Divine Mercy Parish February 28, 2016 3rd Sunday of Lent Family Prayer L oving and faithful God, through the years the people of our archdiocese have appreciated the prayers and love of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in times of war, disaster, epidemic and illness. We come to you, Father, with Mary our Mother, and ask you to help us in the battle of today against violence, murder and racism. We implore you to give us your wisdom that we may build a community founded on the values of Jesus, which gives respect to the life and dignity of all people. Bless parents that they may form their children in faith. Bless and protect our youth that they may be peacemakers of our time. Give consolation to those who have lost loved ones through violence. Hear our prayer and give us the perseverance to be a voice for life and human dignity in our community. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Our Lady of Prompt Succor, hasten to help us. Mother Henriette Delille, pray for us that we may be a holy family. 4:00 pm Mass Entrance I Have Decided to Follow Jesus 1. We must walk this lonesome valley; We have to walk it by ourselves. Oh, nobody else can walk it for us; We have to walk it by ourselves. 3. You must go and stand your trial; You have to stand it by yourself. Oh, nobody else can stand it for you; You have to stand it by yourself. 4. 4. I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus. I have decided to follow Jesus. No turning back, no turning back! Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley 1. Jesus walked this lonesome valley; He had to walk it by himself. Oh, nobody else could walk it for him; He had to walk it by himself. I looked to Jesus, and I found In him my star, my sun; And in that light of life I'll walk Till trav'ling days are done. So weary, worn, and sad; I found in him a res ng place, And he has made me glad. 2. I heard the voice of Jesus say, 'Behold, I freely give The living water; thirsty one, Stoop down, and drink, and live.' I came to Jesus, and I drank Of that lifegiving stream; My thirst was quenched, my soul revived, And now I live in him. 3. I heard the voice of Jesus say, 'I am this dark world's light; Look unto me, your morn shall rise, And all your day be bright.' “God is rich in mercy . . .” Ephesians 2:4 4. From ashes to the living font your church must journey, Lord, bap zed in grace, in grace renewed by your most holy word. Refrain Return to God with all your heart. Surrender and be free. With humble hearts we cry to you: Have mercy on us, Lord; forgive our sin, we pray, we pray. 2. There's a wideness in God's mercy Like the wideness of the sea; There's a kindness in God’s jus ce, Which is more than liberty. There is plen ful redemp on In the blood that has been shed; There is joy for all the members In the sorrows of the Head. 2. There is grace enough for thousands Of new worlds as great as this; There is room for fresh crea ons In that upper home of bliss. Refrain So be merciful, just as our God is merciful. Be merciful, just as our God is merciful to us. Let there be a wideness in our mercy. Let there be a kindness in our hearts. Oh, may our lives be merciful. 3. For the love of God is broader Than the measures of the mind; And the heart of the Eternal Is most wonderfully kind. If our love were but more simple, We would know the living word; And our lives would be thanksgiving Page 4 In the kindness of our Lord. 4. Do I look great and sound good but bear no fruit for Christ? Do I fit in everywhere but bring no one closer to Him? If God is the Creator and I am the creature, and I am bearing no fruit for Him, won’t He be tempted to give up on me? Even if He does, Jesus is my Savior, my Redeemer and He will say to the Mighty One, “Father, I know this does not look good but I don’t want to lose her, look at how much I suffered for her… See the wounds in my hands and my feet, even my Sacred Heart was pierced for her. She has so much potential, please give me some more time. I will coax and guide her, I will instruct her Guardian Angel to whisper words of encouragement in her ear; and all the while I will bathe her in My mercy. If after all this she still does not budge, then You may punish her as You see fit… perhaps then she will get her act together.” This Lenten season you’re invited to experience Divine Mercy Life Teen’s “Living Stations of the Cross” on March 4, 2016, @ 7pm, in the church. Join us as the teens briefly examine Christ’s Way of the Cross. Another “examination” or scrutiny is called for in today’s Gospel (John 4:5-42) when Jesus has a conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well. An author on a website (https://thesteppingstones.wordpress.com) suggests that we are called to examine our lives and how we are living them. Just as the Samaritan women and Jesus discussed events in her life, at Life Teen and Edge, teens look at themselves and their decisions in their lives. The Merriam-Webster dictionary lists the simple definition of scrutiny as: the act of carefully examining something especially in a critical way: the act of scrutinizing something. This helps to explain why this Gospel is also known as “the first scrutiny.” Come join us this Lenten season and grow closer to Christ as you carefully examine your life. Abba Father, please do not ever give up on me. Sacred Heart in your home, please contact AnneMarie d'Abadie at 443-2204 or email [email protected] (English), or Lynda Peña at 338-4306 (Spanish). Girl Scout Cookie Sales BELL CHOIR The Hand Bell Choir will be playing at the 10:30am Mass on Easter Sunday. We pray for the men and women— priests, deacons, religious, married and single—that your’re calling to lead the New Evangelization and the New Springtime. We pray for their holiness, their ability to hear your call, and the freedom they need to say “yes” to you. Grant them courage, vision and passion to serve your people. May their lives inspire us to respond to the presence of the Holy Spirit as you inflame the Church throughout the world, raising up a generation of saints on fire for you. AMEN
