Buque Off Shore “North Sea Giant” Equipado con Voith Schneider Propeller
El North Sea Giant es uno de los más grandes y potentes buques de Off Shore.
Este tipo de buque navega y actúa en campos petroleros marinos particularmente en el abastecimiento, soporte,
mantenimiento y reparación de estas plataformas e instalaciones de oleoductos y/o gasoductos en alta mar,
transportan grandes pesos e intervienen con su personal en diversas operaciones marinas, submarinas y
robotizadas, incluso hasta en muy grandes profundidades.
Entre las múltiples características de diseño y despliegue de tecnología podemos destacar la gran potencia,
capacidad de transporte en cubiertas, velocidad y tracción, gran capacidad de maniobra (incluso hasta girar sobre sí
mismos y producir un gran empuje en todas direcciones), visión panorámica en el puente de mando, helipuertos,
sistema de lucha contra incendios (incluyendo fuegos externos), medios de izado mecánicos y tanques de
almacenamiento de diversos productos.
Pueden realizar navegaciones de diverso tipo aún bajo condiciones meteorológicas adversas; poseen sensores de
todo tipo, sistemas de posicionamiento dinámico que permiten al buque permanecer quieto en una posición con la
ayuda de referencias como ser satelitales, láser e hipoacústicas especialmente utilizadas en operaciones de buceo y
ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle, submarinos robots).
Algunas de las características especiales del North Sea Giant son sus 5 Propulsores Voith Schneider Propeller, que
dan al buque una extraordinaria capacidad de maniobrabilidad, posicionamiento y bajos consumos de combustible
en Posicionamiento Dinámico (DP) y su capacidad de reducir el balanceo mediante el sistema Voith Roll Stabilization
(VRS).
Los Propulsores aseguran un alto grado de eficiencia y bajo consumo de combustible lo cual representa una ventaja
adicional, aún cuando existan condiciones adversas de clima y corrientes.
La propulsión Voith Schneider tiene un tiempo de respuesta muy rápido de babor a estribor, debido a su especial
construcción, con un máximo del orden de los 2 segundos. Esta característica permite que las fuerzas activas
ejercidas por el propulsor se opongan al movimiento de balance del buque. El balance del barco se llega a reducir en
muchos casos hasta un 90 %.
El Buque también cuenta con 3 departamentos de máquinas/sistemas de potencia separados, lo que le permite a la
embarcación mantener su capacidad de DP 3 Posicionamiento Dinámico 3) con un departamento fuera de servicio.
Esto le permite tener una variante extendida de la clase AUT-RO ya que si funcionara mal un sistema de propulsión,
la nave todavía funcionará con la clase de AUT-RO intacta, es decir, con un sistema redundante de DP, un respaldo
independiente del sistema de la palanca de mando y un centro de control adicional de emergencia delDP,
cumpliendo con las normas de IMO para buques con Posicionamiento Dinámico.
El buque cumple con los requerimientos de ruido y vibraciones de la Comfort Class de DNV con rating mínimo
3,COMF-V(3). Los requisitos para límites del ruido y de la vibración a bordo se dividen en tres grupos (1, 2 y 3)
dependiendo del nivel de la comodidad alcanzado. Donde 1 representa el del más alto nivel de la comodidad y 3
representa un nivel aceptable de la comodidad.
El buque se ha construido conforme la clasificación DNV Clean. La clase de Diseño Limpio estipula los requisitos para
controlar y limitar emisiones y descargas operacionales.
Estos requisitos cubren los aspectos ambientales más importantes:
· Dirección de las aguas residuales y de la basura
· Dirección del agua del lastre
· Dirección del fuel-oil
· Anti-incrustante ambientalmente amistoso
· Emisiones de la combustión de los motores (NOx y SOx)
· Uso de refrigerantes
· Inventario verde de pasaporte para reciclar la nave
El buque dispone de un pequeño submarino (ROV), capaz de realizar cualquier tipo de trabajo submarino.
Fue galardonado como “Buque del año 2012”, por el Grupo editorial Off Shore Support Journal por “su diseño
innovador, su eficiencia operativa y por representar el punto de referencia de la industria”.
El astillero Metalships and Docks competía con grandes constructores navales de todo el mundo como el
astillero chino Coscos Nantong Ship-yard, con el buque MPI Adventure, el coreano Samsung con el Saipem
FGS y el holandés Damen con el Esnaad 711.
