The Resurrected Christ is our hope
Our world is full of persons suffering in body and
spirit, even as the daily news is full of stories of brutal crimes which often take place within homes, and
large-scale armed conflicts which cause indescribable suffering to entire peoples. The risen Christ
points out paths of hope to beloved Syria, a country
torn by a lengthy conflict, with its sad wake of destruction, death, contempt for humanitarian law
and the breakdown of civil concord. To the power of the risen Lord we entrust the talks now in course, that good will and the cooperation of all will
bear fruit in peace and initiate the building of a fraternal society respectful
of the dignity and rights of each citizen. May the message of life, proclaimed
by the Angel beside the overturned stone of the tomb, overcome hardened
hearts and promote a fruitful encounter of peoples and cultures in other areas of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, particularly in Iraq, Yemen
and Libya. May the image of the new man, shining on the face of Christ, favour concord between Israelis and Palestinians in the Holy Land, as well as
patience, openness and daily commitment to laying the foundations of a just
and lasting peace through direct and sincere negotiations. May the Lord of
life also accompany efforts to attain a definitive solution to the war in
Ukraine, inspiring and sustaining initiatives of humanitarian aid, including
the liberation of those who are detained.
Jesus invites us to discover the power of the Spirit in our lives through an
awareness of “the Advocate” supporting us each day. Jesus encourages us in
the same kind of intimate relationship he has with the Father. The startling
idea of this close, personal conversation one might have with a parent, models for us how we can speak to him. If we feel tongue-tied or don't know
where to begin, that is exactly the place to start. Each morning as we awaken, we can speak from our hearts. Loving Jesus, I'm not sure how to do this.
I can feel in my heart an emptiness or longing for something deeper in my
relationship, but I don't always know where to begin. Help me to open my
heart to you this day, and to carry with me the sense of how much you love
me and how much you want this kind of personal relationship with me. Let
me feel your Spirit present with me as I face the challenges of the day and
let me live my life this day as your follower, in the peace of your love. It is a
simple prayer and one that we can remember as we go about our day, head
to a meeting, stand in the kitchen or fold laundry. It is not complicated to
have a closer relationship with God but it takes focus. And always, we can
end our day with a simple prayer of thanks for the many blessings of the
day.

Did You Know?
Preventing child sexual abuse is a partnership. It
requires education, training, and action from parents, other adults, organizations, and children. As
adults, we need to learn to recognize other adults
who are a risk to kids – ours and the others in the community.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, which gives us all an
opportunity to learn more about what the Archdiocese of Los
Angeles is doing to prevent child sexual abuse from happening. For more information about the VIRTUS® Child Abuse Prevention Programs for Adults and Children contact [email protected]
