Dear Grant Families,
Welcome to the 2014-15 school year! As your new school administrators, we are excited to be a part of the Grant
Geckos. Our Staff, the new PTA Board and Booster Club Board are hard at work on behalf of our students and families.
We know that parent and community involvement at school as well as steady, consistent attendance improves student
achievement and will prepare our students to emerge as responsible and successful citizens.
Our families will continue to receive schoolwide updates via email and classroom teachers will communicate in a variety
of ways. During our Back to School Night presentations, your child’s teacher will share his/her communication plan so
you will know how you will receive the classroom curriculum updates as well as the best way to contact the teacher
regarding your child’s individual progress. During the school year, families are encouraged to participate in a variety of
Family Nights. These evenings will be opportunities for parents and students to learn and have fun together through
hands-on, fun activities led by teachers or other educational specialists and/or organized by parents.
Enclosed in your Opening Packet you will find a number of items. We are attempting to be as green as possible so
some items will be in hard copies and others will be sent to you electronically. The Volunteer Form, PTA Membership
Form, as well as the joint Booster Club/Education Foundation Donation Letter will be in the packet. We encourage
you to make this commitment and investment in your child’s education. Your investment makes a huge difference!
Thanks to the efforts of our school community and the SMMUSD community at large, our students will continue to
experience a wide-range of educational opportunities to extend on our classroom instruction which include music,
visual arts, science and additional reading support. Please see the enclosed forms to read more about what your
investment provides to your child this year at Grant, and all students in our district as we support the SMMUSD Vision
for Student Success.
The request for your email address in also in the packet. If you have been getting our emails this summer, please
indicate so. If you want to change your email address, this is the time. Additionally, all of these forms can also be found
on our Web Site. Our liaison will be working to get families without a current email address on line.
Also in your Opening Packet, you will also find the Grant School 2014-15 Tentative Calendar. This calendar contains
important dates of upcoming school events We are committed to providing a variety of opportunities for parents to get
involved. Please refer to this calendar for PTA, GAC (Governance), Booster Club and English Language Advisory
Council (ELAC) meeting dates and events. Please refer to updates in our Grant Greetings you will get each week.
The electronic “packet” will contain important reading materials for you to reference throughout the year. We encourage
you to save them to a file. There will be a sign off in the hard packet indicating you read and are aware of these
procedures and policies.
Together, we ensure each and every student receives the best possible well-rounded education and becomes a
capable, confident, lifelong learner. We are looking forward to an outstanding school year!

Estimadas familias de Grant:
Bienvenidos al nuevo año escolar 2014-15! Estamos muy contentas y entusiasmadas de ser las nuevas administradoras de la
escuela, y formar parte de los Geckos!. Tanto nuestro personal, como las nuevas juntas del PTA y del Booster Club, ya se encuentran
trabajando incansablemente en nombre de nuestros estudiantes y sus familias. Entendemos que la participación de los padres y la
comunidad en la escuela, así como la asistencia continua de los niños, mejora el rendimiento en los estudios y los prepara para ser
ciudadanos responsables y exitosos.
Continuaremos mandando notificaciones sobre temas escolares vía correo electrónico. En cuanto a la comunicación con los
maestros, la noche de regreso a la escuela, el maestro de su hijo le dará a conocer su plan de comunicación que incluirá la forma en
que usted recibirá las notificaciones del curriculum y como contactar al maestro con respecto al progreso individual de su hijo.
También, durante el año escolar, las familias estarán invitadas a participar en una variedad de Noches familiares. Estas veladas
serán excelentes oportunidades para que padres e hijos se diviertan y aprendan en familia a través de actividades prácticas, dirigidas
por maestros y organizada por los padres.
El Paquete de bienvenida incluye diferentes formularios como la membresía del PTA, la solicitud de donación para el EdFoundation y el Booster Club y el formulario para voluntarios. Siguiendo nuestro compromiso con el medio ambiente, los demás
formularios serán enviados en forma electrónica. Esperamos que pueda colaborar con educación de sus hijos. Su inversión hace una
gran diferencia! Gracias al esfuerzo de nuestra comunidad, los estudiantes continuarán recibiendo una amplia gama de oportunidades
educativas que incluyen música, artes visuales, ciencia y apoyo adicional en lectura. Para mayor información sobre lo que su
inversión proporciona, por favor lea la información que le mandamos impresa sobre la visión para el éxito estudiantil en SMMUSD.
La solicitud de su dirección de correo electrónico también la encontrará en el paquete. Si ha estado recibiendo nuestros e-mails este
verano, por favor indíquelo, y si desea cambiar su dirección de correo electrónico, este es el momento. Igualmente, todos los

los próximos eventos escolares y una variedad de oportunidades para que los padres puedan involucrarse en la escuela. También
encontrará las fechas de las juntas del PTA, GAC (gobierno), Booster Club y fechas de reuniones de Junta de Padres del idioma inglés
(ELAC). No olvide consultar las actualizaciones semanales.
El "paquete" electrónico contiene material de lectura de referencia para chequear durante el año. Le sugerimos que guarde esta
información en un archivo. Deberá firmar la tarjeta impresa indicando que ha leído y conoce las reglas y procedimientos que informa el
paquete electrónico.
Juntos, haremos que cada estudiante reciba la mejor educación posible y se convierta en una persona segura y capaz de aprender en
