T
his is Trinity Sunday, the annual solemn
reflection on the mystery of God’s identity as
Father, Son, and Spirit. Throughout salvation history,
God has manifested Himself in distinctive and
marvelous ways. As the community of believers, we
are invited to plume the depths of this mystery, and
more and more see our lives as caught up in the very
inner life of God.
Through the work of the Holy Spirit and the
power of the Sacraments, each of the baptized finds
their true identity, purpose, and life’s focus in
relationship to the Trinity. In fact, the Sacraments
bring us into such close conformity with Jesus Christ
that the fatherhood of God applies to us, the
members of Christ’s mystical body, the Church. We
can, then, truly say that God is our Father (as we
know from the prayer we so often offer with such
heart-felt devotion i.e., the Lord’s Prayer). In light of
the Sacraments, we can say with Saint Paul, it is no
longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And, in
the wake of Pentecost, the “Gift,” the “Paraclete,” the
“Consoler,” which is the promise of the Father, the
constantly abiding presence of God, who animates
our lives, “strengthens our bond with the Church,
associates us more closely with her mission, and
helps us to bear witness to the Christian faith in
words accompanied by deeds” (CCC#1316). Indeed,
it’s a lot to think about and ponder. But it surely
points to how blessed we are to be counted among
God’s people, en route to the knowledge of the truth.
Without this spiritual dimension of life (and an
understanding of our Creator, Redeemer, and
Sanctifier), the world (even our lives) would be like a
land from which water has vanished. Water may not
be very remarkable, but once it is gone, everything
changes. Green fields wither into desert. Our lives
become parched and lifeless. Indeed, all living things,
in truth, exist through the Spirit. All human beings
find their true identity in relationship to the Blessed
Trinity.
On this Trinity Sunday 2014, let us endeavor to
more reverently make the Sign of the Cross, which so
significantly marks us with Trinitarian life. Let us
listen closely to the citations in Holy Scripture which
speak to us of the very identity of God. Let us also
notice the references spread throughout our sacred
liturgy, which make manifest the work of the Blessed
Trinity in the economy of salvation for the life of the
world. The mystery of the Trinity pervades our walk
of faith. May we once again be caught up in the
privilege of participating in the inner life of God.

T
HE MOST HOLY TRINITY
JUNE 15, 2014
God so loved the world
that he gave his only Son.
— John 3:16a
T
RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT
he name of the Trinity is, without a doubt, the
most familiar sacred name to us. We speak it
every time we make the sign of the cross, and it
forms the heart of our Creed. Trinity Sunday is a
good day, however, to stop and reflect on the
unique role of each of the three persons we name
so often in the Trinity and in our own lives. When
we celebrate the Eucharist on Sunday, we come
together as the Body of Christ through our baptism,
and through the power of the Holy Spirit we offer
the whole prayer of the Mass to God the Father.
This presence of the Trinity does not stop when we
leave church on Sunday. We are—always and
everywhere—members of the Body, and every thing
we do as members of that Body is empowered by
the Holy Spirit, all of it offered to the glory of our
loving Father.
Take a moment each day this week to reflect on
how the persons of the Trinity were present to you
during the day, and how other people came to see
the presence of the Trinity in your witness to the
Good News.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
T
he liturgy seems reluctant to return to
Ordinary Time from the joys of Easter, and so
the festivities extend to today’s celebration of the
mystery of God’s relationship to us as Father, Son,
and Holy Spirit. The Gospel today centers the
question of our relationship with God in the
struggle of Nathaniel to believe that it is possible to
experience “rebirth” in the Spirit. The answer of
Jesus is that God’s response to the messes of this
world is the mystery of saving love in Jesus Christ
and the outpouring of an empowering Spirit.
Western church architecture often tops a
church building with a spire, indicating humanity’s
reach to a transcendent God. The Eastern Church
responds with onion-shaped domes, indicating the
Spirit’s being poured down upon humanity
precisely at this locale, the gathering of the faithful
for the Divine Liturgy. This familiar design encodes
a great mystery: here, at the Lord’s table, we
experience the outpouring of the Spirit for the life
of the world. Nathaniel came to Jesus by night,
since he was still working out the meaning of his
life. A life attuned to the inner life of the Trinity
must always be given to the light of day.

Education Office of the Church of the
Little Flower. The position of
“Administrative Assistant to the
Director of Religious Education/
Coordinator of Ministries” is a full-time role requiring
knowledge of the parish, secretarial experience,
organizational skills, experience in parish ministry, and

MEMORIAL BRICK PATIO AVAILABLE
AT NEW ST. THERESE GROTTO
In late Fall, the construction of the new grotto in
honor of Saint Therese will begin. It will be under
the big tree at the front entrance to the parish
office. The beautiful new oratory will have a brick
patio that will be designated for memorializations,
just like what we did for the patios at the front
doors of church. The grotto, which will have a shrine, life-size
statue of St. Therese, nighttime illumination, flowing water,
and prayer benches, will also have 300 bricks available for
purchase by those wishing to memorialize their own names,
the names of a loved one, or a spiritual sponsorship. Each
brick, which will be permanently placed and sealed, will cost
$125. Memorialization forms which are to include the clear and
correct spelling of the names of the individual to be
memorialized, together with checks written to the Church of
the Little Flower, are now being accepted. Please see Mark
Landia at the information booth for more details.
A SPIRITUAL FAMILY VACATION TO ITALY AT CHRISTMAS
Father Davis will be leading a pilgrimage to beautiful Italy from
the night of December 25th to the morning of January 3rd.
Visiting Assisi and the shrines of Saint Francis and Saint Clare,
Florence, Orvieto, Monte Cassino, Rome, and Vatican City, we
will also attend a papal audience and welcome the year 2015 at
the Piazza Navona. Only 13 seats left. Register now. A great trip
awaits! Contact Mark Landia at the Information Booth or at the

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF
BECOMING CATHOLIC?
We are now again welcoming
inquiries into discovering life
as a Catholic. Yes, our journey
of life often includes new
moments of discovery; new
doors of grace. If you, or
anyone you know, might be open to attending
some information sessions about Catholic
doctrine and life, you are welcome to attend
the RCIA, which begins in September. Call us
at the Church office (305-446-9950) to get
your name on the list. We’d love to share with
you why we’re Catholic and how you might be
able to become one too!
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
ADULTS: DO YOU NEED TO RECEIVE
FIRST COMMUNION OR
CONFIRMATION?
Each September, classes begin to assist those who
have not yet to receive the Catholic Sacraments
of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Holy
Eucharist). If you are an adult in our community,
who has yet to benefit from the reception of
these important Sacraments, consider joining our
sacramental preparation classes which begin soon
after summer’s end. Your life will be enriched; your
soul forever grateful. Call the parish office for more
information: 305-446-9950.

A Body Both Suffering & Glorious –
The Mystical Union of Christ & the Church
“Clearly answering the question, ‘What is the
Church?,’ Father Barron presents the reality of the

L
A SANTÍSIMA TRINIDAD
15 DE JUNIO DE 2014
Tanto amó Dios al mundo,
que le entregó a su Hijo único.
— Juan 3:16a
E
