The school building opens
at 7:45 a.m.
For your
child’s safety, students are
not to be dropped off before 7:45 a.m. The school
day ends at 3:20 p.m.
All transportation changes
must to be made in writing.
You may send a note, email
or fax any change in your
child’s transportation.
Phone calls will not be accepted. Without written
documentation, your child’s
transportations will remain
the same.

Greetings Gators! We want to start
by congratulating Mr. Ovalles, 4th
grade Bilingual Teacher for being
awarded a $5,000 grant from “Fund
for Teachers.” He will spend some
time this summer in Finland studying
their education system. We are also
proud of Alec Garcia for his participation in the Houston area Spelling
Bee. It was televised last Saturday
on PBS and he represented us well.
We are in high testing gear this
spring. Being on time and present
during these weeks before testing
critical. We thank you for all you do
for helping our Gators be successful.

We are raising funds for “Pennies
for Patients”, April 2-20. Please
help our school raise money to
help fight childhood cancers. We
accept bills, checks, cash, and
coins. Every penny helps.

What’s Happening in the SWAMP?
In Language Arts, our First Grade Gators are continuing to learn the
features of media literacy. In Writer’s Workshop students are revisiting writing small moments. In Social Studies, students will interpret
signs and symbols that they see around them and their purpose. In
Math will begin a new unit, Relationships. Students will identify different representations for a nickel, dime, quarter and half-dollar. In
Science, students will be Investigating Organisms and Environments.
Second grade is identifying different genres of stories in Language
Arts. We re also identifying the topic, main idea and details of an
expository text. In Math, we are relating time to our everyday lives
using seconds and minutes. We are learning how to be responsible
when we make mistakes in Social Studies. In Science, we are identifying characteristics of living organisms and their environments.
Third graders are working, working, working! Students are learning
about living systems and adaptations in science. In social studies, we
are learning about economics and free enterprise. In math and reading we are reviewing in preparation for the upcoming STAAR test!
Our gators will be ready to show their skills in a few weeks!
The fourth grade gators will be focusing over the next two weeks on
practicing the reading and math skills they have learned throughout
the year. In math, students will be applying their knowledge to solving word problems that relate to real life situations while in language
arts they will be analyzing literature across different genres.
The fifth graders are working for success on the Science STAAR
test. We are currently working on Science in all subjects. Please
review with your gator each day so that they can finish their testing
off strong.
Nurses Station:
School-age kids need 10 to 12 hours of
sleep a night. Lack of sleep can cause irritable or hyper types of behavior and may
make it difficult for kids to pay attention in
school. It is important to have a consistent
bedtime, especially on school nights. Be sure
to leave enough time before bed to allow
your child to unwind before lights out.

¡Bienvenidos a la Elemental Garrett! ¡Hogar de los Gators!
¡Saludos Gators! Queremos comenzar felicitando a Mr. Ovalles, Maestro
Bilingüe de 4to grado por haber ganado una subvención por $5,000 de
“Fund for Teachers.” El pasará un
tiempo este verano en Finlandia estudiando el sistema educativo de allá.
También estamos orgullosos de Alec

Esta primavera estamos enfocados a
los exámenes. Llegar a tiempo y estar
presente durante estas semanas antes

¿Qué está pasando en el Pantano?
En Artes de Lenguaje, nuestros Gators de Primer Grado, continúan
aprendiendo las características de la literatura de los medios. En el
Taller de Escritores, los estudiantes vuelven a revisar escritos. En
Estudios Sociales, interpretarán señales y símbolos que ven a su alrededor y sus propósitos. En Matemáticas, comenzarán una unidad,
Relaciones. Identificarán diferentes representaciones para las monedas de cinco, diez, veinticinco y cincuenta centavos. En Ciencias,
investigarán Organismos y Ambientes.
Segundo grado está identificando géneros de historias en Artes de
Lenguaje, También estamos identificando el tema, idea principal y
detalles de un texto expositivo. En Matemáticas, estamos relacionando la hora con nuestras actividades diarias usando segundos y
minutos. En Estudios Sociales, estamos aprendiendo a cómo ser
responsables cuando cometemos errores. En Ciencias, estamos
identificando las características de los organismos vivientes y sus
ambientes.
¡Los de tercer grado están trabajando, trabajando, trabajando! En
Ciencias, los estudiantes están aprendiendo acerca de los sistemas
vivientes y las adaptaciones. En estudios sociales, estamos aprendiendo acerca de economía y libre empresa. En matemáticas y lectura
estamos repasando para prepararnos para los exámenes STAAR.
Nuestros Gators estarán listos para demostrar sus habilidades en
unas pocas semanas.
Los Gators de cuarto grado durante las próximas dos semanas se
enfocarán en practicar las habilidades de lectura y matemáticas que
han aprendido durante todo el año. En matemáticas, aplicarán sus
conocimientos para resolver problemas relacionados a situaciones
de la vida diaria y en artes de lenguaje analizarán literatura en varios
géneros.
Los de quinto grado están trabajando para tener éxito en el examen
STAAR Ciencias. Actualmente estamos incorporando Ciencias en
todas las materias. Por favor repase cada día con su gator para que
pueda salir bien en su examen.
Oficina de la Enfermera:
Los niños de edad escolar necesitan de 10
a 12 horas de sueño cada noche. La falta
de sueño puede causar conducta irritable o
tipo híper y hacer difícil que los niños pongan atención en clases. Es importante tener
una hora consistente para ir a dormir ,
especialmente entre semana. Asegúrese de darle suficiente tiempo a
su hijo para relajarse antes de la hora de dormir.
