In this paper we will talk about the genesis of the RASE (Journal of Sociology of
Education Association: www.ase.es ) in the frame of the 12th previous conferences of
Sociology of education and the Sociology of Education Association; in this sense in a
context of institutionalization and demarcation in our country of and sociological
specific knowledge area. The RASE however begins with a clear vocation of scientific
journal and observes more than enough the most important criteria of quality and
academic rigour. We want to describe in this paper the way of proceeding the journal
has given itself in its five years of history. Besides we will tell about our proposal of
improving taking account the current academic evaluation culture. We want to take
advantage of the possibilities and potentialities of indexation, in a global context,
without losing our editorial mark of autonomous doing and our compromise with
political and social transformation in education. We will offer in this work the most
important issues and central ideas treated in these first years of our short history.
Besides we will describe our projects in short and medium term, and our target of
consolidation of RASE in the international area of educational research. We consider in
this sense the integration in a European network is an unbeatable chance.

What is the room devoted to articles from other linguistic spaces?
We usually publish in Spanish, although it is common to publish one or two paperss in
each number translated from another language (English, French, German) or directly
published in Portuguese, French or English.
