Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Baptism of Our
Lord. This brings to an end
the season of Christmas. The Church
recalls Our Lord's second manifestation or epiphany which occurred
on the occasion of His baptism in the Jordan. Jesus descended into the River to sanctify its waters and to
give
them the power to beget sons of God. The event takes on the importance of a second creation in which the
entire Trinity intervenes. In the Eastern Church this feast is called Theophany because at the baptism of
Christ in the River Jordan God appeared in three persons. The baptism of John was a sort of sacramental preparatory for the Baptism of Christ. It moved men to sentiments of repentance and induced them to confess
their sins. Christ did not need the baptism of John. Although He appeared in the "substance of our flesh" and
was recognized "outwardly like unto ourselves", He was absolutely sinless and impeccable. He conferred
upon the water the power of the true Baptism which would remove all the sins of the world: "Behold the
Lamb of God, behold Him Who takes away the sin of the world".Many of the incidents which accompanied
Christ's baptism are symbolical of what happened at our Baptism. At Christ's baptism the Holy Spirit descended upon Him; at our Baptism the Trinity took its abode in our soul. At His baptism Christ was proclaimed the "Beloved Son" of the Father; at our Baptism we become the adopted sons of God. At Christ's
baptism the heavens were opened; at our Baptism heaven was opened to us. At His baptism Jesus prayed;
As a gift from God, human life is sacred from conception to natural death.
The right to life is the first and most fundamental principle of human rights
that leads Catholics to actively work for a world of greater respect
for human life and greater commitment to justice and peace.

The second annual OneLife LA event, sponsored by the Los Angeles Archdiocese, invites all people to join in
declaring a commitment to valuing and protec ng all human life, par cularly the most vulnerable in our
community.
The event will begin with a walk up Temple Street, across Grand Avenue and down 1st Street,
culmina ng in a family-friendly picnic with music, speakers, entertainment, food trucks, and exhibits from
community organiza ons.
This year's keynote speaker will be Nick Vujicic who will share his story about being born without limbs, his
strength and passion for life, and achieving victory over his struggles through faith. “If God can use a man
without arms and legs to be his hands and feet, then he will certainly use any willing heart,” said Vujicic. His
deep-rooted faith helped him see his disability as a blessing and formed the nonprofit organiza on Life
Without Limbs when he was only 17 years old.
Other speakers include: Patricia Heaton, an Emmy award winning actress of Everybody Loves Raymond and
currently starring in the ABC sitcom, The Middle; Lianna Rebolledo, founder of the organiza on, Loving Life,
which offers support and preven on programs to people in risk of
violence; David Henrie, an actor recognized for playing the lead role in Wizards of Waverly Place and as Larry in That’s So Raven.
Danny Jacobs, an actor best known for being the voice behind King Julian in the movie
Madagascar and its sequels. Danny Jacobs and Lianna Rebolledo will co-emcee the OneLife LA event.
Remember to bring your water bo les and hats to OneLife LA! No outside chairs or tables of any kind are
allowed in the park, so be sure to bring your picnic blankets, too! Handicapped sea ng is available.

Monitor the sites that they visit and ask questions about who they talk to and what information

Anon: Please pray for my husband and I to be blessed with a healthy baby.
We have been married for 6 years and having difficulty conceiving. I know
God has the perfect time for us and I pray He gives us the perseverance and
faith we need to continue believing in Him and surrendering to Him. Amen.

blessed with a child.
Anon. For my niece, Aimee who is expecting her first child. St. Gerard please
intervene for a safe pregnancy and healthy baby. She has had two miscarriages
and she had her husband will be good parents. Keep mother and baby safe. I
know you will help. You helped my mother when she was carring me almost 60
years ago. Blessed St. Gerard hear my prayer and carry it to our Lord. Amen.
