Dear Parent,
In our classroom, we are sorting and comparing groups of objects, with help from a PBS online
game called “Freezer Burn Snack Sort” featuring characters from the PBS KIDS® series Fizzy’s
Lunch Lab.
Ask your child to help organize foods in the refrigerator.
•Remove from the refrigerator the fruits, vegetables, and
dairy products.
•Choose one space in the refrigerator for fruits, one for
vegetables, and one for dairy.
•
Explain that you want your child to help sort the food items.
Ask your child to choose an item, say its name, and tell you
if it is fruit, vegetable, or dairy.
•Ask your child to place the food item in the correct space in
the refrigerator.
•Repeat these steps until all items are named and stored.
•Next, explain that you want to compare the number of
items in each food group. Ask: “Which food group has the
most items? Which has the least?”
•Repeat these steps with foods in the freezer, sorting them
into different groups.

ways at home. To help your child
learn and use new words, repeat
these words often as you sort
and compare together:
•fruit
•vegetable
•dairy
•sort
•compare

As you play, ask questions such as:
•What is another way you could sort the food items?
•Which drawer has the most food? Which has the least?
•How many more vegetables are there than fruits and dairy? (Re-sort them into food groups to make it
easier to compare.)

juego “Freezer Burn Snack Sort,” creado en línea por la estación PBS y que presenta a personajes
de la serie de PBS KIDS® Fizzy’s Lunch Lab.
Pídale a su hijo que lo ayude a organizar la comida en
el refrigerador.

grupos tiene más productos? ¿Cuál tiene menos?”
•Repita estos pasos con la comida que tiene en el congelador
sorteándolas por grupos.
