Dear Parents and Guardians:
I am writing to let you know about an incident that occurred in the community this morning and to urge
you to discuss it with your child. While walking to school this morning, one of our students was
approached by a man in an SUV who told the student that he was asked to drive her to school by her
parents. The man proceeded to open the car door and told the student to get in the car. Fortunately, there
was no attempt to grab the child and the child was not physically harmed.
The student quickly ran from the scene and returned home. Upon arriving to school, the student also
reported the incident. We immediately contacted Annapolis Police. As the Police continue to investigate
this incident, we are working closely with them to share as much information as possible based on the
advice of the Police.
Please know that our school system and the Annapolis Police take these incidents very seriously.
I want to commend the student involved for taking the right course of action. Therefore, I ask you to take
this opportunity to talk with your children not only about this situation, but about safety in general. Please
help reinforce some of the following basic safety rules:

Have your child walk in a group or with another person.
Stress to your child to be aware of his/her surroundings.
Develop a plan to help your child take appropriate action if a stranger approaches.
Have your child report anything unusual or upsetting to him/her to a responsible adult (parent,
guardian, school staff member, police officer, etc.) immediately.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter regarding the safety of your children. If you have
any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call our school.

Estimados Padres y Tutores:
Les estoy escribiendo para hacerles saber acerca de un incidente que ocurrió esta mañana en la
comunidad y para pedirles que lo discutan con su hijo. Mientras estaba caminando hacia la escuela esta
mañana, a una de nuestras estudiantes se le aproximó un hombre en una camioneta y le dijo que sus
padres le habían pedido que la llevar a la escuela. El hombre procedió a abrir la puerta del carro y le dijo
al estudiante que entrara en el carro. Afortunadamente, no hubo intento de agarrar a la estudiante y no
fue herida físicamente.
La estudiante huyó rápidamente de la escena y regresó a su casa. Una vez llegó a la escuela, la estudiante
también informó el incidente. Inmediatamente se contactó la policía de Annapolis. Mientras que la policía
sigue investigando este incidente, estamos trabajando junto con ellos para compartir toda la información
como sea posible basados en los consejos de la policía.
Por favor entiendan que nuestro sistema escolar y la policía de Annapolis toman estos incidentes muy en
serio.
Quiero felicitar a la estudiante involucrada por tomar las acciones apropiadas. Por lo tanto, los invito a
aprovechar esta oportunidad para hablar con sus hijos no sólo acerca de esta situación, sino sobre la
seguridad en general. Por favor, ayuden a reforzar algunas de las siguientes normas básicas de seguridad:

Hagan que su hijo camine en un grupo o con otra persona.
Enfatíceles a sus niños que deben estar atentos de sus alrededores.
Desarrollen un plan para ayudar a su niño a tomar la acción apropiada si se le acerca un
extraño.
Hagan que su hijo informe inmediatamente a un adulto responsable (padre, tutor, miembro del
personal de la escuela, policía, etc.) sobre algo inusual o si lo están molestando.
Gracias por su atención a este asunto tan importante con respecto a la seguridad de sus hijos. Si ustedes
