For 23 years, Bishop Terry Steib has served as a dedicated, caring
leader and shepherd to the clergy, parishioners, and community at
large within the Catholic Diocese of Memphis. All parishioners from
throughout the Diocese are invited to visit with Bishop Steib at a
Reception to be held in honor of Bishop Terry Steib on
OCTOBER 9, from, 3-6pm, at St. Benedict at Auburndale

LECTURAS DE HOY
Primera Lectura: Amos 6, 1. 4-7
Segunda Lectura: 1 Timoteo 6, 11-16
Evangelio: Lucas 16, 19-31
What most absorbs your attention, and heart? Jesus paints a
dramatic scene of contrasts - riches and poverty, heaven and hell,
compassion and indifference. We also see an abrupt reversal of
fortune. Lazarus was not only poor, but incapacitated. The rich man
treated the beggar with contempt and indifference, until he found his
fortunes reversed! Despite a life of misfortune and suffering, Lazarus
did not lose hope in God. His eyes were set on a treasure stored up
for him in Heaven. The rich man, however, could not see beyond his
material treasure. He was too absorbed in what he had to notice
the needs of those around him. He lost sight of God and of heaven
because he was preoccupied with seeking happiness in material
things. He served wealth rather than God. In the end the rich man
became a beggar! Do you know the joy and freedom of possessing
God as your treasure? And is your hope securely fixed in Heaven?
"Lord, increase my hunger for You. Give me a generous heart that I
may freely share with others the treasure You have given to me."
¿Que es lo que más absorbe su atención y corazón? Jesús pinta una
escena dramática de contrastes - la riqueza y pobreza, cielo y infierno,
la compasión y indiferencia. También vemos una reversión abrupta de
fortuna. Lázaro no sólo era pobre, pero incapacitado. ¡El hombre rico
trató al mendigo con desprecio y indiferencia, hasta que el rol se
invertido! A pesar de una vida desafortunada y sufrimiento, Lázaro
no perdió la esperanza en Dios. Sus ojos se fijaron en un tesoro
guardado para él en el Cielo. El hombre rico no podía ver más allá de
su tesoro material. Le importaba mas lo que él tenía que notar las
necesidades de los demás. Perdió la noción de Dios y el cielo porque
él estaba buscando la felicidad en las cosas materiales. Él serbia a la
riqueza en lugar de Dios. ¡Al final, el hombre rico se convirtió en un
mendigo! ¿Conoces la alegría y la libertad de poseer a Dios como tu
tesoro? Y tu esperanza está fijada de forma segura en el Cielo?
"Señor, aumenta mi hambre de Ti. Dame un corazón generoso para
poder compartir libremente con otros los tesoros que me has dado."
