YO SOY LA VID,
USTEDES LOS SARMIENTOS...
I
nterconnectivity is one of the buzz
words of our times, affirming the
need to recognize our
connectedness not only with each other
but also with all life forms on this planet
and beyond. Interconnectivity is not only
a physical reality but a spiritual one. A
biblical basis for this view is found in
today’s Gospel: “I am the vine...Whoever remains in me
and I in him will bear much fruit” (John 15:5). Perhaps the
image of the Father walking around with pruning shears is
not attractive, but it points to the central dynamic of our
faith: our dying and rising to new life in Christ. God desires
to prune what is dead in us and whatever brings death—
be it an attitude, a desire, a habit. While Jesus is the true
vine, there are also branches that serve to interconnect.
Take Barnabas in Acts. Without him, would Paul have
been connected as quickly to the Christian community?
Where others saw grounds for distrust, Barnabas
recognized God at work and decided to take a risk and
trust in God’s judgment. The result was a collaboration
that brought about the first missionary journey of Paul.

La interconexión no es sólo una realidad
física sino también espiritual. El Evangelio
de hoy nos presenta una base bíblica para este punto de vista
"Yo soy la vid ... el que permanece en mí y yo en él, ése da fruto
abundante" (Juan 15:5). Tal vez la imagen del Padre caminando
con unas tijeras de podar no es atractiva, pero señala hacia la
dinámica central de nuestra fe: nuestra muerte y resurrección a
una vida en Cristo. Dios desea podar lo que está muerto en
nosotros y lo que atrae la muerte—una actitud, un deseo, o un
hábito. Mientras que Jesús es la vid verdadera, también hay
ramas que sirven para interconectar. Tome como ejemplo a
Bernabé en el libro de los Hechos. Sin él, ¿Pablo se habría
conectado tan rápidamente a la comunidad cristiana? Donde
otros veían motivos de desconfianza, Bernabé reconoció a Dios
en el trabajo y decidió tomar un riesgo y confiar en el juicio de
Dios. El resultado fue una colaboración que provocó el primer
viaje misionero de Pablo.

Do your best at your chosen profession. Be honest and
faithful. Resolve to find a class or other forum that will
strengthen your knowledge and expertise. Bring a
prayerful attitude to your job.

FLEA MARKET
The annual Flea Market to benefit the Food Pantry at St.
Francis is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May
14, 15 and 16, 2015. The Flea Market will be open Thursday
12:00 noon to 5:00pm; Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm; and
Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please go through your
homes, closets, garages and sheds and leave your donated
items at the storage container located in the Church parking
lot any time daily between 9:00am and 5:00pm. Thank you
for your generosity!
GIFT STORE
Mother’s Day will be here soon! Are you looking for
something unique? Stop by and check out the new and oh,
so cute, Heavenly Woods collection. If you’re looking for
something more traditional, we have Birthstone Angels and
the popular Willow Tree figurines. Also, don’t forget that the
First Holy Communion is May 9th and gifts are on sale 10%
off until May 10th. Shopping at the Gift Store is just another
way you can support your parish.

ASSISTANCE NEEDED FOR CCW
The CCW knits & crochets hats and scarfs for Bags of Hope,
www.bohcfl.info/and for our pantry. They are given out
when the weather turns cold. We also make baby items for
Florida Hospital and prayer shawls for the St. Francis Prayer
Shawl Ministry. We are asking for yarn donations to help
defray the cost for making these items. Full or partial skeins
and any type of yarn is appreciated. The yarn can be
dropped off at the church when you come to Mass or
dropped off at the parish office. Last year, the CCW made
1,287 such items. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
MERCADO DE PULGAS
El Mercado de Pulgas anual a beneficio de la Despensa de
Alimentos de San Francisco de Asís está programado para el
jueves, viernes y sábado, 14, 15 y 16 de mayo del 2015. El
mercado de pulgas estará abierto el jueves desde las 12:00
del mediodía hasta las 5:00pm; viernes de 9:00am a 5:00pm;
y el sábado de 9:00am a 1:00pm. Ya estamos listos para
recibir sus donaciones. Deposite sus artículos en el
contenedor en el estacionamiento de la iglesia, este está
abierto todos los días de 9:00am a 5:00pm.

¡El Día de las Madres estará aquí muy pronto! ¿Está buscando
algo único? Pase por la tiendita parroquial para ver la
colección “Heavenly Woods”. O, si usted está buscando algo
más tradicional, tenemos la colección de “Birthstone Angels”
y las populares figuras de “Willow Tree”. Además, no olvide
que la Primera Comunión es el 9 de mayo y los regalitos están
en venta con un 10% de descuento hasta el 10 de mayo.

LAS SEÑORAS DEL CCW NECESITAN SU AYUDA
Las señoras de CCW tejen gorras y bufandas para “Bags of
Hope”, www.bohcfl.info/ y para nuestra despensa. Estos son
repartidos cuando el clima se vuelve frío. Ellas también hacen
artículos para bebés en el Florida Hospital y chales de oración
para el Ministerio de Chales de Oración de nuestra parroquia.
Ellas necesitan donaciones de hilo para ayudar a sufragar el
costo de hacer estos artículos. Madejas completas y parciales
y de cualquier tipo de hilo es apreciado. Usted puede dejar el
hilo en la iglesia cuando venga a Misa o dejarlo en la Oficina
Parroquial. El año pasado, CCW hizo 1,287 artículos.
