Happy Mother`s Day! - Catedral de Cristo Rey
May 12, 2013
Ascension of the lord
Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
On this special weekend, we give thanks to God for all our mothers, mothersto-be and those who desire in their heart to be mothers. We also remember
fondly our mothers who have gone before us and we pray they experience
eternal joy with the Father.
On this Mother’s Day weekend, we are also mindful of our First Holy
Communicants who will receive the Lord for the very first time in such an
intimate way. I extend a warm welcome to those family members who are
here with us on this most important day. I would like to express my sincere
gratitude to the parents, the first teachers of our faith, and to the teachers and
catechists in our PSR program and our school community.
2699 Peachtree Road, NE
Atlanta, Georgia 30305

My prayer for our young people is that their first and last communion, and all
communions in between, may always be a source of strength and hope in their
pilgrimage journey here on earth.
God Bless You,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
A note of thanks
Dear Msgr. McNamee,
On behalf of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, I would like to offer sincere

Thank you for recognizing the value of our work and for believing in our
mission. We are grateful for your generosity and look forward to sharing our
successes with you during the year.
Happy Mother’s
Day!
Sincerely,
Larrie Del Martin, President and CEO,
Editor’s Note: Please join us on Sunday, May 19 for a special Mass in

Stewardship of Treasure
How shall I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” Psalm 116
The second reading today contains the somber warning that Jesus is coming soon and will
bring to each person the reward that his or her conduct deserves. Has my stewardship of the
blessings entrusted to me been such that I could respond joyfully, “Amen! Come, Lord
Jesus!”?
CCC Collection
The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) provides content the way you need
it, in podcasts for daily readings, on websites to connect with other faithful, and on
social media sites, and always with the New Evangelization in mind. Please be

half of your donations stay in our (arch) diocese to support our communications
needs. CCC is how the Good News gets around to you.

CKS Parents Reach 100% Participation!
Although CKS has traditionally enjoyed high levels of parental
support, for the first time in the history of the school, 100% of
the parent community contributed to this year’s Annual Fund
Campaign. This feat is practically unheard of in private and parochial school
communities, and is a testament to the overwhelming support Christ the King
School receives from its parents. Many thanks to Robyn & Mike Webb, the
2012-13 Annual Fund Campaign Chairs, and their team of tireless Grade Captains
who achieved this long, sought-after goal.
CKS Tour of Homes Rescheduled!

Sponsors Needed for RCIA/Rite of Reception
Parishioners are needed to sponsor adults inquiring into the faith and preparing to
come into full communion with the Church. A sponsor is not required to have a
degree in theology but rather a listening, active and open heart. Time and again
past sponsors have experienced the privilege of being part of someone’s spiritual
journey into the Church.
When: Sundays, June 9 – August 18, 10-11:45 am, Hyland Center Assembly
Room. Sacraments will be celebrated on Sunday, August 25 at the 7 pm Mass. For
additional information, email Aimee McDonald at [email protected]
RCIA Inquiry
Have you considered joining the Catholic church? Adults
interested in learning more about the Catholic faith, and about the
process of being initiated into the Catholic Church are invited to
attend Adult Inquiry on Monday, May 20 at 6:30 pm in Kenny
Hall.
FOCUS ON THE FAITH: The Sacrament of Confirmation
[When we are confirmed] we receive a special grace by which our faith is deepened and
strengthened, so that it will be strong enough not only for our own needs but for the needs
of others with whom we shall try to share it.
With the onset of adolescence a child begins to assume, progressively more and more, the
responsibilities of adulthood. He begins to see his place in the total family picture and in the
community at large.
Similarly, the confirmed Christian begins to see more clearly (or ought to) his responsibility to
Christ for his neighbor. He becomes deeply concerned (or ought to) with the welfare of Christ-in-the-world—which is the
Church—and the welfare of Christ-in-his-neighbor.
It is in this sense that Confirmation is a spiritual "growing up."
The confirmed Christian—whether we call him a spiritual soldier or a spiritual adult—goes forth joyfully in the fulfillment
of his vocation.
Strong in his faith and with an ardent love for souls which stems from his love for Christ, he feels a continual concern for
others. He feels a restless discontent unless he is doing something worthwhile for others—something to ease their burdens
in this life, and something to make more secure their promise of life eternal.
His words and his actions proclaim to those around him: "Christ lives, and He lives for you."
The grace to do this is the grace which Jesus promised to His Apostles (and to us) when He said: "You shall receive power
when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you shall be witnesses for Me. . . . even to the very ends of the earth" (Acts
1:8).

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND
CATHEDRAL STAFF
Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will
be met.
We are a very active parish with 4,300 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share
their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Our mission statement is to “Know, Love and Serve as Jesus
Did”. This is the mission of each disciple of Christ and, if
you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.
If you would like to know more about our parish, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org or
email us.
May we, this day and all the days of our lives, know, love
and serve as Jesus did.
Prayers and Blessings,
Msgr. Frank McNamee, Rector
