Students receive homework help and participate in activities designed to increase
confidence in the classroom, hone study skills and social emotional learning skills, and improve healthy
behaviors. We match each middle school student with a one-on-one volunteer tutor who is a Stanford
undergraduate or local high school student. These student-tutor pairs work together for the entire year to instill
in our students a passion for learning while also increasing academic performance and building life skills.
We work closely with PAUSD teachers and counselors so that, together with parents, we can collaborate as a
team to provide customized support for each of our students. We also offer fun STEM and healthy foods
enrichment activities, presented by Stanford and high school student clubs and local professionals.
Who can be a DreamCatcher?
DreamCatchers is FREE to PAUSD students who meet our requirements based on household income level. We
believe that all students in the PAUSD system should have access to the resources they need to succeed
academically, regardless of their family’s income level.
• Must be a middle school student (6th-8th grade) in Palo Alto Unified School District – Jordan, JLS or Terman
• Must be able to show proof of income status (e.g., Free and Reduced Price Lunch, Medi-Cal, CalFresh, Palo
Alto Housing Corp residence, etc.).
• Must be willing to make a year-long commitment to attend regularly and take responsibility for learning.
• Whether struggling to stay organized with schoolwork or a straight A student, all are welcome.
How Does the Program Work?
• For the year, each student is paired with a specific individual Tutor from Stanford, Paly, Gunn or Castilleja.
• Student-Tutor pairs are grouped into classes of 15 pairs that are led by Stanford student leaders called
Classroom Directors.
• Each student attends twice a week, two hours per session (Mon/Wed 4-6 or 6-8pm; Tu/Th 4-6 or 6-8pm).
• The entire program meets at PALY, in the Science Building.
Who runs DreamCatchers?
Our Classroom Directors and Tutors are supervised by Program Director Miguel Fittoria. Miguel is Spanishspeaking, grew up in East Palo Alto and attended PAUSD. He works with a professional staff of educators,
including Executive Director Barbara Sih Klausner, who was a PAUSD classroom teacher, math curriculum
specialist and school board trustee.
