The Interrogative Cuban-Canarian Intonation in
THE INTERROGATIVE CUBAN-CANARIAN INTONATION IN SPONTANEOUS SPEAKING Josefa Dorta Luis y José Antonio Martín Gómez Laboratorio de Fonética, Universidad de La Laguna, Islas Canarias [email protected] - [email protected] This work is included inside the proyect “La entonación interrogativa y declarativa del español de Canarias y su relación con la de Cuba y Venezuela” (FFI2010-16993) tied to the macro-proyect AMPER (Atlas Multimedia de Prosodia del Espacio Románico). The objective is the study of interrogative intonation in comparison between Cuba and Canary Islands produced in a spontaneous style by men and women from the two meridional varieties. It is concieved as a pilot study that will give way to a systematic comparative work inside the reference proyect. What we pretend is to find out if intonation patterns of both varieties match in the fundamental, as in how we established in our initial hypothesis. On the other hand, the relevance of the comparison radicates in that we apply for the first time a common methodology, as in, the established by AMPER, which will allow us to establish the relationship between the analyzed patterns upon a same basis, which is fundamental, not only to relate the two analyzed varieties, but also because studies of this kind contribute to begin determining the intonational characteristics of a romanic language such as Spanish above other romanic languages.
