Masses can be celebrated any day for living or deceased loved
ones. The Diocesan stipend is $15.00. What a beautiful way to
remember and honor those we love. We have beautiful Mass
cards for both the living and the deceased. If you would like a
Mass intention please contact the parish office. If you want the
name to appear in the Sunday bulletin, requests should be submitted before Monday.

Exile
Both Isaiah and Peter had the task of comforting and
encouraging their communities during times of exile. The
Israelites were in geographic exile from Israel; to them this was,
in effect, the same as being in exile from their God. The early
Christians, following the Resurrection, expected an immediate
return of Christ in glory; they, too, felt in “exile” as the delay of
the Second Coming grew longer and longer. All four of
scripture’s authors today—Isaiah, the psalmist, Peter, and
Mark—hasten to help us see things in God’s terms, not ours.
They want us to know that we can never truly be exiled from
God, or from God-among-us, since we know that when the
faithful are gathered, Christ has come into their midst. Instead,
we are encouraged today to do what we can from our end to
shorten the time of our exile: to repent of our sins, to return
our lives to the Lord, to live as people who seek the coming
day of the Lord, when “kindness and truth shall meet; justice
and peace shall kiss” (Psalm 85:10)
Monday December 8th is the feast of the Immaculate Conception. This is a Holy Day of obligation - we will have Mass

RCIA
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults will begin on January
10, 2014 and continue until April 14, 2014. Classes will be held
on Saturday’s beginning at 11:00am in the Rectory. If you have

Advent
This year, Advent starts on
Sunday, November 30, 2014.
Beginning the Church's liturgical year, Advent (from, "advenire" in Latin or "to come
to") is the season encompassing the four Sundays (and
weekdays) leading up to the
celebration of Christmas. The
Advent season is a time of
preparation that directs our
hearts and minds to Christ’s
second coming at the end of
time and also to the anniversary of the Lord’s birth on Christmas. The final days of Advent,
from December 17 to December 24, focus particularly on our
preparation for the celebrations of the Nativity of our Lord
(Christmas).

Treasures From Our Tradition
Have you seen Antiques Roadshow on television? People bring
attic treasures to experts for appraisal and possible cash.
Catholic attics, or maybe Grandma’s wall, often hold a “sick
call crucifix.” It is a curiously bulky crucifix hiding a sliding
panel and a secret compartment. Two tiny candles, a squeeze
bottle of holy water, a stringy purple mini‑stole, a tube of
prayers, and some cotton balls are all hidden inside. The cross
folds up to form a mini‑altar that can be propped up by a sick
person’s bed. All that is needed is a priest with the oil of the
sick and Holy Communion. Forty years ago, when these
crosses enjoyed great popularity, the sacrament of the sick
was often an encounter between priest and sick person alone,
and often only in a last crisis of illness.
Gradually, we are reclaiming the sacrament of anointing from
this minimal, hidden expression. It is celebrated more richly
and more often, even in the Sunday assembly, at every stage of
illness and across a wide range of human suffering. The “sick
call crucifix” is not a tradition, it is a curiosity from another
time, but it reminds us of true tradition: we are a people who
care for our sick, who accompany them in faith, and who
sustain them with an experience of Christ’s presence.

Adviento
A partir del año litúrgico de la
Iglesia, el Adviento (de "advenire" en latín o "para venir
a") es la temporada que abarca
los cuatro domingos (y los días
de semana) que condujo a la
celebración de la Navidad. El
tiempo de Adviento es un
tiempo de preparación que
dirige nuestros corazones y
mentes a la segunda venida de
Cristo al final de los tiempos y
también para el aniversario del nacimiento del Señor en la Navidad. Los últimos días de Adviento, desde 12 17 hasta 12 24,
se centran sobre todo en nuestra preparación para las fiestas
de la Natividad de nuestro Señor (Navidad).

El Rito de Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos se iniciará el 10 de
enero de 2014 y continuará hasta el 14 de abril de 2014. Las
clases se llevarán a cabo el comienzo del sábado a las 11:00 am

Primer Domingo De Adviento
Exilio
Tanto Isaías como Pedro tenían la tarea de consolar y animar a
sus comunidades durante épocas de exilio. El de los israelitas
era un exilio geográfico, apartados de Israel; para ellos, en
efecto, era lo mismo que estar exilados de su Dios. Los primeros cristianos, seguido de la Resurrección, anticipaban una
vuelta inmediata de Cristo en su gloria; también ellos se sentían “en exilio” cuando la demora de la Segunda Venida se hacía
cada vez más larga. Todos los cuatro autores de las Escrituras
de hoy ‑Isaías, el salmista, Pedro y Marcos‑ se apresuran a
ayudarnos a ver las cosas desde el punto de vista de Dios, no
el nuestro. Ellos quieren que sepamos que en realidad nunca
podemos estar exilados de Dios, o de Dios-entre-nosotros, ya
que sabemos que cuando se congregan los fieles, Cristo está
presente en medio de ellos. En vez, se nos anima hoy a hacer
lo que podamos de nuestra parte, para acortar el tiempo del
exilio: arrepentirnos de nuestros pecados, volver nuestra vida
al Señor, vivir como personas que buscan la llegada del día del
Señor, cuando “La misericordia y la fidelidad se encuentran, la
justicia y la paz se besan” (Salmo 85 [84]:11).
Tradiciones De Nuestra Fe
Nuestras tradiciones son bellas y activas. Normalmente cuando
hablamos de Tradición y tradiciones nos entendemos como los
sujetos de ellas, pero hay que recordar que primero las recibimos; si conocemos y participamos en nuestras tradiciones, es
porque alguien ya nos las enseñó. Teólogos hispanos como Orlando Espín han convertido la palabra tradición en un verbo. El
proceso de enseñar y aprender nuestras tradiciones que transmiten el Evangelio de generación a generación lo llamamos
“tradicionar”. Tradicionar es una labor importante de la familia
cristiana y, de forma muy limitada, de los ministros y líderes de
la Iglesia. Nuestros hijos e hijas no van a recibir nuestras costumbres y creencias en la escuela pública. No van a aprender a
ser buenos cristianos en las calles o centros comerciales. Tradicionar cristianamente se hace en la casa, en el barrio y la parroquia. El tradicionar a un nuevo cristiano o cristiana, comienza
con el Bautismo, más no termina ahí, es algo continuo, algo que
se da en todo momento. Hay que educar a nuestros hijos e hijas
en las tradiciones de nuestra fe y la cultura cristiana. Por ejemplo, durante el Adviento es muy bello tradicionar a tus hijos con
Guadalupe, el pesebre, las posadas y especialmente, amor al
Niño Dios.
Adviento Reconciliación Lunes
Lunes, 15 de diciembre tendremos confesiones en la iglesia
16:00-20:00. Si usted no es capaz de llegar a las confesiones de
San José se escuchará en todas las iglesias de la arquidiócesis.
Día de la Inmaculada Concepción
Lunes 8 de diciembre se celebra la fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción. Este es un día de obligación - tendremos Misa
