Pedestrian Safety
Kids: Learn how to stay safe while walking.
Never play in driveways, streets, or parking lots.
Ask an adult to help you get a ball, toy, pet, or anything else that has gone out into the street.
Never run out into the street alone.
Wear brightly colored or reflective clothing or reflectors when it is dark, raining, or snowing.
Always walk on the sidewalk. If there is not a sidewalk, walk facing the traffic and stay over
to the side of the street as far as possible from oncoming cars.
Learn and obey all traffic lights, signs, and signals so that you know when it is safe to walk
across the street.
Always cross the street at a corner or crosswalk when you have a green light or the walk signal.
Make sure to always look left, right, and left and also behind you before you cross the street.
Can you name the different traffic safety signs in your neighborhood and tell what they mean? Practice
below by drawing a line from the traffic safety sign on the left to the matching shape on the right.

La seguridad peatonal

Pídele a un adulto que te ayude a buscar la pelota, el balón, un juguete, una mascota o cualquier
otra cosa que se haya ido a la calle o debajo de un auto. Nunca corras solo a la calle.
Usa ropa de colores llamativos o reflectiva o reflectores en la oscuridad, cuando llueva o nieve.
Camina siempre en la vereda. Si no la hubiera, camina de frente al tráfico y permanece en el otro
lado de la calle alejándote lo más posible de los autos que se aproximen en dirección contraria.
Aprende y obedece todos los semáforos, las señales y los carteles así sabrás cuándo es seguro
cruzar la calle.
Cruza siempre la calle en las esquinas o en los pasos peatonales cuando tengas luz verde o la
señal para caminar.
Asegúrate de mirar siempre hacia la izquierda, la derecha y la izquierda y, además, detrás
tuyo antes de cruzar la calle.
¿Puedes nombrar las distintas señales para la seguridad del tránsito de tu barrio y decir qué significan?
Practica a continuación dibujando una raya desde el cartel de seguridad para el tránsito, a la izquierda,
con la forma que le corresponde, sobre la derecha.
