Language Arts Mission Statement:
We are committed to the continuing development of our students’ effective
communication skills. Reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing provide the
foundation for all learning and empower students to become critical thinkers, life-long
learners, and productive citizens.
Course Description:
This course meets the senior English requirement. Students will experience a variety of
literature using the class textbook and district approved novels. In this class, there is an
emphasis on writing which is grounded in claims and supported by evidence from the
text. The course emphasizes critical thinking, grammar, and vocabulary. *Note: This
course does not meet the NCAA eligibility requirement.
Este curso cumple los requisitos de inglés para graduación de estudiante de último año.
Estudiantes experimentarán una variedad de literatura usando textos de la clasey
novelas aprobadas por el distrito. habrá un énfasis en la escritura; la cual estará
basada en reclamos y respaldado con evidencia del texto. El curso también enfatiza el
pensamiento crítico, gramática y vocabulario. *Nota: Este curso no cumple con los
requisitos necesarios para ser elegibles en NCAA

Required Materials:
Student Planning Agenda (provided by Olathe North)
Three-ring binder dedicated to English IV
Loose-leaf notebook paper
Writing utensil (pencils, blue or black ink pen only)
Expectations:
Students are expected to come to class on time and be prepared for learning with all
required materials. Students are expected to learn and follow all classroom procedures
and standards.
Standards include:

Responsibility
Trustworthiness
Standard Social Skills
Hallway Passes:
Students are expected to remain in the classroom during the entire period, however per
the student and faculty handbook; no student will leave the room in the first 10 minutes
or the last 10 minutes of each class (or 20 minutes on block day.)
Tardy Policy:
Students will be considered "on time" when they are in the classroom before the bell
rings. There will be a daily "bell activity" to be completed within the first few minutes of
class, so students should be working on the assignment as soon as the final bell rings.
Plagiarism Policy:
As defined in the Olathe District School Secondary Handbook, plagiarism is defined as
“when an individual uses another person’s ideas, expressions, or writing as if they were
his/her own”.
