¡Saludos!
Bajo el lema de Espacios Compartidos: Topografía Artística y Cultural
de las Américas el vigésimo segundo Festival de la Palabra y de
la Imagen abarca por primera vez las manifestaciones artísticas y
culturales del Caribe anglófono, del Caribe francófono y del Brasil.
Incluye también lenguas autóctonas de las Américas, tales como
guaraní, quíchua y mapuche y las integra en los espacios compartidos
con los países latinoamericanos, con el Canadá y con los Estados
Unidos de América.
Deseo expresar mi profundo agradecimiento a todos los individuos,
organizaciones, instituciones de enseñana y cuerpos consulares que han
hecho posible conducir al Festival a este admirable apogeo artístico y
cultural de las Américas.

Greetings!
Under the theme of Shared Spaces: Artistic and Cultural Topography of the
Americas, the twenty-second Festival of Images and Words spans, for the
first time, the artistic and cultural manifestations of the English-speaking
Caribbean, of the French-speaking Caribbean, and of Brazil. It also includes
aboriginal languages of the Americas, such as Guarani, Quichua and
Mapuche, and integrates them in the spaces shared with the Latin American
countries, with Canada and with the United States of America.
I wish to express my deepest gratitude to all the individuals, organizations,
educational institutions and consular corps who made it possible for the
Festival to achieve these admirable artistic and cultural heights in the
Americas.

Bonjour à tous!
Sous le thème Espaces partagés : topographie artistique et culturelle des
Amériques, le vingt-deuxième Festival des Mots et des Images traite pour
la première fois des manifestations artistiques et culturelles des Caraïbes
anglophones et francophones et du Brésil. Le Festival inclut aussi des
langues autochtones des Amériques, telles que le guarani, le quichua et le
mapuche, et les intègre dans les espaces partagés avec les pays d’Amérique
latine, et avec le Canada et les États-Unis d’Amérique.
Je tiens à exprimer ma profonde gratitude à toutes les personnes et
organisations, y compris les institutions d’enseignement et les corps
consulaires, qui nous ont permis de mener le Festival à cette admirable
apogée artistique et culturelle des Amériques.

THE HONOURABLE MICHAEL COTEAU
MINISTER OF CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION
Michael Coteau was elected to the legislature in 2011 as the MPP for Don
Valley East. He was appointed Minister of Citizenship and Immigration in
February, 2013. Prior to entering government, Coteau served as a school
board trustee for almost eight years.
As a trustee, Coteau worked to make schools more accessible to community
groups that run after-school programs for children. He also served as the
Vice-Chair of the Toronto District School Board and helped to bring forward
nutritional changes that increased awareness around student hunger and
resulted in healthy food programs. In addition, he is a champion of the
integration of technology in education.
Coteau is former CEO and Executive Director of a national literacy not-forprofit, Alpha Plus. He was also on the board of the Toronto Foundation for
Student Success and on the board of the Toronto Land Corporation.
Coteau and his wife, Lori, live in Toronto along with their two daughters,
Maren and Myla.

the 22nd Festival of Images and Words, hosted by the Celebración Cultural
del Idioma Español/ Cultural Celebration of the Spanish Language (CCIE).
The festival is a wonderful way to celebrate the Spanish language, as well as
other languages spoken throughout the Americas, through arts and culture.
It is also an excellent opportunity to honour our province’s diversity,
which is one of our greatest strengths. We are fortunate in Ontario to
have a multicultural society that continues to shape our province socially,
economically and culturally.
I comment CCIE for hosting the festival and for its many contributions to
Ontario. Please accept my best wishes for a successful and memorable event.

