APRIL 10, 2016
SOCIAL CONCERNS
The Poor Box for the month of April is for three
pregnancy centers in Montgomery County: Centro
Tepeyac in Silver Spring, Rockville Pregnancy Center,
and Shady Grove Pregnancy Center. These Centers
provide assistance needed by women and their families
who are confronted with the concerns and difficulties
regarding the arrival of a new child.
Become a mentor to someone returning to the
community from incarceration. Studies show that a
mentor who provides encouragement and support makes
all the difference in preventing recidivism. We will train
you and provide ongoing support, but you already know
what to do: be kind, be compassionate, be caring, be
optimistic, be reliable. Mentors are at least 25 years
old and commit for an hour a week for a year. You will
make a BIG difference in someone’s life. Start now!

Minutes of the Finance Council Meeting
of March 24, 2016
Following the opening prayer, the pastor noted that all
of the sanctuary upgrades are nearly completed. Most
of the $26,000 expense was contributed by generous
parishioners and private donors, including a family
foundation. The new crucifix will be hung shortly. A
contract has been signed to repair the gutters which
were damaged during the harsh winter. Insurance
proceeds combined with designated offerings from our
church community, minimize out-of-pocket money.
Preparations for the Steve & Kate Summer Camp are
complete and St. Bart's is projected to net $30,000 for
the nine week program. Work on the HVAC final upgrade
for the Church and School and installation begins this
summer. The School Gala was well attended and netted
$53,000. The Committee reviewed the February monthend parish budget; school and church expenditures have
been well managed while revenues are up about 2% year
to date. The working capital line of credit and the
parish's long-term term credit account have been
consolidated with Capital One Bank. The rainy day fund
is adequate relative to ongoing operations. To better
manage cash flow, however, there will a concerted
effort to increase participation in the Faith Direct
Program. Currently 20% of active parishioners are
enrolled. The 8:00 pm Mass attendance has grown
reaching 350 on Palm Sunday. While the parish is
committed to retaining the Christian Contemporary
music program, the Finance Council explored ways to
partially offset the annual professional band cost of
$52,000. Periodic appeals from the ambo will encourage
the Sunday evening attendees to increase their
offertory efforts. The Finance Council subgroup
reported on the Five Year Strategic Plan. And finally,
the pastor noted that Fr. Tim will spend a month in
Honduras this summer to improve his Spanish language
skills to better meet our parish needs. We wish him well.
The next Finance Council meeting is scheduled for May
17th at 7:00 am in the rectory.
***
The Faith and Fiction Book Group will meet on Sunday, May
1, at 1:30 pm in the parish meeting room to discuss Graham
Greene's 1951 classic novel The End of the Affair. All are
welcome.
2016 Cardinal’s Appeal Update
The monthly statements for the Cardinal’s Appeal pledges have
been mailed. It is important that these pledges are paid so
that our parish will reach and exceed our goal. Please be sure
to make your pledge payment prior to the end of the month so
that you will receive credit for it on your statement next
month.

veces: Pedro ¿me amas?
vidas.
