3rd Sunday of Lent
Family Prayer
L
oving and faithful God, through the years the people
of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and
love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war,
disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with
Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of
today against violence, murder and racism.
We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a
community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives
respect to the life and dignity of all people.
Bless parents that they may form their children in faith.
Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers
of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved
ones through violence.
Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice
for life and human dignity in our community.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us.
Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy
family.

2. We must walk this lonesome valley;
We have to walk it by ourselves.
Oh, nobody else can walk it for us;
We have to walk it by ourselves.
3. You must go and stand your trial;
You have to stand it by yourself.
Oh, nobody else can stand it for you;
You have to stand it by yourself.

He had to walk it by himself.
Oh, nobody else could walk it for him;

1. Amo al Señor, porque escucha
mi voz suplicante,
porque inclina su oído hacia mi
el día que lo invoco.
4. I have decided to follow Jesus.
I have decided to follow Jesus.
I have decided to follow Jesus.
No turning back, no turning back!
Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley
1. Jesus walked this lonesome valley;
He had to walk it by himself.
Oh, nobody else could walk it for him;
He had to walk it by himself.
I looked to Jesus, and I found
In him my star, my sun;
And in that light of life I'll walk
Till trav'ling days are done.
So weary, worn, and sad;
I found in him a res ng place,
And he has made me glad.
2. I heard the voice of Jesus say,
'Behold, I freely give
The living water; thirsty one,
Stoop down, and drink, and live.'
I came to Jesus, and I drank
Of that lifegiving stream;
My thirst was quenched,
my soul revived,
And now I live in him.
3. I heard the voice of Jesus say,
'I am this dark world's light;
Look unto me, your morn shall rise,
And all your day be bright.'
“God is rich in mercy . . .” Ephesians 2:4
4. Alma mía, recobra tu calma,
que el Señor fue bueno con go;
arrancó mi alma de la muerte,
mis ojos de las lágrimas,
mis pies de la caída.

Encuentro
Estribillo
Señor, permite que te hable hoy,
del dulce encuentro que me cambió,
la hora feliz en que yo escuche,
tu palabra de amor.

3rd Sunday of Lent
Cantor Solo (recitado):
Nunca más me cansaré de
hablar con go, mientras pueda,
hablaré de nuestro encuentro,
encuentro de amigo con amigo,
que me cambió por dentro,
que me cambió por dentro.

levantándose antes que el sol,
hacia los campos que lejos están,
muy temprano se va el viñador.
Sólo racimos de amargo sabor
ha encontrado en tu corazón.
Dime si puede esperar algo más
de su viña, el viñador.
Sois los pastores que han de guiar
al mundo por sendas de paz.
Sois los amigos que quise escoger,
sois palabra que intento gritar.
Sois reino nuevo
que empieza a engendrar
jus cia, amor y verdad.

bap zed in grace, in grace renewed
by your most holy word.
Comunión
El Viñador
Estribillo
Dios es tu amigo, el viñador,
el que te cuida de sol a sol.
Dios es tu amigo, el viñador,
el que te pide frutos de amor.
2. Él te protege con un valladar
levantado en tu derredor,
quita del alma las piedras del mal
y ha elegido la cepa mejor.
Limpia los surcos con todo su afán,
y los riega con sangre y sudor.
Dime si puede hacer algo más
por su viña, el viñador.
3. Por los caminos sedientos de luz,
Sois levadura, sois grano de sal,
antorcha que debe alumbrar.
Sois la mañana que vuelve a nacer,
sois espiga que empieza a granar.
Sois aguijón y caricia a la vez,
tes gos que voy a enviar.
Estribillo
Id, amigos, por el mundo,
anunciando el amor,
mensajeros de la vida,
de la paz y el perdón.
Sed, amigos, los tes gos
de mi resurrección.
Id llevando mi presencia;
con vosotros estoy.
2. Sois una llama que ha de encender
resplandores de fe y caridad.
Refrain
Return to God with all your heart.
Surrender and be free.
With humble hearts we cry to you:
Have mercy on us, Lord;
forgive our sin, we pray, we pray.
2. Through fas ng, prayer, and charity
your voice speaks deep within,
returning us to ways of truth
and turning us from sin.
3. From desert to the mountain top
in Christ our way we see,
so, tempered by tempta on's might,
we might transfigured be.
4. For thirs ng hearts let waters flow,
let fain ng souls revive;
and at the well your waters give
our everlas ng life.

There's a Wideness in God's Mercy
1. There's a wideness in God's mercy
Like the wideness of the sea;
There's a kindness in God’s jus ce,
Which is more than liberty.
There is plen ful redemp on
In the blood that has been shed;
There is joy for all the members
In the sorrows of the Head.
2. There is welcome for the sinner,
And a promised grace made good;
There is mercy with the Savior;
There is healing in Christ’s blood.
There is grace enough for thousands
Of new worlds as great as this;
There is room for fresh crea ons
In that upper home of bliss.
Refrain
So be merciful,
just as our God is merciful.
Be merciful,
just as our God is merciful to us.
Let there be a wideness in our mercy.
Let there be a kindness in our hearts.
Oh, may our lives be merciful.
3. For the love of God is broader
Than the measures of the mind;
And the heart of the Eternal
Is most wonderfully kind.
If our love were but more simple,
We would know the living word;
And our lives would be thanksgiving

Strength for the Journey
Refrain
I will be, I will be,
I will be strength for the journey
I will be, I will be,
I will be strength for the journey.