La Celebración Cultural del Idioma Español (CCIE) es una organización sin
fines de lucro creada para estimular y fomentar la apreciación y el interés
mutuos por las contribuciones artísticas hechas por hispano-canadienses y
por otros canadienses de distintas procedencias.
En la preparación de su Festival anual de la Palabra y de la Imagen, la
CCIE colabora estrechamente con instituciones de enseñanza superior,
con consulados y embajadas de habla hispana y con muchos individuos y
empresas tanto en el sector público como en el privado.
Breve Recuento Histórico
La CCIE fue creada en 1992, como parte de las conmemoraciones
impulsadas por el quinto centenario de la llegada de Cristóbal Colón
a América. Mediante el Festival de la Palabra y de la Imagen, la CCIE
ha presentado celebraciones anuales que incluyen un festival de cine,
exposiciones de arte, conciertos, funciones teatrales, lanzamientos de
libros, concursos literarios, mesas redondas, en cuya variada temática se
incluyen temas como la función del idioma como vehículo aglutinador de
la unión de los pueblos y el significado histórico de la cocina indígena
mexicana.
Estructura
La infraestructura de la CCIE está compuesta de voluntarios A través del
Festival de la Palabra y de la Imagen, la CCIE está íntimamente ligada a
instituciones de enseñanza superior, como la University of Toronto, Ryerson
Polytechnic University y Glendon College, York University, en donde se halla
su sede actual. Además, en la CCIE se desarrollan programas en conjunto
con los Consulados de lengua española de Toronto, con el Glendon Graduate
Program in Translation y muchas asociaciones hispanohablantes de la
comunidad.
El Festival de la Palabra es un verdadero festín literario que abarca lenguas
y culturas. Los que aman la buena literatura pueden deleitarse en inglés o
en francés– con las artísticas y precisas traducciones de los autores clásicos
de la lengua española, así como con la de los autores contemporáneos. Por
otra parte, los hispanohablantes pueden familiarizarse con la producción
literaria de autores canadienses mediante la traducción de sus obras a la
lengua española

The Celebración Cultural del Idioma Español / Cultural Celebration of the
Spanish Language (CCIE) is a non-profit organization created to stimulate
and promote mutual appreciation and awareness of artistic contributions
made by persons of Hispanic-Canadian origin and Canadians of different
origins.
In preparing its annual Festival of Images and Words the CCIE works closely
with institutions of higher education, with Spanish-speaking Consulates and
Embassies and with many individuals and companies in both the private and
public sectors.
Brief History
The CCIE was created in 1992, as part of the commemorations triggered by
the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus to America.
Through the Festival of Images and Words, the CCIE has been presenting
annual celebrations, which include a film festival, art exhibitions, concerts,
theatrical performances, book launchings, literary readings, literary
contests, and panel discussions on a variety of topics, ranging from that of
language as a vehicle for social bonding to the historical significance of the
indigenous Mexican cuisine.
Structure
Our infrastructure is composed entirely of volunteers. Through its Festival
of Images and Words, the CCIE works closely with institutions of higher
education, such as the University of Toronto, Ryerson Polytechnic University
and Glendon College, York University, where it is presently located. In
addition, the CCIE works closely with the Spanish-speaking Consulates in
the city of Toronto, with the Glendon Graduate Program in Translation, and
with many Spanish-speaking associations in the community.
The Festival of Images and Words is a veritable literary feast spanning
across languages and cultures. Those who love and appreciate good
literature enjoy accurate and artistic renditions of the classics, as well
as translations of the works of contemporary Spanish-language authors
in either English or French. Conversely, Spanish-speakers familiarize
themselves with the literary output of Canadians of other origins by means
of the Spanish translation of their works.

La Célébration Culturelle de la Langue Espagnole/ Celebración Cultural del
Idioma Español/ Cultural Celebration of the Spanish Language (CCIE) est un
organisme à but non lucratif créé dans le but d’encourager et de promouvoir
la connaissance et l’appréciation mutuelles des contributions artistiques des
personnes d’origine latino-canadienne et des Canadiens et Canadiennes de
diverses origines.
Lors de la préparation de son Festival annuel des Mots et des Images, la CCIE
travaille en étroite collaboration avec des établissements d’enseignement
supérieur, avec les consulats et les ambassades de divers pays hispanophones
ainsi qu’avec de nombreux particuliers et de nombreuses entreprises du secteur
privé ainsi que du secteur public.
Aperçu historique
La CCIE a été créée en 1992, dans le cadre des commémorations ayant eu

entièrement de bénévoles. Lors du Festival des Images et des Mots, la CCIE
travaille en étroite collaboration avec des établissements d’études supérieures
comme l’Université de Toronto, l’Université Polytechnique de Ryerson et le
Collège Glendon de l’Université York, où la CCIE est actuellement basée. De plus,
la CCIE travaille également en étroite collaboration avec les consulats des pays
hispanophones à Toronto, le programme d’études supérieures en traduction de
Glendon et plusieurs associations de langue espagnole dans la communauté.
Le Festival des Images et des Mots est une véritable fête qui unit les langues
et les cultures. Celles et ceux qui aiment la bonne littérature et qui savent
l’apprécier se régalent de bonnes adaptations des classiques, ainsi que de
traductions d’oeuvres d’auteurs hispanophones contemporains, en anglais ou
en français. Réciproquement, les hispanophones peuvent se familiariser avec la
production littéraire de Canadiens d’autres origines grâce à des traductions en
espagnol de leurs oeuvres.
