GRACIAS POR SU CONTINUA GENEROSIDAD! WORKS-IN-PROGRESS We are called to change - to constant conversion every single day of our lives. God is continually working on us; none of us is a finished product. We are continually called to a deeper relationship with Christ and a great understanding of who Jesus is. In today’s Gospel, Jesus goes through a change - which gives Peter, James and John a sneak peek of his post-Resurrection glory. But Peter, James and John go through a change, too. They were set on fire in the presence of the transfigured Christ. Peter exclaimed, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here!” Jesus was bringing them more deeply into the mystery of the Messiah and Peter wanted to remain in that moment. Jesus wants to reveal himself to us this Lent in a new way and, in doing so, bring us to a place of conversion as well. We need to be set on fire in the presence of the transfigured Christ. It is in this presence that we may face a painful realization – we are wrecked with sin. The season of Lent is a season of penance for this reason; we recognize that sin has made our lives messy and we need a savior. We stand at the mountain with the Transfigured Christ and fall on our faces, pleading for the Lord’s mercy. This is the moment of conversion; it is the mountaintop experience when we realize that Christ is more than a prophet or a teacher but that Jesus is our savior. It is that moment when we realize that, in Christ, we are made new and glorified. This week as we approach the mountaintop with Peter, James, and John we are mindful of the ways that we are still works-in-progress, and rejoice in the glimpse of what is to come in our Transfigured Lord.©2014 Life Teen, Inc. This weekend is our second collection to benefit our Parish Improvement Fund. Thank you for your support and prayers for our parish community! Fast , Abstinence and works of Love BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL Please see page #10 for more information. Our Bishop’s Annual Appeal for Ministries pledge is part of our Christian stewardship of treasure. Our motivation for giving is gratitude for all the blessings we have received from God. We must ask ourselves, what return shall we make to the Lord? Please remember: no gift is too small. Let God’s love shine through your generosity. Why did Elijah and Moses appear? Why were the three apostles terrified? Why did Jesus not want them to speak a word about what they had seen? I have often found it frustrating that I didn’t know more about what was going on the mountain. And yet, after reflecting upon this, I realize that this allows me to relate to what it must have been like for the apostles as they followed Jesus. Even here, I see the three questioning what Jesus said to them. As I follow the Lord in my own life, I need to be humble enough to acknowledge that I do not have all the answers, but through complete faith I will be led where the Spirit wants me to go. Pedro exclamó: "Maestro, ¡qué a gusto estamos aquí!" ©2014 Life Teen, Inc. PAGINA / PAGE 10 MARCH 1, 2015 - SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT OTHER NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS ReflecƟons on Sunday's Readings Sacredness and Dignity of the Human Person When God created us, he made us in his image and likeness. That means that every human being has a special value and purpose. We need to care for each other so that we can be the people that God calls us to be. ✝ God never leaves us. He created each of us as unique, valuable persons and works actively in our lives, desiring that we grow closer to him. How has God been at work in our lives during these first days of Lent? ✝ Today’s readings show us that God gives tangible reminders of his committed love and his desire to be present to us: the rainbow after the flood, Jesus’ preaching, the waters of Baptism. How do we act as tangible reminders of God’s love, especially to those who are most in need? ✝ This week’s CRS Rice Bowl Story of Hope takes us to Tanzania, where we are reminded of the important role a community can play in supporting an individual’s work. This takes trust and commitment—two themes apparent in today’s readings. Am I committed to myself, my God and my neighbor? How do I show this trust and commitment, and where is there room for growth? Hungering for a Better Life Our journey with CRS Rice Bowl begins in Tanzania, where a simple soybean is changing lives! What actions can you take this Lent to change lives—at home and around the BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL The Bishop’s Annual Appeal (BAA) begins in the fall of each year and provides for a critical portion of the yearly funding needed to support key ministries and services which are administered by the bishop’s staff at the diocesan offices. A sacrificial offering to the Annual Appeal affirms your support of these four important diocesan ministries; Seminarians/Vocations, Catechetic, Family Life and Youth Ministries. All of these ministries are important components to the vitality and future of the church as they assure the education and formation of our priests, provide for the spiritual foundation of children and adults, help to strengthen family life and marriages as well as engaging our youth in the Catholic faith. Bishop Armando X. Ochoa notes that fundamental to our lives as Catholics is the realization that everything we have is a gift from God and that we are called to be stewards of God’s abundant blessings by sharing our gifts and by living our mission to go forth as instruments of the Lord with renewed conviction, with confidence and hope. Please remember: no gift is too small. Let God’s love shine through your generosity. To the many parishioner/donors to the appeal, Bishop Ochoa is always thankful for your support of our diocesan ministries and vocations. Bishop Ochoa also recognizes the sacrificial giving of our parishioners throughout our diocese and also acknowledges the tireless efforts of our priests in promoting this important campaign. The Annual Appeal is scheduled to conclude in June of 2014 although individual donors may continue to pay on their campaign pledges through the end of the summer. Remember that if every Catholic in the Diocese of Fresno contributed $5 to the appeal, we would easily surpass our goal of $900,000. You can make your contribution online through PayPal through the Diocese of Fresno webpage. Just select your parish (St. Anthony of Padua) then click the Donate button. Just $5 per Catholic! Won’t you help? DR. THOMAS PENMAN VAL DORNAY Podiatrist – Foot Specialist ATTORNEY AT LAW (559) 226-5860 Former Dep. D.A. & Vietnam Vet. Knight of Columbus For 35 Years 4820 N.
