and match the item to the outline of the item in the notebook. Use this time to talk
about school and why following the rules at school are important and how the rules
might be different than the rules at home.
What your child will do
Place the items from the backpack on the outlines that match in the notebook.

•School bag or backpack
•Various school objects from around the house
•Notebook with outline of items
What you do
1. Read the book.
2. Put the items inside the bag.
3. Have your child pull out an object and place it on the correct outline.
Questions to ask
What do you think is in this bag? Is it smooth, soft, hard, rough or round? Where
would you use this item? What do you do with the item? Where should you place this
item? Why?
For parents
Playing this game will help your child get familiar with school and school supplies. Talk
about going to school and the rules. Give your child a chance to talk about feelings
associated with school like: being scared, hating music class, favorite teachers and
other experiences.
