STEWARDSHIP-TITHING
““Thus should one regard us: as servants of
Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.””
1 Corinthians 4:1
Stewardship Is A Way Of Life
Tithing is God’’s Plan For Giving
Tithing amounts will be printed in the
bulletin next week.
Thank you for the gifts that you offer each
week for the good of the Church.
A Tither’’s Comment
We are thankful for all the blessings from
God and feel honored to be giving him something
in return.
The season of Lent is most
appropriate for celebrating the
sacrament of penance. On Ash
Wednesday we heard the solemn
invitation ““Turn away from sin and be
faithful to the Gospel.”” We should
find time to be reconciled with God
and our neighbor and so be able to
celebrate the paschal mystery in the
Easter Triduum with renewed hearts.
Priests are available for confession in the
church on Saturdays from 4:00pm to 4:45pm and in
the chapel on Sundays from 4:45 to 5:15pm.
On Monday, April 18th priests will be available
for confessions in the church from 3:00pm to 7:00pm
and 7:30pm to 9:00pm and in the chapel from 3:00pm
to 4:30pm. The Lenten Communal Penance Service will
begin at 7:00pm in the church.
PASCHAL TRIDUUM
The Paschal Triduum (““The Three
Days””) is the heart of our liturgical year
and celebrates the heart of our faith, the
Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ: his life,
Passion, Death, and Resurrection. One
long feast, it goes from sundown,
beginning with the Evening Mass of the
Lord’’s Supper, through Good Friday, reaching its peak
in the Easter Vigil, and closing with Evening Prayer of
Easter Sunday. The Great Easter Vigil is the preeminent
liturgy of Easter.
TENEBRAE
Tenebrae, a Latin Word which means shadows,
is a Morning Prayer service celebrated at 9:00 am in
the church on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy
Saturday of Holy Week. The ceremony consists of
psalms that are chanted and scripture readings that are
taken from the Divine Office.
During the service there is the gradual
extinguishing of the candles on a triangular candle
stand. At the end of each psalm or canticle, one of the
15 candles is extinguished but the one at the top of the
triangle is left lighted.
Parishioners are encouraged to come to the
church to participate in this impressive ceremony which
highlights the solemnity of these three holy days.
BIBLE STUDY
Fr. Michael will offer Bible study on the Book of
Revelation ( Apocalypse) after the noon Mass at the
chapel on the following Saturdays: April 30, May 7, 28
& June 4th. The class will be a word–– for——word
examination of the text and its many levels of meaning.
CHURCH OF ST. STEPHEN / OUR LADY OF THE SCAPULAR
Dear Friends in the Lord:
Each year, on Good Friday, as we contemplate
the passion and death of Our Lord in Jerusalem, our
Holy Father asks that we take up a special collection in
all the parishes throughout the world to assist the Holy
Land Mission.
Specifically, this appeal enables the
Franciscan Friars, to whom the care of the holiest sites
of our faith have been entrusted, to continue to
maintain and serve the shrines that we all hold so very
sacred.
With this in mind, I ask that you be as
generous as you can possibly be in assisting the
Franciscan Friars in their crucial important work for the
Lord and His Church in the Holy Land.
With prayerful best wishes, for a holy Lent and a
glorious Easter I am,
Faithfully in Christ,
Most Reverend Timothy M. Dolan
Archbishop of New York
EASTER FLOWER MEMORIALS
Easter is a fitting time for us to
remember our loved ones who have died
in the Lord. One way to give thanks to
God for the blessings we received
through them would be to make a
donation toward the cost of our Easter
flowers in their memory. Envelopes are
available near the entrances of the church and chapel
for this purpose. The names we receive will be printed
in our parish bulletin on the weekend after Easter.
STEWARDSHIP APPEAL
As of today our parish has received over
$26,000 in pledges/gifts toward the 2011
Archdiocesan Stewardship Appeal. For this appeal to
be truly successful, we need the support of all our
parishioners. The appeal is a vital source of funding for
the programs and ministries that sustain the parishes
across our Archdiocese. Please be as generous as you
can. Our goal is $34,000.
OPERATION RICE BOWL
Operation Rice Bowl, sponsored by Catholic
Relief Services helps to support families around the
world to improve crop yields, to bring clean water to
communities, to provide basic health and nutrition
services. Please return the cardboard rice bowl with
your offering to the church or chapel.
HOST AND WINE
The Host and Wine for this week has been
offered in memory of Dionicia and Reinaldo Devia.

PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORD’’S PASSION
