bebida extraída de los agaves azules que iluminan

Infinidad de términos se han acuñado para referirse
al tequila. La creencia popular entre los antiguos
jaliscienses era que éste simbolizaba un elemento
divino y de poder. De ahí surgieron títulos como
“almíbar de los dioses”, “mágico néctar” o “fino
elixir”. Incluso, en su historia se rinde cuenta del nivel
que lo caracterizó en cierta época al ser exclusivo de
aquellos que poseían altos rangos en las sociedades.
El tiempo y las circunstancias particulares de cada
periodo histórico se encargaron de hacer lo propio
para que “la bebida nacional” –como la llamó el
presidente Porfirio Díaz al término de la Revolución
Mexicana- actualmente sea accesible para todos.
Existen siete categorías (100% de agave, tequila,
blanco o plata, joven u oro, reposado, añejo y extra
añejo) listas para ser acompañadas con sal, limón y
sangrita, y así brindar al más puro estilo mexicano.
LA “COPA DE NARIz”
En el año 2002, el austriaco
Georg G. Riedel, heredero de
una tradición centenaria en la
fabricación de copas finas para
vinos, le hizo justicia al tequila
ideando una copa especial
para degustarlo. La “Copa de
Nariz”, como fue definida, mide
19 centímetros de altura, tiene
capacidad para 210 mililitros y
está hecha de cristal sin plomo.

facetas de la bebida y su aroma
de flores, hierbas y madera.

In 2002, Austrian Georg G.
Riedel, heir to a century of
tradition in the making of fine
wine glasses, created a special
tasting glass to honor tequila.
The “Riedel Tequila Glass,”
as it was defined, is 7.5 inches
high and it holds 210 milliliters,
and is made of unleaded glass.
The characteristics of the glass
allow the taster to discover the
different facets of the drink, and
its bouquet of flowers, herbs, and
wood.
A product of the cultural mix between the preHispanic inhabitants and the Spanish conquerors,
tequila has played a predominant role in the
formation of the national identity. This drink,
extracted from the blue agave plants that cover the
agave landscape (declared a World Heritage Site by
UNESCO on July 13, 2006,) has crossed borders,
seducing palates seeking strong flavors. In doing
so, tequila has given a unique meaning to Mexican
culture around the world.
There have been an endless number of terms used
to refer to tequila. The common belief among locals
in Jalisco in the past was that this drink symbolized
divinity and power. From this idea came such
terms as “nectar of the Gods,” “magic nectar,” and
“fine elixir.” Even looking back at the history of
tequila, we can see how it was once characterized
as something that only high-ranking members of
society could enjoy.
Time, and the specific circumstances that have
surrounded this drink in every period of history,
have served to make tequila the “national drink” (as
President Porfirio Diaz referred to it at the end of the
Mexican Revolution) currently accessible to all. There
are seven categories of tequila: 100% agave, tequila,
white or silver, gold or joven (young,) reposed,
aged, and extra aged. Every tequila is ready to be
accompanied by salt, lemon, and sangrita, so you can
raise your glass in true Mexican style.

ha trascendido a tal grado que no sólo se ha posicionado como símbolo de identidad mexicana, sino
como parte del patrimonio de la cultura universal.
En la actualidad, vistiendo impecables trajes de
charro con botonadura de oro y elegantes sombreros, a los mariachis se les puede ver en importantes
escenarios de todo el mundo entonando las coplas
de bravíos sones, jarabes y corridos, o ejecutando
composiciones musicales de un arte mayor, pero
sobre todo, llenando el ambiente de alegría y tradición mexicana. En Guadalajara, su presencia sigue
siendo cotidiana en los momentos importantes de
los tapatíos, pues no faltan para celebrar nacimientos o cumpleaños, amenizando folclóricos restaurantes, en románticas serenatas o hasta aliviando
decepciones amorosas. Eso sí, acompañados siempre de un buen tequila.

