Cassandra Lin is a young Asian-American environmentalist, philanthropist, and social entrepreneur most popular
for founding Project T.G.I.F. (Turn Grease Into Fuel),
an organization that collects grease from restaurants and
other areas and hands it over to recycling centers so that it
can be processed and turned into fuel that is given to the
poorer members of the community.
Since its inception, Project T.G.I.F. has now grown
into a network of 113 restaurants that enable the foundation to collect over 4,000 gallons of grease per month.

For Shree, there is no end to learning. She has been participating in science fairs since her first project to her recent
project on drug resistance in ovarian cancer. This awe led
to her interest in biology and the study of life, and to her
involvement in cancer research at age 15.
Her research project involved the study of a particular protein, AMP kinase, of interest in cancer cells.
Through tests on inhibiting this protein’s activity, her research proposed a new way to treat resistant patients when
they no longer respond to the chemotherapy drug. For the
over 240,000 patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer, this
research will reduce the recurrence rates in patients treated
with particular chemotherapy drugs.
Shree was honored as the Grand Prize winner of
the Google Global Science Fair in 2011. She is a recipient
of the GDIAAC Youth Achievement Award given by the
Indian Minister of Commerce and was named one of Glamour Magazine’s 21 Amazing Women of the Year in 2011.
As a current student at Harvard (Class of 2016),

When Richard Turere, a child from a Maasai community
in Kenya (south of Nairobi National Park), was nine years
old he received an important commission of his father:
care for cattle and prevent that lions eat his animals. The
mission was not easy because the cats attacks were increasing. But Richard had an idea that changed everything. He
noted that the lions away from his farm when they saw
someone with a flashlight and thought there was a solution
to the problem.
So Richard invented a system of flashing lights, called
“Lion Lights” with LED bulbs powered by a solar panel.
His invention worked, stopped lions attacking livestock
and could amicably resolve the relationship of humans
with wild animals for fight of the cattle, sharing with neighbors this simple but important invention.
Since his invention, Richard won a scholarship to the
Brookhouse School, being recognized as an enterprising
child with high sense of social and environmental, and currently is an international speaker.

Kasdin es profesor de la Universidad de Princeton en Ingeniería Mecánica y Aeroespacial y Vicedecano de Ingeniería. El prof. Kasdin recibió su licenciatura en Ciencias

Kasdin has pioneered and expert in
the use of pupil plane coronagraphs
(devices that block light in telescopes) for detecting and characterizing
exoplanets (planets found beyond
solar system). Princeton led the astrophysics mission concept study for
THEIA, a 4-meter telescope with an
external occulter (disk used to block
the view of a bright object, as with
the shadow of a total solar eclipse) for
exoplanet characterization. Kasdin
has led several technology studies for
NASA analyzing both coronagraphs
and external occulters.
He currently sits on the Science Definition Team for the AFTA/WFIRST
mission and the Science and Technology Definition Team for a small scale
exoplanet imaging mission using an
external occulter.
Prof. Kasdin is also PI for CHARIS (Coronagraphic High
Angular Resolution Imaging Spectrograph), another device to analyze the electromagnetic spectrum of light from
exoplanets and will be installed on the Subaru telescope at
Mauna Kea in Hawaii.

Although documenting challenging, and at times, horrific situations,
Giles captures the strength of those
who fight adversity rather than succumb. His photographs draw the
