Prior to 1943, the Community Chest Committee of the
Corsicana Chamber of Commerce performed activities similar
to the traditional United Way collaborative efforts to meet
the social service needs of Navarro County. In 1943, the
Community Chest was constituted as a separate organization
for the following purposes:
1. To solicit and collect from individuals, corporations
associations, partnerships and others, funds for
benevolent, charitable, character building and
patriotic purposes;
2. To protect the public against unnecessary and costly
campaigns;
3. To distribute the collected moneys as the board of
directors may deem wise; and
4. To combine all drives into three major drives – Corsicana
Community Chest, Red Cross, and War Stamps and Bonds.

The Corsicana Community Chest funded 8 charities in 1943.
Tax exempt status was established with the IRS in 1960, and
remains in effect today. In September, 1972, the name was
changed to Navarro County United Fund, Texas, Inc., and the
group reorganized to meet the requirements of affiliation with
United Ways of America and Texas. United Way of Navarro
County currently supports 13 social service organizations.
These charitable organizations provide a wide range of
services to people of all ages in need of just about any
conceivable assistance.
Currently, United Way of Navarro County collaborates with
businesses, individuals and non-profit agencies by funding
agency programs that provide the most effective and efficient
means of meeting Navarro County’s most pressing health and
human service needs. United Way of Navarro County produces
an annual brochure designed to inform each potential donor
about who our Partner Agencies are, what type(s) of service(s)
each provides, and a contact number just in case they, or
someone they know, have a need one of our agencies can meet.
United Way of Navarro County is about people helping people
and neighbor helping neighbor. When you give to the United
Way, you are investing in our community, in our neighborhoods
and in our future.
