Classify plants
At grocery stores, people sort food into
groups. This helps shoppers find the right
food. Scientists classify living things, such
as plants, in a similar way. Scientists
classify plants by sorting them into
groups. This helps us identify plants.
You can classify plants into groups by color, size,
and shape. You can classify plants by how they
reproduce, or produce offspring. You can also
classify plants by their flowers or seeds.
Plants that produce flowers are classified as
flowering plants. Plants that do not grow
flowers to make seeds, are classified as
nonflowering plants.
