“BLESSED IS THE FRUIT OF YOUR WOMB”
REAL PRESENCE
Luke’s infancy narratives are carefully written to
reveal that the child Jesus who was born in Bethlehem is
truly the Son of God, the long-awaited Messiah of the
Jews, and the Savior of all people. In today’s Gospel
Elizabeth proclaims the good news to Mary, and to us, that
Mary’s child is divine. She says, “Blessed is the fruit of
your womb. And how does this happen to me that the
mother of my Lord should come to me?” (Luke 1:43). As
Luke tells it, John the Baptist recognized Jesus before
either of them had been born, and announced Jesus’
identity as the anointed Son of God through Elizabeth’s
words.
The first and second readings for this Sunday
highlight Jesus’ identity as Savior of all people. In Micah
we hear that “his greatness will reach to the ends of the
earth” and in Hebrews we are reminded that his death was
an offering “for all.” Today’s scriptures should reveal to
us the full significance of the Incarnation, the coming of
God in the form of a humble human infant.
We may never fully grasp God’s real presence in
the human form of the infant Jesus. Just so, we may never
fully grasp the real presence of God in the humble form of
the Eucharist. The one who came down from heaven and
became human at Christmas comes down from heaven at
every Eucharist and offers us his body and blood so that
all might be consecrated—that is, share in his divine life.
As we sing the Lamb of God litany and receive
Communion this week, may we welcome the Son of God
and Savior of all people, the Messiah and Lamb of God.
May we recognize him not only in the infant Jesus and in
the Eucharist, but in all of our sisters and brothers.
In every Eucharist the Incarnation continues; God
takes on human form and dwells among us.

MEMORIES AND DREAMS
There is an old saying that good gifts come in small
packages. This is certainly borne out in today’s scriptures. In
the first reading the Lord announces that it is from
Bethlehem, described as “too small to be among the clans of
Judah” (Micah 5:1), that the Messiah would spring forth. In
the Gospel story of the visitation of Mary to Elizabeth, we can
only imagine Mary, probably a young teenager, a small
woman, bearing within herself the greatest gift the world
would ever know. These scriptures have much to say to us as
we look forward to opening Christmas gifts over the next few
days. Nothing in any package beneath any tree can compare
to the gift given to the world two thousand years ago. As we
share the joy of Christmas, let us remember the greatest gift,
Jesus Christ, who came into this world to save us and set us

Bullying typically consists of direct behaviors,
such as teasing, taunting, threatening, hitting,
shoving and stealing. But it might also be indirect, such as
spreading rumors that cause victims to be socially isolated
through intentional exclusion.
Cyberbullying, which
involves the use of the internet or mobile phones to send
inappropriate messages and images to or about others, is
also behavior that is not tolerated in our Catholic schools.

CHALICE AND STOLE PROGRAM
To promote vocations to the priesthood St. Bernard’s will be
participating in this program. Each week a different family will be
given the chalice and the stole (the garment the priest wears around
his neck at Mass) to take home. The family is asked to pray for
vocations during the week and to return the chalice and stole on the
following Sunday for another family. Families who want to participate
are invited to sign up in the sacristy.

MEMORIAS Y SUEÑOS
Hay un viejo dicho de que los buenos regalos vienen
en paquetes pequeños. Eso es muy cierto en las lecturas de
hoy. En la primera lectura el Señor anuncia que es de Belén,
descrita como “pequeña entre las aldeas de Judá” (Miqueas
5:1), de donde vendrá el Mesías. En el relato evangélico de la
visita de María a Isabel, sólo podemos imaginar a María,
probablemente una jovencita, cargando ella misma el mayor
regalo que el mundo jamás conocería. Estos relatos bíblicos
nos dicen mucho a los que esperamos abrir regalos navideños
en los próximos días. No hay paquete junto al árbol que se
compare con el regalo dado al mundo dos mil años atrás. Al
compartir la alegría de la Navidad, recordemos que el mayor
regalo, Jesucristo, vino a este mundo para salvarnos y

Unase al Padre Pablo en otro viaje de
ensueño. Esta peregrinación destacará el
“Manto de Turín” y la famosa Obra de la
Pasión Oberammergau realizada
únicamente cada diez años desde el año de 1634. El
Manto de turín se exhibe únicamente con un permiso
Papal. El Papa Benedicto ha otorgado el permiso para
exhibir el Manto el próximo año durante los meses de
Mayo y Junio. Visitaremos otros sitios de interés como
Roma, Asís, y Florencia. Los folletos con más información
los encontrará en el vestíbulo de la Iglesia. El espacio es
limitado. Envíe su depósito ahora.
Sabía Usted que fanfarronear es una forma
de abuso?
Sabía usted que fanfarronear es una
forma de abuso y es prohibido en nuestras escuelas
Católicas? Fanfarronear típicamente consiste en
bromas pesadas, burlas, amenazas, golpes, empujones, y robo.
Pero también puede incluir el lanzamiento de rumores que
pueden causar que la víctima sea intencionalmente excluída
socialmente. El fanfarrón virtual el cual involucra el acoso
virtual por medio del internet o teléfonos celulares para mandar
mensajes o imágenes inapropiadas también es comportamiento
prohibido en nuestras escuelas Católicas. Si usted sospecha
que algún estudiante es víctima de algún fanfarrón,
inmediatamente comuníquese con el director de la escuela.

PROGRAMA DE CALIZ Y ESTOLA
Para promover las vocaciones al sacerdocio, San Bernardo
estará participando en este programa. Cada semana se le
entregará a una familia el cáliz y la estola (usada por el
sacerdote alrededor de su cuello durante la Misa) para que los
lleven a casa. La familia deberá orar por las vocaciones durante
esa semana y devolver el caliz y la estola el siguiente domingo
para que otra familia a su vez los lleven a sus hogares. Las
familias que deseen participar se les invita a apuntarse en la
sacristía.