Among the manifestations of the Jalisco culture,
mariachi music is considered not only a symbol of
Mexican identity, but also a part of global cultural

sones, and traditional jarabes and corridos. They

Una charreada se desarrolla dentro
de un lienzo, terreno acondicionado
para que puedan competir dos o más
equipos de charros o únicamente
para exhibición. Portando sobrios y
elegantes trajes, cada jinete realiza
ejecuciones tan temerarias en las que
bien puede alcanzar el éxito como
encontrarse con la muerte: la Cala de
Caballo, la Terna en el Ruedo, y las
Manganas a Pie, entre otras, siendo
la más arriesgada el llamado Paso de
la Muerte, en la que un jinete salta de
un caballo manso a una yegua salvaje,
ambos en pleno galope.
A charreada takes place within a lienzo,
a keyhole shaped arena where two or
more teams of charros can compete or
simply give a demonstration. Wearing
serious and elegant suits, every rider
performs daring feats that can end in
triumph or in death. These include
the Cala de Caballo in which he
demonstrates his command of the horse.
In the Terna en el Ruedo, three riders
rope and tie a bull, and in Manganas a
Pie, a standing charro lassos a horse.
The most daring of all is the Paso de la
Muerte, in which a rider jumps from a
tame horse onto the bare back of a wild
mare at full gallop.

Forty minutes away from guadalajara, the first town to welcome

Cultural Cabañas, Jalisco suma tres distinciones de este tipo

After various years of seeking international recognition, the
Camino Real de Tierra Adentro was registered as a World
Heritage Site by UNESCo in August 2010. Along with the
Agave landscape (Paisaje Agavero) and Cabanas Cultural
Institute, this is the third World Heritage Site in the state of
Jalisco.

The entire route comprises 1,802 miles and covers a huge
part of Mexico, reaching to the south of the U.S.A. It is
categorized as one of the most extensive and ancient routes
of the Americas, also known as The Silver Trail or the Trail of
Santa Fe. It was plotted in the 16th century and, until now, 19
historic monuments of this period and of previous centuries
have been registered along the route — original cobblestone
paths and tracks, bridges, churches, missions and estates.
during the colonial era, this trail became the main means
of transporting silver, mercury and gricultural produce
cultivated in the north of the country towards Mexico City,
and also served to expand the evangelization of the New
World.
Tequila’s historical downtown, the bridge and the ExHacienda of Cienaga Mata of lagos de Moreno, other

EN El MUNICIPIo dE TEUCHITláN,
situado a una hora de guadalajara, se ubica
el sitio arqueológico los guachimontones, el
más importante y espectacular hallazgo de
esta naturaleza en el occidente mexicano.
Está considerado como el eslabón que revela
el alto desarrollo cultural alcanzado por la
denominada Cultura Teuchitlán hace más
de dos mil años y se caracteriza por sus
centros ceremoniales en forma de círculos
concéntricos, semejantes a grandes pasteles
de piedra y únicos en su tipo.
EQUINOCCIO DE PRIMAVERA
Cada año, un día antes del 21 de marzo,
llegan a los Guachimontones cientos
de personas vestidas de blanco para
recargar energías.

En el complejo arquitectónico se tienen
localizadas 10 pirámides, las cuales fueron
construidas por verdaderos arquitectos, de
acuerdo con los principios cosmológicos de
su cultura. la estelar es “la Iguana”, con 17
escalones, 10 metros de altura y 38.5 metros
de diámetro.
Antes de ingresar al lugar, se recomienda
visitar la Casa de la Cultura de la población,
ubicada en el Museo de Arqueología, en cuya
colección se encuentra un video documental
y donde además es posible contactar a guías
especializados. Esta ruta cultural integra
también los museos arqueológicos de los
vecinos pueblos de Ahualulco de Mercado y
Etzatlán.

guadalajara, lies the archeological site of
los guachimontones, the most important
and spectacular discovery of its kind in
western Mexico. This site is considered
the link which reveals the high level of
cultural progress achieved by the so-called
Teuchitlan people more than two thousand
years ago. Its great ceremonial structures
are formed by concentric circles, which
look like huge stone cakes, and are one of
a kind.
According to cosmological beliefs of the
time, the architectural collection consists
of ten pyramids, built by true architects.
The main attraction is la Iguana, which
has 17 steps, is 32.8 feet high and 126.3
feet in diameter.

hundreds of people dress up in white
clothes and go to Los Guachimontones to