And as you say, “Yes,”
leSng me guide you,
I will be strength for the journey.
2. There is a cross
meant for you to carry,
there is a cross meant
for you alone.
And as you bow down
in humble surrender
I will be strength for the journey.
3. How many mes
have you doubted my word?
How many mes
must I call your name?
And as you say, “Yes,”
leSng me love you,
I will be strength for the journey.

Li* Up Your Hearts
Refrain
LiW up your hearts to the Lord,
praise God’s gracious mercy!
Sing out your joy to the Lord,
whose love is enduring.
1. Shout with joy
to the Lord, all the earth!
Praise the name above all names!
Say to God,
“How wondrous your works,
how glorious your name!”
2. Let the earth
worship, singing your praise.
Praise the glory of your name!
Come and see what God
has revealed;
bless God’s holy name!
3. God’s right hand
made a path through the night,
split the waters of the sea.
All crea on, liW up your voice:
“Our God set us free!”
4. Listen now, all you servants of God,
as I tell of these great works.
Blessed be the Lord of my life,
whose love shall endure!

Now We Remain
Refrain
We hold the death of the Lord
deep in our hearts.
Living, now we remain with
Jesus, the Christ.
1. Once we were people afraid,
lost in the night.
Then by your cross we were saved.
Dead became living,
life from your giving.
2. Something which we have known,
something we've touched,
what we have seen with our eyes:
this we have heard, life giving Word.
3. He chose to give of himself,
became our bread.
Broken that we might live.
Love beyond love, pain for our pain.
4. We are in the presence of God.
This is our call.
Now to become bread and wine:

SACRED HEART ENTHRONEMENT
Am I like the fig tree in today’s gospel reading? Do I
look great and sound good but bear no fruit for
Christ? Do I fit in everywhere but bring no one closer
to Him? If God is the Creator and I am the creature,
and I am bearing no fruit for Him, won’t He be tempted to give up on me? Even if He does, Jesus is my
Savior, my Redeemer and He will say to the Mighty
One, “Father, I know this does not look good but I
don’t want to lose her, look at how much I suffered
for her… See the wounds in my hands and my feet,
even my Sacred Heart was pierced for her. She has
so much potential, please give me some more time. I
will coax and guide her, I will instruct her Guardian
Angel to whisper words of encouragement in her ear;
and all the while I will bathe her in My mercy. If after
all this she still does not budge, then You may punish
her as You see fit… perhaps then she will get her act
together.”
This Lenten season you’re invited to experience Divine
Mercy Life Teen’s “Living Stations of the Cross” on
March 4, 2016, @ 7pm, in the church. Join us as the
teens briefly examine Christ’s Way of the Cross. Another “examination” or scrutiny is called for in today’s
Gospel (John 4:5-42) when Jesus has a conversation
with the Samaritan woman at the well.
An author on a website
(https://thesteppingstones.wordpress.com) suggests
that we are called to examine our lives and how we
are living them. Just as the Samaritan women and
Jesus discussed events in her life, at Life Teen and
Edge, teens look at themselves and their decisions in
their lives.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary lists the simple definition of scrutiny as: the act of carefully examining
something especially in a critical way: the act of scrutinizing something. This helps to explain why this
Gospel is also known as “the first scrutiny.” Come
join us this Lenten season and grow closer to Christ
as you carefully examine your life.
Abba Father, please do not ever give up on me.

manos y mis pies, incluso mi Sagrado Corazón

vida.

Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are in
the Blessed Sacrament. I love You
above all
things, and I
long for You in
my soul. Since I
cannot now
receive You
sacramentally,
come at least
spiritually into
my heart. As
though You have already come, I
embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be
separated from You.
Acto de Comunión
Espiritual
alma. Como
ahora no puedo recibirte
sacramentalmente, al menos ven a mi corazón espiritualmente. Como ya has venido, Yo te
abrazo y me uno enteramente a Ti.
Nunca permitas que me separe de
ti.

Prayer for Vocations
God of Pentecost, you renew the Church
in every age by raising up men and
women outstanding in holiness.
We pray for the men and women—
priests, deacons, religious, married and
single—that your’re calling to lead the
New Evangelization and the New
Springtime.
We pray for their holiness, their ability
to hear your call, and the freedom they
need to say “yes” to you. Grant them
courage, vision and passion to serve
your people.
May their lives inspire us to respond to
the presence of the Holy Spirit as you
inflame the Church throughout the
world, raising up a generation of saints
on fire for you. AMEN
