HOME CHEMICAL COLLECTION
The City of Irving is making it even
easier for residents to dispose of
household hazardous waste on Feb. 28.
Items accepted include pool chemicals,
cleaners and polishes, craft and hobby
supplies, chemical products for home
use, home repair products, lawn and
garden chemicals, automotive fluids and
fluorescent light bulbs. Vouchers are
required. To obtain a voucher, call (972)
721-8059.
COUNCIL CANDIDATE PACKETS
Residents who are interested in becoming
a candidate for a City Council position
can pick up a candidate packet beginning
Jan. 12 from the City Secretary’s Office at
City Hall, 825 W. Irving Blvd. Packets also
will be available at cityofirving.org.
voting dates are Monday, April 27 through
Tuesday, May 5. A district map and a
list of polling locations are available at

IRVING CITIZEN
POLICE ACADEMY
Those who live or work in Irving and
want to learn about what police officers
do are invited to apply for the Irving
Citizen Police Academy. The free series
of 14 classes classroom and “hands on”
instruction, with each session facilitated by
department staff from the particular area
of expertise. Topics covered include: Officer
Selection and Training process, Police
Communications, Criminal Investigations,
Domestic Violence, Gang Unit, Narcotics
Investigations, Tactical Operations,
Defensive Tactics, Firearms Training and
more. Instruction also includes facility tours
and the opportunity to participate in the
patrol “ride-along” program.
Spanish session begins Feb. 2 and English
session begins Feb. 3. The Spanish classes
will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Mondays and
English classes from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays.
Two classes will be held on Saturdays.

This year, at large council district Place 8
and single member district council Places
4 and 6 will be elected in the general
election to be held on May 9. Place 8 is an
at-large position and candidates running
for Place 8 may reside anywhere within
the Irving city limits. Places 4 and 6 are
single-member districts; to qualify to run,
candidates must be a resident of the city
and have lived in their respective district
for at least 12 months immediately prior to
Election Day.
The 30-day filing period is Wednesday,
