EXPECTING THE UNEXPECTED
There are people who always leave for tomorrow what
they could have done today. They are people who are
very sure that they will have time tomorrow to reconcile
with their brother, visit a sick friend, return what was
taken, begin to be honest in their job, or be more
concerned with their children. They forget that tomorrow is
what we, with certainty, cannot be sure of. We can only be
sure of the now, the present, and nothing else. Isn’t it
better to begin doing those things now? That way if we
don’t have a tomorrow, at least we will have commenced
a much happier life, and at least we would be able to tell
the Lord that although we may not have finished what we
set out to do, it was not for lack of trying.
For Reflection
What things are pending for you to do? Can you list those
things that as a Christian you believe you must do and
have not done because of laziness, carelessness, neglect,
or because it seems difficult?

BENEDICTINE ACADEMY
Is a Catholic school for girls located in Hillside. Parents of
girls in seventh or eighth grades are invited to come to our
parish on Monday, November 7, at 7:00 PM for an
evening of information. The school offers scholarships.
NAILS IN THE FENCE
There once was a little boy who had a bad temper.
His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every
time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the
back of the fence.
The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence.
Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his
anger, the number of nails hammered daily
gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to
hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.
Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper
at all.
He told his father about it, and the father suggested that
the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was
able to hold his temper.
The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell
his father that all the nails were gone.
The father took his son by the hand and led him to the
fence. He said, “you have done well, my son, but look at
the
holes
in
the
fence.
The
fence
will
never be the same. When you say things in anger, they
leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a
man and draw it out... but it won't matter how many times
you say I’m sorry, the wound will still be there.”
The fence will never be the same!

CLAVOS EN LA CERCA
Había una vez un niño que tenía muy mal genio. Su padre
le dio una bolsa de puntillas y le dijo que cada vez que
perdiera la paciencia tenía que clavar una puntilla en la
parte posterior de una pared.
El primer día, el muchacho había puesto 37 puntillas en la
pared. Durante las siguientes semanas, él aprendía a
controlar su ira, el número de puntillas disminuía cada
día. El niño descubrió que era más fácil controlar su
temperamento que insertar puntillas en la pared.
Finalmente llegó el día en que el muchacho no perdió la
calma del todo.
Le dijo a su padre esto y este le sugirió que sacara una
puntilla por cada día que fuera capaz de controlar su mal
genio.
Los días pasaron y el joven pudo finalmente decirle a su
padre que todas las puntillas habían desaparecido. El
Padre llevo al niño de la mano a la pared y le dijo: “Lo has
hecho muy bien, hijo mío, pero mira los agujeros en la
pared. La pared nunca va a ser lo mismo. Cuando usted
dice cosas con ira, estas dejan una cicatriz como estas.
Usted puede clavar un cuchillo en una persona y
sacarlo… pero no importa cuántas veces usted dice que
lo siente, la herida seguirá ahí.
¡La valla nunca será igual!
ESPERAR LO INESPERADO
Hay personas que siempre dejan para mañana lo que
podrían haber hecho hoy. Son personas que están muy
seguras de que mañana tendrán el tiempo para
reconciliarse con su hermano, visitar un enfermo,
devolver lo que se tomó, comenzar a ser honesto en su
trabajo, o pasar más tiempo con la familia y los hijos.
Se olvidan que el mañana es lo que, con certeza, no
podemos estar seguros de que vendrá. Sólo podemos
estar seguros de la actualidad y el presente y nada más.
¿No es mejor empezar a hacer las cosas ahora? De esta
forma si no tenemos un mañana, por lo menos se ha
iniciado una vida mucho más feliz, y por lo menos
seríamos capaz de decirle al Señor que, aunque puede
ser que no hemos terminado lo que nos propusimos
hacer, no fue por falta de intentarlo.

¿Qué cosas están pendientes que usted debe hacer?
¿Puede enumerar las cosas que como cristiano usted
cree que debe hacer y no lo ha hecho debido a la pereza,
el descuido, la negligencia, o porque le parece difícil?
