St. Monica Parishioners, The Carney Family would
like to welcome everyone to come by and enjoy our
Christmas light show. Load up the family, pack some hot
chocolate, and tune your car radio in to
listen to the music and watch the lights
dance along. You can find us at 1308 NW
168th in Edmond, (just South of St. Monica's
off Western). This year we are collecting
money for Birth Choice to help women in need. Since
there is construction on Western you can enter the
neighborhood from 164th and Fenwick Blvd., which is just
west of Western on 164th, and follow the signs.
Above: Having spent the semester focused on
developing the habits of a disciple, the postconfirmation girls groups joined together;
donating Christmas gifts to provide for a local
family.
Post-Confirmation Girls Discipleship Groups
Celebrating Fellowship
Above: The junior and senior girls along with their
discipleship group leaders headed to downtown Edmond
to end their semester at Paint Your Art Out. Fr. Hamilton
joined in to support the girls in their journey with Christ
and even got in on the painting.
Altar Boy Appreciation Night
Left and Above Left: Close to 40 of the young men who serve at the altar
recently enjoyed at night of fellowship with Frs. Hamilton and Bali at a Thunder
game. Several were able to welcome the team onto the court and our parish was
featured on the jumbotron. A huge thank you to the many dads who accompanied
the boys and made the outing possible.

Parish Mission Statement
The mission of St. Monica Catholic
Church is to spread the Gospel of
Jesus Christ. Rooted in Scripture and
our Catholic Tradition, and nurtured
by the Sacraments, we will strive to
instill hope in the hearts of the
hopeless, to encourage trust in God for those who are
searching for peace, and to build a loving faith community
to help one another along life's journey.
Fourth Sunday of Advent
5
4th Sunday of Advent
"Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste."
What was the rush? Why did Mary go so quickly to visit
her cousins Elizabeth and Zechariah? It's hard to know
exactly what her purpose was, but one thing is clear: Mary
and Elizabeth shared a special connection. Perhaps Mary
was anxious to be in the company of someone who could
understand her unusual situation.
At this point, Mary was newly pregnant by the power of
the Holy Spirit. The verses preceding today's reading tell us
about the appearance of the Angel Gabriel and Mary's
willingness to become the mother of the Messiah. Now,
this child was already growing within her womb, but the
whole thing was an incredible secret. Who would believe
her? In whom could Mary confide the unbelievable events
that had taken place? We know that at some point later,
Joseph had a vision in a dream that allowed him to
understand. But before that dream came, he was planning
to part ways with Mary. It must have been during that
difficult time that Mary went to see Elizabeth. And what joy
that upon her arrival, Elizabeth immediately understood.
"Blessed is the fruit of your womb," Elizabeth cried out.
The same Holy Spirit who conceived Jesus in Mary's womb
enlightened Elizabeth at this moment. What a consolation
this must have been to Mary.
This story reminds us of the importance of our own
fellowship in the faith. Sharing our spiritual journey with
other believers who are receptive to the Holy Spirit is
meant to be a source of encouragement and strength. We
are not supposed to be in this alone. As we worship and
celebrate together with our faith community, may we
share with each other the real joy of this sacred season.
ARTIST WAY CLASS
Would you like to get closer to God the Creator, in
Whose image we are made, by developing your own
creativity? Come join the facilitator, Katie Gordy, for a 10
week course based on the book The Artist’s Way, by Julia
Cameron. Though costing as much as $300 some places,
this course is FREE and only requires participants to buy
the book. The course runs on Thursdays from January
28th - March 31 from 9:30 - 11 a.m. Baby-sitting will be
available if needed. Call Katie Gordy at 359-2700 to
register or email her at [email protected]. Begin the
New Year by doing something that will be really good for
your mind and spirit.
ADORATION HOURS OPEN
Adoration is the willing submission of
self to the Lord, an expression of love and
appreciation for all He is and all He has
done for us. Please consider whether you
might find time to spend one hour a week
with our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament
Chapel. For questions or to sign up, please
contact Toni Harrelson at 341-2199 or
[email protected].
MINISTERIO HISPANO HISPANIC MINISTRY
Miremos
alrededor de nosotros y digámosle confiados a Jesús.
