Fall is upon us! We’ve got our year off to a great start. The Gold Bar staff has been hard at work planning for improvement. As we move forward, we will be focusing our improvement efforts around three areas: Math, differentiating learning experiences to meet the needs of all of our students, and improving behavior so that all students feel safe and all students can learn. This has really felt like a group effort and we will be reaching out to you to help us find ways to support your kids as well. Fall also means our first round of conferences are right around the corner. Our relationship with families is such an important part of helping children succeed. Please see the attached document regarding parent-teacher conferences for ideas on how to make this a great conversation about how we can work together to help your child succeed. We need your help making sure that we get all of our students home safely at the end of the day. I’ve noticed family members waiting outside classrooms. Please remember to wait in the foyer on the carpet off to the side so that our teachers can get our kids out the door. Extra congestion in the hallways can create confusion for teachers and kids. Thank you for helping us make our dismissal process safe and effective! We’ve received many compliments on it from families, district employees, and guests. I also wanted to thank all of you for coming to our Open House. Seeing the front lawn and the hallways packed with families is very encouraging and tells me that you feel welcome here. I want to make sure you continue to feel that way. If you have suggestions for how we can improve this, don’t hesitate to let me know. Our attendance was up 10% from last year! If you are interested in spending more time here at Gold Bar, please notify Michelle in the office and we’ll set up another volunteer training. Thank you, Jake Rodgers Principal GOLD BAR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 419 Lewis Ave, Gold Bar WA 98251-0670 Office: (360) 793-9840 Fax: (360) 793-4158 www.sultan.k12.wa.us/ges/ges.cfm?id=109 Counselor’s Corner - October 2015 I am excited to announce that starting Friday, October 8, we will have Natural Leaders in the building on Fridays before and after school. Natural Leaders are parent volunteers who speak both English and Spanish. Monica Avalos, Julia Haney, and Estrella Reyes will be volunteering in the office on Fridays from 8:45-9:30 a.m. and 1:45-2:30 p.m. This would be an excellent time for Spanish speaking parents to come in with any questions they may have. On another note, I was able to start Second Step lessons with our students last week and I had a great time being in each class! We have been learning about respect and practicing listening and learning skills. Our older students have also been learning about empathy. Some of the lessons include a Home Link that we will send home for an opportunity for your child to share with you about what he or she is learning in Second Step. Please feel free to contact me at any time during the school year if you would like to discuss your child’s needs, have concerns, or need further resources. Katie Douglas 360-793-9841 ext.
